Sounds like you had a fabulous time! I'm embarrassed to say I still haven't been to the Hillcrest market...I end up at either Pacific Beach on Sat. mornings (small with lots of cut flowers) or La Jolla on Sun. mornings (larger with great produce, prepared foods, and lots of other merchandise). Coconut pancakes do sound lovely ; )

jontyv -- I usually include between 1/2 and 3/4 c. of nuts to a recipe like this. It's a matter of taste to us since the nuts just add crunch. With walnuts, I'd add 1/2 c. because the flavor is strong. Sorry for leaving the quantity out of the ingredient list -- I hadn't noticed that. If you're interesting in continuing to read my blog (and thanks, by the way!) then please visit http://sassandveracity.com

jontyv -- I rarely put more than 1/2 - 3/4 c. of nuts in a cookie recipe. Sorry I hadn't noticed that the quantity was left from the ingredients list. If you're interested in continuing to read my blog, the new URL is http://sassandveracity.com

Hey Jill -- Glad you were able to try these biscuits. I've been using this recipe about 15 years and have never had it turn out poorly. Happy any time to help you look good for your folks. Hahahaha! Oh, and I moved. This recipe along with all the others on this site are over at http://sassandveracity.com See you there?

Hi Erin, Thanks for taking the time to stop by and try a recipe. Because the flavor of these cookies was so amazing, I'll definitely try your suggestions, so thanks for letting me know what worked for you. I'm no longer posting at this site, but have migrated all these recipes over to my new site http://sassandveracity.com Hope to see you there!

Hi Melissa! Thanks so much for taking the time to include so much info on your comment. That's what makes this all so much more interesting. Thanks especially for the notice on leaving the eggs out. I think sometimes it takes me so long to write these up, invariably I leave something out. I'll go back through it and correct it. Also, if you can, please visit my new site http://sassandveracity.com I'm no longer posting here but have migrated all these posts to the new site. Thanks again for taking the time to share your great adaptations to this recipe so others can enjoy them!

Hi Deanna -- I'm glad you enjoyed it especially because it's reminded me to make it again. We LOVED this! Maybe I'll just get a bit more fancy this time, too and try to update my yellow photos. *sigh*

Thanks Caron. The red frill mustard is definitely hard to come by. Searches brought up mostly seed suppliers, and a few farmer's markets. Number one spot was Specialty Produce.

Haley, that radish dish is AMAZING. I loved the pickled veggies. So easy and so many things you can do with it. Excellent!

The small molded cakes were in about 12-13 minutes along with the larger cake. Just took them out sooner. They were my sample.... ;)

Thanks for your advice, Laurie. Honestly, I've been a diligent recipe follower for this type of dish and it's amazing that not one has said to spread everything out. I am TOTALLY trying that next time because I know that what you're saying about the oil and roasting has to end up making so much more flavor.

Bristol Farms I like food Disneyland, isn't it? I'm thinking it's better that you ended up at Apollonia!

So much better for you than Diet Coke. But then, so are refried beans. ;)

Can't wait to hear about the outcome of your dinner -- so much fun! Thanks also for the heads up on another source for Halloumi. It's quite a bit farther for me though.

Would love to had the halloumi with this. Think it would work with the pork when I try it? Definitely OPA!

I need to try the pork -- love marinades with a yogurt base. Thanks for the heads up on the typo, too, girlie!

Hi Sagan -- cheers to another ABBA fan! The casserole is very good -- I'm sure to keep playing around with the flavors. Hey BD! Nope, haven't seen the play, but sent my oldest to see it in LA years ago when it first came out. Would love to go.

My husband figured out he needed to go on a diet for the first time about 5 years ago. Always a very thin man, his sedentary job caused the pounds to add up. Infuriatingly, all he had to give up was CocaCola to drop 10 pounds. Last year, since he'd never really increased his Coke intake, he had to start working out, and he lost 16 lbs. I walk, do light weights, eat balanced meals, and really have to work to lose even 2 lbs. So annoying! But congrats to you on your achievement. Guess I'll just have to work harder!

I love the way you've described this and miss the wide-eyed wonder young children have for the world and its events. I do enjoy having great discussions with my older boys now, though, because I am one who will always struggle to keep any emotion -- especially about politics -- in check!

Hey Ginerva -- It is droolworthy. Especially the grilled cheese. And surprisingly, it went off without a hitch. Unless you count egg yolks and yeasty liquid all over my counter a hitch. Yep, it leaked. Heh.

Hey Jerry, you always have great suggestions. I hadn't thought of that -- THANKS! Peabody -- YUM. How could you wait so long. Get to it, woman!

Excellent way to put quite a bit into a nice and tidy post. Well done! I supposed I should actually try and get paid for a few of my words. I have looked into editing and proofreading. Just haven't followed through. Currently, I'm involved in grant writing. I guess that counts.

You are quite welcome, Mike! I'm curious about the rest of those recipes, too. My mom used to purchase the Navy wives cookbook (my stepfather was in the Navy) and there are some great gems that I'd never find in one of my cookbooks!
