Tucked up in a blanket and slippers. Today, we have rain. We waited all summer for this, and now we have it - at the wrong time. The leaves will fall faster. In another couple of hours, I will head up the mountain to an arts retreat with some brilliant and some not so brilliant people, some of whom I love. I don't want to go. I want to get into my jammies and read and finish the last camel's Christmas clothes. I am sleepy, not chatty. I am taking lion yarn and one of Linda Dawkins' patterns with me. And some yarn to make manes and tails with. So I don't lose my mind, sitting still in real clothes with shoes on. I don't want to go. But it only happens once a year. Rain and mountains. I'm glad Toby got a mess of party rings for his birthday - everyone should be allowed something like - a great, grown parent with all power simply opening the windows of heaven -

Happy birthday, Mama - it's such a mystery and adventure, that day - when out pops a spirit from God, a person in his own right, encased in a body that's always going to be a surprise. We never know where the adventure will lead us, but it will always be a lesson in love. A very long lesson in love. You, I think, were chosen especially for this one, and for Amy - your strengths and your gifts tuned for these little packages of person. He must be very proud of you, the one who sends.

What an amazing and engaging face! You should see the last thing I tried to felt - it was with a different kind of roving - very rough and full of bits of red something. It was supposed to be a rabbit, but the felting and that course roving wasn't fun. Some day I will sit down again and make a fox. Or a white something, as I have lots of white. But never will I ever be able to make an adorable face like that.

I do not grow things. But I have stolen raspberries, tomatoes and apples this month from my neighbors who do. It's not really stealing, as I have been asked to please come and help myself. But I am pretending to be a small thief, since I feel like one, just walking into someone else's garden - so much work, so much neat effort - and I, who has done no work at all but the climbing of a fence, or the traversing of a street, run off with a shirt hem full of treasure.

And yet, what better witness of a blanket's utter rightness?

Good grief - Typepad can't remember me from one minute to the next anymore. But I have to say, you are amazing, hazel = and your friend is beeeeautiful, wonderful, amazing and quite beautifully striped. You both have such lovely faces - they radiate love. Be glad you're not a human these days - so much worry, exhausting political meanness = I'd much rather move to where you are so we can be neighbors.

Hazel, honey. There are just things we don't want to ask our friends. Let's just go get some ice cream.

I can see myself making tiny chickens for my egg-buddies for Christmas. Like little jewels to give as gifts.
Oh, but - I have to shoot a quilt show all day Monday - hoping that's not THE day. And when I get home, I'll have to deal with double vision. Always happens to me after this dang quilt show -

YAY!! It worked!! And I want to be part of the giveaway. I never win anything, so I don't throw in my lot that often. But this? Oh, yeah. This is worth it, even if (when) I lose!
