A Color Story: Tips for a Deeper, Richer Photo
We've invited another one of our favorite A Color Story users and all-around BOSS photographer, @ariellevey, to share her secrets on creating her signature photo style. Hey, guys! It's Arielle, and I'm back with more tips and tricks on how to elevate your photos using (my fave) A Color Story....
goodness yes! little stories and real life (which can be pretty and wonderful) and all the rest, too. that's where I am myself. it makes me feel random but I think that may be what I like most about real life in some ways, the curiosity and the randomness.
peace,

Less Information, More Wonderment
The other day Rose commented, “The curve around the corner with the writing is a joy Heather, I'm loving the ride.” A few others have noticed a shift as well, even suggesting my recent posts were “Hewittish.” After recovering from how uncomfortable I felt with the comparison, I appreciated the...
fellow low-stimulus person. I actually might be ultra low. running around in a car is like a nightmare to me. le sigh. Adulting is hard some days (or seasons). I will pass your coffee information along to my hubby. He is always trying to kick the habit.
Point of Return
Five days a week I leave the house to take Emily to classes. I’ve been doing this for a full year and I’m not sure why, but I can’t get used to it. I wonder what it would feel like to comfortably exist within the pace of this world. Hustle, bustle, get 'er done. I could really use that superpo...
fun. Here's my moment

{this moment}
. . . . . . . . . {this moment} ~ A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find...
i so enjoyed this class. still inspired by it.
The Best Idea
(Some photos from Hibernate, 2014.) On Friday morning, at 9am, I published the content for our last day of Hibernate. At 9:03 the phone rang and it was Adam calling to congratulate me on the completion of another workshop. I could not be more thankf...
great tips. i really like the concept of layers. that's a interesting way of looking at things.
the difference between goals and to-do list items.
I have been getting a few emails about the difference between setting goals and accomplishing the normal day-to-day activities. What do I consider what? How do I stay motivated to do the mundane or routine stuff over and over again? How do I tackle large goals? I thought it would be a fun topi...
current iphone user. i have a love/hate relationship with the thing. love being able to connect to folks and twitter.
i work at a computer and sometimes i am just over technology by the end of the day. the good thing is that i can't use my cell phone at work. it's just not allowed for anyone so it makes relationships at work so important. it has really showed me that we don't need them but they are nice.
i am working on putting it to bed in the evening and morning. it is a 2 steps forward and 5 backwards sort of thing. sometimes, i catch myself in iphone world and have to make myself step away. On the weekend, i usually forget about it a lot.
i don't think i would ever get rid of it. i like using the maps. i need detailed directions! and i really do enjoy connecting with people outside my small family. i have met a lot of interesting people through social media that have become my real life friends. so it is not all bad.
on another level, i think that the continual use to the point of distract has to do with social dis-ease. i am not judging as i suffer from that feeling from time to time and having a phone to connect to friends or interest does help it. however, it does not solve it.
i like the idea of being more mindful with usage. my contract has expired and i am not upgrading. i may slip into something a little simpler but i might not. i might just stay with it knowing that i can leave at any point.
Do You Ever Think About Breaking Up With Your iPhone?
I do. Actually, kind of a lot lately. It's been a fun ride with this wonderful little device, there is so much to love about having the web in the palm of your hand. But then sometimes it feels like the web is always in the palm of your hands. I know, it's about discipline. Comparatively, I ...
hi, i was wondering when the last day to sign up for whole foods kitchen is?
A Mug of Chai in the Morning (my new favorite thing)
There are so many reasons for me to be excited about having all new recipes in the upcoming session of Whole Food Kitchen. Topping the list, I can share some of my retired course recipes here on the blog! Don't worry, I won't flood this space, but how about just a few here and there? Goodness ...
love the hat! working on my first one these days. i can see it being an addiction.
warming
More photographs of me in handknits. Oh goodness. Alas, we are deep in the season. The season of down comforters, of seven of us living just as close to this woodstove as we can get. The season of chicken waterers in five gallon buckets thawing by the stove all day long, of mittens and ski...
congrats. i wish we got frankie, here.
tiny mention
I was pretty thrilled to find this little corner about my shop in the latest issue of Frankie. It's my favourite magazine, with its blend of craft and design, art and words. Hooray and thank you! How has the beginning of January been going for you? I've started on a work placement at a new...
what a lovely space. i love the wall coloring.
Closing a Chapter
It's finally over. Such a beautiful home it was. For us though, in the very wrong location. Yesterday, sometime around 3pm, our former home was sold and the keys were placed in the hands of the new owners. We are thrilled! It has been a long year living in one home and ...
You are not alone. it took me ages to learn to knit. i am still learning. i like to do simple things. i usually knit in the car to and from work and while watching t.v. i really enjoy yarns and don't have a favorite. just anything soft and pretty. debbie bliss yarns are nice and simple.
On Becoming a Knitter
It is finally happening friends! If you've followed along here for some time now, you probably know I've always loved yarn and the idea of knitting. I've even dabbled in it a bit here and there, but not to the point of great skill or confidence. Anything beyond a simple garter stitch confused ...
that's a great idea. i love getting the tree up. of course, ours is small because we live in a apartment. Everyone got it on the decorating, including the cats. They love leaves.
Starting a New Tradition
Hello there! Before I begin today's post I wanted to let you know about my new Facebook page (for this blog) and invite you to come along and "like" the page if you are so inclined. Aside from connecting to you in a more casual, spontaneous way than I can here - I'm having fun sharing tidbits ...
that's an amazing turnout. makes me want to pick up my needles.
recently completed
It may appear quite calm and normal on the surface of this here blog, but the reality of our day to day right now involves a whole lot of abnormal-for-us running around, as we're in the thick of performance season. Nutcracker, Boy Singers...oh goodness, these stage-loving boy...
hmm...think this deleted my last comment. it's been on of those crazy off-kilter weeks here. i, too have felt the need to be quiet and take it slow. anyway, love the photo of the drying herbs.
Baked Fruit for Breakfast (and life in general)
Perhaps it was the intense energy of the election, I'm sure in part it was the hurricane... I've felt quiet lately. My parents are here for a few weeks and we're all trying as best we can to keep our completely home-based work and school life as we are used to. Other than that we'll enjoy Than...
i love that table runner.
Fall Food
Lots of cooking, lots of eating: Pumpkin pancakes, patitsio (we split it into two dishes and froze one), the apple pie (from the freezer, which I thawed for about 20 minutes and then baked as normal and it came out great), chicken with morels (for a Sunday night dinner-party;...
hope all is well. stay safe.
as ready as we'll ever be
Good morning, friends! Oh, it's been a while... and I have a feeling it will be a while still before I properly write here again. Like many of you on the east coast we've been busy preparing for Hurricane Sandy's arrival. Goodness this is going to be huge. I feel kind of speechless about it,...
i've been meaning to try cross stich more. got a kit earlier this year. very inspiring post.
cross stitch is easyish
Hi everybody! It's Andy again! Woot woot. Well I had an adventure trying out the new kit. I will illustrate how I felt during each stage (I identified 3). Let's call the first stage Readiness: That's right. Ready for anything, bring it on. I opened a kit, got my nice new scissors and hoop. Loo...
Love this. I want this in a poster on my wall.
yoga...and shit.
(credits: religion slogans - unknown; yoga slogans + artwork - y is for yogini) The first part of the list is old-skool. And hilarious. The Rastafarianism one makes me laugh every time. It was high time yoga got the treatment, so I created the mastahpiece you see above. You've read my yoga slog...
my ears are wide open. i have a tendency to go and go and then crash. thanks for this reminder.
Take a Moment
The past four or so months have flown by in a whirlwind of change, chance happenings, and surprises. I'm certainly not complaining, but the pace and the depth of what's been happening has me often saying, " Ijust need a minute." A minute for what, you might ask. A minute to slow down, to take it...
voted! Congrats lady!!!
i'm one of shape magazine's best bloggers of 2011!
I got this amazing news a few weeks ago and sparkly rainbow confetti exploded from my chakras. True Story. 'Twas terribly startling for the innocent bystanders, but heart-thrilling for me! I wanted to share with you because you made it rain. You inspire me, you make me laugh, and I am inordina...
Oh, I love this. I am so guilty of beating myself up. I am going to make a point to try and schedule a few practices and classes a week! Great suggestions.
4 ways to get your yoga groove back { and how stella got hers }
photo credit: sleeping-colors.tumblr.com There's a little Stella in all of us. Shit goes down. Shit gets real. And then we lose our shit. The carefully cultivated practice of self-care is the first thing to disappear. From there, it's all downhill. Your energetic spoon is scraping an empty bowl...
your are so sneaky with the camera. I love the pictures!!
