I agree, I’ve already ripped the bricks off, though not as far down as in the mock-up. Cornice. It is a cornice, no special brickish term.

I have been patiently and thoughtfully bricking the left wall over the last week and a half...I finished yesterday. I also built most of the door...I have to stain it, fashion windows, and add a rubber coated bottom. I have... Continue reading

I faired the planks on the outside of the hull, it required hours of careful sanding. Once that was done I cut the stems from the strong back and removed the boat from the form. The inside is very scary,... Continue reading

That was a most enjoyable journey, thank you!
I had a productive day yesterday. In the morning, while I was waiting for the sun to come out, I covered my computer equipment with a doubled over bedsheet, then cut the base board to prep for a pool. I... Continue reading

I decided that lack of a worktable shouldn’t keep me from working on the contest kit. I chose some small tasks, starting with the rear wall. I added height, blocked the window, and filled in the groove where the loft... Continue reading

It’s been a month since my Governor issued a stay-at-home order. I am fortunate enough to be able to work full-time from home, but the only suitable location to do so is my studio, so I haven’t been working on... Continue reading

I LOVE THIS FLOOR. I constructed it with authentic used bricks, grouted with spackle, put on some gray grunginess, then sealed it with a matte varnish. It did not take as long as I suspected it would. The only thing... Continue reading

Because the walls panels in the conservatory are made from MDF I cut down and glued in coffee stir sticks to create an all wood surface that will take stain. Once the glue was dry I applied a coat of... Continue reading

My original plan for the conservatory involved an oceanfront pier/dock. Now that I’m using the contest kit for the dock I am reimagining the conservatory slightly. I am going to build the conservatory and the contest kit simultaneously so I... Continue reading

I’ve been playing with the contest kit...dreaming, scheming, doing the usual mental pre-build. The side wall isn’t wide enough to contain the elements I need without crowding. I was going to make it wider, but then it occurred to me... Continue reading

This year’s contest kit arrived yesterday. This is what I’m thinking... I won’t be using the pre-assembled stairs or the big window. If anyone needs them as additions to their contest kit, let me know. This idea has been floating... Continue reading

I dug deep for motivation and self-discipline, and got my studio back in working order again. Every box, bin, bag and pile was sorted through, evaluated and reorganized. I was moderately ruthless about what was allowed to stay. Three large... Continue reading

Thanks, Sheila. We got that piece two or three years ago at an art fair and are still fascinated by it, Matt is a huge fan of abstract art, I’m not as much, so it’s a good day when we find something we both love.

An overdue update of my life-sized home renovation. The living room and hallway are done, and the dining room almost. I don't have much in the way of 'before pictures'.... The kitchen, dining, and living rooms all had different wall... Continue reading
