It's been a long summer. A long summer without some puck. I've watched the World Cup, Baseball, British Open, Tennis, "The Decision", and way too much reality television. Let me tell you what I have learned in my very biased opinion. Hockey is the best. The players are real. The sport is the most genuine. I'm not taking away from people who loved the World Cup, or hung on every word of Lebron's ridiculous 60 minute special, or NASCAR lovers or even those who somehow made it through 4 days of bad golf depite Louie's heroics on the final day.... As I stood in the locker room moments after the 5-2 loss to San Jose in Game 6, I noticed something very interesting...it was quiet, but there was a sense of pride after the loss. Normally, Postgame interviews after a loss are terrible. The guys don't want to re-hash every mistake they made, talk about a neutral zone turnover that cost them a goal late in the 3rd period or a bad penalty that resulted in the game-winning goal. At a time like that, I'm not the guy they want to see. But after this one, it was different; every... Continue reading

When the dead deer carcus arose from the back of their seasoned traveling mobile, Tommy and Richard couldn't belive their eyes. The "cherry" of a ride, as Richard called it, had been destroyed. Ripped to shreds, burned, and torn apart by Bambi, the 8-seeded animal. As they stood there dumbfounded, one of the most classic movie lines ever spoke came from the mouth of Tommy Boy..."I swear I've seen a lot of stuff in my life, but THAT.....WAS...AWESOME.....but sorry bout your car man....that sucks." After putting on one of the greatest acrobatic, mind-boggling performances in the history of the Stanley... Continue reading

Just outside of Blue Sky Grill stands a man about 5-foot-nuthin, hair slicked back, glasses hanging on the end of his nose, happy as can be. His name is Jose. I walk by him about 10 times a night during any given Avalanche game, on my way to the lockeroom(s) and back inside the arena. Regardless of what kind of mood I am in, or what the score might be, we exchange the same conversation every single time I pass him. I shout, "Hey Jose..." and without any hesitation he fires right back, "How we doin?" That's it. Nothing more.... Continue reading

It sure feels different having the team home. After playing a league leading 21 road games, the Avs finally caught a break in the schedule. Back at home in December~ for once, they can hit the snooze button and sleep in their own beds for a change. With wins in Tampa, Columbus, and St. Louis and a 3-2 road record on the last trip, the Avs can focus on winning at home and getting some Christmas shopping done. I saw Alex Ovechkin. He's a big dude. Alot of media around when Washington was in town, I was in the lockeroom... Continue reading

Every morning I crawl out of bed, stumble down the stairs, and check the NHL Standings. It's kind of comical actually, no bathroom break, no trip to the coffee pot, not even a glance at the cereal bowl that has been laid out for me by my wife. I log right on and check to see where my team stands among hockey's elite. ON TOP. That has been the case for several weeks now, shifting spots every now and then with the Sharks or the Penguins depending on who played the night before. That's my bread and butter, a pop-tart,...
