I've been gone. It's been A LONG TIME. Sorry about that. It's just that school started in August and I took on more responsibility in my department, and then I seemed to forget that I had anything else of interest to do. The good thing is that I haven't only... Continue reading

I've been meaning to start an etsy store for sewing and crafting (like everyone else in the world, I know), but I have procrastinated just like everything else requiring a good chunk of my time. There's a ton of time in summer for sewing and crafting, but come the school... Continue reading

I've been a bit of a slacker...we snuck away for a mini-vacation to Wisconsin before school began. It was a great time with some great friends. Just what we needed. Prior to leaving, however, I put the finishing touches on the DIY Lightbox. See, I took this screenprinting class a... Continue reading

I have a habit of coming to all 'popular' award winning television shows a bit late. I started watching LOST in its fifth season, on the second to last episode. J was patient enough with me at first to pause every ten minutes or so to give me the four... Continue reading

Ohhhh thanks for the new recipe idea! Next time we have salmon I'll have J follow your directions. I am new to oatmeal--I hated it as a kid unless I could put it on toast...weird, huh? The Kashi maple brown sugar is pretty good though. Maybe I'll try another flavor this year....maybe!

Thanks, Kat ;)
I might have made the craziest decision of my post-25 life...I'm going to fight in my martial art school's tournament in October. I have been attending the school for about 14 months taking their blend classes, which combine all different styles of martial arts. In addition, I have been learning... Continue reading

I have found a new love in fish, specifically salmon. Delicious! J made this beauty on the grill using a wood plank. Salted & peppered prior to grilling and some lemon juice after, that's it. I could eat this everyday. What could you eat every day? Continue reading

What a glorious Sunday...well, it didn't start that way since we had a pretty long day and night on Saturday (read: hangover), but the upcoming Bon Iver concert was enough to get us through the day. We hopped on the train to meet some friends for dinner at an Elephant... Continue reading

The MTL Romper is done! The best part? I really do LOVE it! The last few dresses I've made I haven't been completely satisfied with because of one thing or another. I rushed through them and that's what I get. This romper though...this romper! I took my time. Look what... Continue reading

On Monday I had to go into school to meet with a few colleagues and discuss our plans for the 2011-2012 school year. I've done this twice already in June, but it didn't really affect me much since I knew I still had months of summer vacation left (meaning plenty... Continue reading

Over the weekend J and I took in the annual Pitchfork Music Festival. We first started attending the fest in 2007 when we still lived in Gurnee, using it as an excuse to take a mini-summer vacation to the city. It was something like $30 a day then, which was... Continue reading

I posted earlier about taking on TThe Sew Weekly's newest feature MTL: Make This Look, but life took over and I got too busy to really spend the time doing it. Now I have a little bit of time and am looking forward to starting on the romper. Chicago's Pitchfork... Continue reading

Yesterday J decided that it was time we went on a summertime beach picnic. Very good idea! He readied our lunch while I got myself showered and dressed. We packed our stuff, got our bikes, and set off for Montrose Beach. It was such a beautiful day! All the humidity... Continue reading

I finally finished this (these) dress(s). When I first started sewing there were a few projects that were totally too difficult for my skill range. They frustrated me and I threw them in my 'to be finished later' pile; a lot of people call it their UFO or their un-finished... Continue reading

I hate baking, but I am somehow getting better at it. Who would have thought that you get better at something the more you do it? There wasn't a lot of difficulty in what I did tonight, really...Just some Peanut Butter Cookies. They were pretty good, and on top of... Continue reading

We achieved a major goal for the summer; going on a Chicago boat tour. J's parents came down for the day and we had a pretty amazing time learning about the architecture of Chicago. Picture bomb!!!!! Continue reading

There are maybe four gals that I have ever been able to have a normal relationship with in my adult life. Two of them are live close to me now and two of them live further away :( The ones that do live further I tend to correspond here and... Continue reading

I was antsy. It was only seven in the morning, and the coffee was still brewing. Talk about a danger zone. With each drip a new idea of what to do on this bright, new, Friday popped into my mind. I knew that as soon as J was up I... Continue reading

It's been quite busy around here lately, in a good way though, lots of fun stuff! Most of the time we are getting home pretty late, requiring us to sleep in a bit more then we're used to, and some times I have to get up and go for some... Continue reading

We started off the 4th by waking up slow, drinking coffee and watching cats bathe themselves in the sun-filled windowsills. It was great, but only a tiny bit of the awesomeness that was to come. We grabbed our bikes and made our way to the beach to people watch and... Continue reading

I woke up this morning and went through my usual routine; brush teeth, grab computer, drink coffee, look at bloglines & facebook. I had very high hopes to get to Jo-ann Fabrics when it first opened in order to beat the weekend/holiday rush, but I was a bit of a... Continue reading
