So looking forward to your continuation of your Grandmother's blog. She was so admired and respected by her followers. :-)
Carrying on the legacy...
As many of you probably already know me. My name is Xantiana. I am Pat's oldest granddaughter. You have probably heard a story a time or two about me. She was one of my biggest cheerleaders and loved to share stories about me on the "Back Porch". I would like to say thank you on behalf of ...
Glad you're home- have been anxiously following on FB. Best wishes for a speedy recovery and good news in the test results.
What is Happening Here!
Hello everyone! You have probably guessed by now, I have been a tad bit under the weather. Those of you who follow my personal page at Facebook, know something about what has been happening. Two weeks ago, this coming Monday, May 16 I had some rather disturbing abdominal symptoms that cause...
What's visual treat to see your new home dressed for the holiday! Just so pretty and comfortable, Pat!
A Christmas Tour Around Our Home
Welcome This Santa was a Christmas gift from J about 25 years ago. I removed the dinnerware and linens. The centerpiece will remain on the table through Christmas. This is a photo heavy post. I rarely put many photos on a post...
I HAVE to find those magnolia garlands! Your mantel is amazing and gorgeous, Pat.
A Christmas Mantel
I’m not quite sure what to do with the tree this year. We will decorate after Thanksgiving. I found the 5 ft faux magnolia garland and magnolia stems at Amazon. I ordered a 2 pack of the garland and 6 stems for filler. I also used magnolia leaves I purchased over Summer. The berries, green...
It is all coming together so nicely, Pat. And it's definitely homey.....
Tuesday Tidbits 16
We needed a small chair for the living room. I wanted a contemporary look, neutral fabric, reversible cushions. I found the chair I had in mind, last week. It fits perfectly in this corner of the great room. The fabric is herringbone in beige, with a hint of green. We brought a few more...
Hope you are feeling much better- you probably were run down and consequently, susceptible to that virus! Have you painted blocks of your colors on your walls? Anymore, I recommend that clients do this because the color on the sample never looks the same in a room that is affected by natural light coming into the room. I used Amazing Gray in two of my rooms and each room looks completely different. I am satisfied with that difference, however, which is why I used it. It reads very gray in our bedroom and in the dining room, it reads light blue. Grays are always the most difficult to work with, IMHO. Have fun with your selections, Pat!
Time for More Decisions
Hello dear friends…by now you’ve probably heard about my little spell. No sooner than J had been dismissed from hospital, a week ago last Thursday and signed the papers to purchase our new home the next day, this virus going around landed on me with a bang! I am the healthy one, remember. At ...
Such good news, Pat! I know you will make the new home just as special as this one. Stay warm anc cozy. We got about 4-5 inches here last nite and it is actually +1 out right now. warm spell.... LOL
Home Update
Sunday night and early Monday, the first appreciable snowfall of this Winter arrived. We were beginning to wonder if we would see the white stuff this year. We aren’t complaining about a little snow, because we have great news to share with you today. As of early Monday morning our home is of...
What a beautiful and colorful arrangement for dreary winter! I'm eagerly waiting for spring and greenery- midwest winters are so brutal. I need to bring in a touch of color with a bouquet or two. :-)
Brighten the Corner
Needing a pick me up, I stopped by Troy Flower Shop and asked Carla to put together a bouquet for the enamel coffee pot. Just right to brighten a corner of the breakfast room. Beautifully bright and deliciously fragrant. Brighten the corner where you are and...
Pat, All of that food looks simple, yet so delicious! I hope the upcoming new year is wonderful for you and all of your loved ones. ~ Sue
We’ll Take a Cup of Kindness
New Years Eve Lunch We enjoyed a simple lunch in the dining room on the last day of 2014. Our cup ‘o kindness was to health and happiness in 2015. Cheese, summer sausage, a variety of crackers, fig spread, fruit, olives, and wine. The black dress post is under construction. I h...

A New Vintage Hot Spot: Antiques Village in Dayton Ohio
Antiques Village Don't let the shopping center facade keep you from visiting Antiques Village. Newly opened this August, this antique and vintage-indie type mall is a great new hot spot to add to your usual stops. Each "shop" or booth is located on a street off of "Main St." We really ...
I like the dinnerware pattern - it's a simple and sweet table. Glad you are on the mend and are able to get back to your tablescaping passion. :-) Sue
Lite Lunch in the Dining Room
Dear fellow dish fanatics…she is on her way back. I thought I would take a nap Monday, late morning, but encountered a tiny problem. I kept seeing this table. No matter how many dishes, instead of sheep, I counted, I did not fall asleep. I asked J to help me gather four Mikasa French Countrysi...
Love the green and blue combination, Pat. The back porch looks so very comfortable- the perfect spot for a little R & R! Sure wish I had a covered porch, in addition to our deck and back patios. Darn those pesky rodents-Hope he/she is gone....
Summer Porch Dress Up
Even though our back porch is fairly small, we like to think it packs a good punch. Perfect for sitting and sipping wine, tea, or coffee, or reading, or napping. It suits us and has served us well over the years. Awhile back, we ordered outdoor wicker rocking chairs for the back porch. After...
You are really to be congratulated for all the effort you've put into your running, Dana!! What an achievement! So much of this sport is mental- psyching yourself into believing you WILL make it to the end or up a hill..... You should be so proud of yourself! xo Sue
I CONQUERED THE HILL
Last week, I shared that I was going to participate in the 5K event of THE HOSPITAL HILL RUN in Kansas City, MO. This photo was taken on Saturday morning, June 1st, at 4;43 a.m. as I was gearing up to head to the run site. It's times like these that I smack myself in the face and say "what...
After seeing yours, I think I need a fountain for our front walkway! I'm behind in putting together my pots and getting the yard cleaned up because of the weird hot/cold temps we've been experiencing. Heck- we had frost last night and the furnace kicked on again! I'll get it together eventually - if Mother Nature cooperates.
Wish I had your porch as another space to decorate- yours looks wonderful, yet again! :-)
Snapshots & Salsa

Aviary Jacquard
After J’s appointment with his neurologist Friday, we had lunch then walked around the mall awhile. We browsed Williams Sonoma, where I found a table runner in Aviary Jacquard. It inspired this table, set for 8, with Mikasa French Countryside in the breakfast room. The runner is 108 inches. I...
Pat, having a protected area like your porch is a dream of mine. Your outdoor decorating is as nice as the interior and just as homey! Good luck with the condo sale. :-)
Que Sera Sera
We drove to Lake of the Ozarks before daylight, Saturday morning. We were on a mission; a furniture moving mission. We’ve decided to list our lake condo for sale. We will sell most of the furnishings with the condo. There are a few pieces we want to keep and the kiddo’s asked for a couple of...
It all looks very appetizing, Pat! The classic black and white theme is always a hit with me and you never fail at setting a wonderful table. :-)
Two Weeks Before Easter
Thank you Brenda, of Cozy Little House, for the wonderful feature of our home and BPM, today. All around the back porch, it is time for seasonal change. Springtime arrives this week, even though snow is falling this Saint Patrick’s Day morning. My idea was to have coffee, semi homemade do...
Stone Rabbit looks mighty festive for today! We had our Irish meal last night- my favorite is always the sweet soda bread. There are plenty of leftovers to make some Reuben sandwiches, too. Glad you enjoyed your meal. :-) Sue

Pat, Is that a pitcher or a vase? It is gorgeous, either way. And I love the little birdie napkin rings. All so very pretty.... It is winter here! Cold, damp, and depressing. :-)
Spring can't get here fast enough.
Winter Swan Song?
We Shall See "Swan song" is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement. The phrase refers to an ancient belief that swans sing a beautiful song in the moment just before death, having been silent (or alternatively, not so musical) ...
The porch looks even more like an "inside" room with the a addition of the new mantel, Pat. I like that you used a light stain on the wood. It's a nice, clean look. :-)
Back Porch Mantel
IMAGINE THE POSSIBLILITIES BEFORE I snapped this photo around 8 AM, February 1st. The temperature was 8 degrees Fahrenheit. This was the day trim guy chose to build a mantel on the back porch. The temperature was around 20 something by noon. I observed the progress from the warm and toa...
Pat, this truly is an elegant and romantic setting. The tablecloth is so pretty. I love this room, period!
~A Dark and Stormy Day~
I composed this post while keeping an eye on the sky today, Tuesday. Explaining the title; we’ve had thunderstorms and tornado warnings. The unseasonably warm weather brought these storms. They are predicting snow showers for Wednesday. With a little of this and tad of that, I changed th...
