Moms of supersize babies unite! I had to buy a new car seat when my son was 12 weeks. Because I know you will end up needing to know this, Evenflo makes a booster seat that has a 5 point rated to 65lbs/50" tall, I'm 2" off him outgrowing this now!
Road Tripping with Harlow
Giveaway: Evenflo ProComfort Symphony DLX All-In-One Car Seat This August, I decided to live in our summer house for the entire month. I can work from anywhere and we did just sink a bunch of money into our new abode, so I should take advantage, right? The plan is this: Mazzy, Harlow and I wil...
My son has a habit of puking about half an hour into any long journey. He puked up something bright pink all over literally everything in the middle of massive Chicago highway construction, at rush hour on a Friday as we were half an hour into our 20 hour drive to Florida. He rode all the way to Knoxville in just his diaper! Since he calls all bodily functions by their color, puke is now known as pink, as I discovered as we set off from San Antonio on Sunday - "mommy I need to do pink".

That is such a cute video, I wish I had one for each of my kids!
A Day in the Life of Harlow
Sorry folks, there will be no "Monday Mornings" post today. We are taking a short break between each city to travel, photograph, interview, etc. for the next one. Last week was the last of the Chicago moms and on August 18th we will resume with LA. Today, I'd like to share a very special video...

I wonder if there's a diamond encrusted Butt Paste.
How to Prevent Diaper Rash Like the Rich and Famous
Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with her third kid. I know what you are thinking— What the hell do I get for her baby shower??? It's a tough decision. You are probably losing sleep over it. I know, I am. First of all, you have to compete with Uncle Kanye. I bet that guy spares no expense. Seco...
Well of course now that I don't live in Chicago anymore...
Congrats, very excited for you that you get to expand your series like this, it's a great project.
"Monday Mornings" is Hitting the Road!
I've got a big announcement to make today, but before I do, let me give the newbies a little background. Last year, I did a photo shoot for Well Rounded NY with lifestyle photographer, Raquel Bianca to document my morning routine. Many reacted to the photos negatively. People thought they look...

30 Hilarious Headlines About Pregnancy
Last week, I introduced an ad campaign I created for healthy mama, a new line of over-the-counter remedies designed specifically for pregnant women. The products use the safest* ingredients to tackle common pregnancy symptoms like heartburn, lack of sleep, pain relief, nausea and constipation— ...
Both of my kids loved to play 'hide the high value banknotes', where you take either EUR100 or $100 depending on where you live at the time, and disappearing it from all sight, forever and ever.
There is also 'drop one cat biscuit into the cat's water so that mommy has to change it, again' which is very popular on my house.
10 Games My Baby Plays That I Have No Chance of Winning
In addition to a rousing two-sided game of peekaboo and some impressive stacking skills, Harlow is building up an arsenal of games to entertain herself at all times. In fact, she'd love to teach them to your babies so they can play them with you too! Just give her a moment to explain the rule...

The Big Ticket Stroller Giveaway
There are a lot of things I would have done differently had I planned for my second child when I had my first. For instance, I might have made Mazzy's room more gender neutral instead of the girliest room alive (I lucked out with that one). I wouldn't have given my mother piles of baby cloth...

Husband shaming. Closely followed by Hannukah elf shaming. And all the letters to babies.

Well Kyle is 2 right now so he could do with adopting all of those resolutions. Although I have mittens down, because I sewed them on to his coat sleeves so he has no choice. And if I could get him to have a security item that was not my hair, I would let him carry as many as he wanted.
Also, I totally have my old ipad to my toddler after getting a mini for myself. He is now free to watch Pocoyo in every language it comes in.
Revisiting Resolutions My 2yo Made Last Year: How Did She Do?
Mazzy's taller and her hair is longer, but has she really GROWN since last year? One year ago, I wrote "15 New Year's Resolutions I Wish My 2yo Would Make" which basically listed all the things from naptime to mealtime I hoped would change over the course of 2012. Today, we're going to see ho...
With regard to number 9 and gifts, you have to wait 6 years, move to another country and get new friends. Then there are gifts.
Actually I was more worried with my second because now I knew all the things that actually could go wrong, rather than what I may have imagined from reading every book published about babies. Like how expensive stitches are at the ER.
10 Differences Between 1st and 2nd Time Moms
Today I took Harlow to the doctor for her one month check-up. The doctor asked me if she was pooping regularly. I stopped to think. "Ummm... I'm not sure. Maybe?" Oh crap. I'm supposed to be keeping track of this sort of thing, right? Suddenly I remembered the detailed diary I kept for Mazzy...
What an awesome party, and even more awesome friend!
It's a 3rd Birthday Miracle!
When I found out I was giving birth less than a month before Mazzy's third birthday, I figured we would skip the festivites this year. I didn't see how I could possibly pull off a birthday party while taking care of a newborn. Mazzy wouldn't notice, right? Riiiight... as soon as we started fi...
Inappropriate elf is literally my favorite thing about Christmas now. I need one just so I can enter this competition!
Those Elves Get More Inappropriate Every Year
This year, Santa has taken a back seat to the new face of Christmas. That face is the wide-eyed "Elf on the Shelf" who has been working overtime, peddling his breed of mischief. He will not rest until every mother, father and child's holiday season completely revolves around all things ELF. L...
I took Kiki out on a tram in Amsterdam (and shopping) when she was 6 days old. Kyle came to our anniversary lunch at Olive Garden when he was 5 days old. What can I say, us Europeans do it different.
And Kyle had the same ability to cry the second I sat down to eat anything. It was like he could sense it or something.
9 Things I Already Know About My Baby Girl
Baby Harlow has been on this earth for 18 days now. Not counting that all-inclusive vacation she spent in my uterus (I hear the drinks are free, you can sleep all day and the temperature is fantastic). In that short amount of time, I have gotten to know her pretty well. Especially since we a...
Almost there! Although if it were my house, my husband would suddenly have to take over one night and blow all my hard work in an instant.
Breaking a Bad Bedtime Routine
Mazzy's rough transition to a toddler bed has been well documented. But it seems each time I write about it, it only gets worse. Every night, Mazzy gets more and more demanding, and my husband and I have resorted to any means necessary to appease THE QUEEN. When exactly my soon-to-be three-ye...
We saw the Magnatiles for the first time at a cool play place near us recently, I was excited to buy some for Kyle until I saw how expensive they are!
A Holiday Gift Guide for the Little Ones
Today is Cyber Monday, a day when people who don't want to lose a limb in a stampede over a discounted microwave are now free to shop the sales from the comfort of their own home. Also, as a mother currently in DAY 9 of NEWBORN HIBERNATION MODE, this happily sounds like an activity in which I...
Gutted because I could totally win that contest, thanks to the Dutch not giving a crap about being sued.
The Belated Halloween Costume Awards
The Halloween Costume Awards are a little belated this year since many towns on the East Coast celebrated late due to Hurricane Sandy. There were tons of photos submitted to the Mommy Shorts fanpage (including Peyton's direct challenge to Mazzy's Olivia costume up top) and I couldn't possibl...
What can I say, us Jens from England are pretty talented!
That is a lovely quilt, Mazzy is going to treasure it forever I think.
Mazzy's Side of the Room
It's no secret that Mazzy is about to have her world rocked. Every parent I have spoken to about having a second kid says, "The baby is easy. It's the toddler who will make your life a living hell." In addition to having to share Mom and Dad, Mazzy will also have to share her room. At the mo...

BIG NEWS: I Haven't Given Birth Yet!
I have nothing planned to write about this week. I assumed I would either be in the hospital or announcing my daughter's birth by now, so I find myself in some sort of weird mommy blogging purgatory. As I'm sure I've mentioned many times (you can read the full birth story here), Mazzy was two...
So glad you guys are all OK, and it's great that you managed to get somewhere else to stay so quickly. Now keep those legs crossed!
Mother Nature Cancels Halloween
Thank you to everyone who expressed concern yesterday! We are fine. We have no power, water, wireless or heat but also thankfully, NO BABY. We are currently staying with friends on the Upper West Side, where everything appears to be functioning pretty much as normal. That's Mazzy on Sunday, a...
This is what king size beds were invented for.
My daughter was never one to sleep in our bed, even when she was sick. But the little guy slept in our bed most nights until about 6 months ago, when he just took himself into his own bed one night and that was it. He still comes barging in at 6am, but usually finds the ipad and is happy. But when he was in our bed, he also did that sideways sleeping thing Mazzy is doing here. Without fail.
The Intruder in Our Bed
In the two plus years I've been a mom, I've heard from lots of other parents that their kids sleep in bed with them. I thought those parents were CRAZY. First of all, I didn't understand how bedtime went down. Did they put the kids to sleep in their bed first and then join them later? Or did...
Argh you're lucky you're pregnant here in the US. When I was pregnant with my first in Holland I had to give up my seat to old ladies all the time, once I had a young guy in a suit give ME a dirty look for not standing to give my seat to a woman who actually appeared to be way less pregnant than me, but she was dressed to let everyone know about it while I was dressed for work. The day before I actually gave birth, at 41.5 weeks, I had to give up my seat to a really old lady because she was really struggling to stand and literally nobody else would get up. I could not believe what was happening. But hey, I avoided an induction so thanks lazy Dutchies.
10 Reasons Third Trimester is Kind of Awesome
By now I thought I'd be boring you all with the sordid details of my pregnancy but instead I haven't been talking about it at all. Turns out I don't really want to revisit the suckiness of my first trimester and the second trimester was (thankfully) pretty uneventful. Can you believe, I'm now...
Mine is the same and she's 8. She loves Lego, and Pokemon, and Skylanders (yes she has expensive taste). She also loves having her hair done, and wearing pink dresses. It's a problem now because she doesn't share interests with the girls at school, and the boys don't want to play with a girl, especially one in a pink dress. Ah the joys of almost tweendom.
No Tomboys or Girlie Girls Here
A while back, I wrote a post for Babble called "Maybe We Should Let Girls be Bakers and Ballerinas" about how Mazzy was gravitating towards Strawberry Shortcake and Abby Cadabby (through no prompting from me whatsoever) and I didn't want to discourage what came naturally to her. Then, almost ...
It didn't take much convincing. My husband still finds reasons we should have gone with it after 2 years.
The Dumbest Baby Name: It's a Competition!
Earlier this week, I asked a simple question on the Mommy Shorts Facebook Fanpage: "What was the worst baby name your significant other suggested?" There were over 130 responses. Today, we are putting the absolute dumbest suggestions to a vote in an old fashioned comment competition— with pr...
