I spent the weekend working on goals for various parts of my life so that I could be prepared to hit the floor running in January. This looks like the perfect book--and boy, I LOVE that title! Kristi Holl www.KristiHoll.com www.institutechildrenslit.net/Writers-First-Aid-blog

The ongoing challenge I face is consistency. Some days I manage to write 3,000 words, then the next day I won't get much done at all. I do believe that "slow and steady wins the writing race," but I don't seem to master the "steady" part very often.

These are simple--yet profound--writing truths. Thanks for the reminder! And doing those three things consistently will boost your own enthusiasm in no time at all.

This is a great idea for school visits as well! If you do creative writing workshops, use this technique for getting children to write stories. Use a child's dictionary for younger children. They would have such fun with this. It would also show them how different each writer is--their stories would all be so different, even if using the same three words.

I think your comments are really valid, and quite often time away from a piece shows us where we got off-track. But sometimes it also shows us that our "brilliant" idea was pretty hackneyed and over-done--and should never see the light of day. Both realizations are helpful!

The brain comment in your article was fascinating. I'd never heard that about right-brained people (being able to access negative events faster, as well as being more prone to depression.) But it makes perfect sense. All the more reason to monitor our own "stinking thinking" and make those changes!

Thank you for telling it like it is. It's unreal how many scams and near-scams there are proliferating on the web these days.

These writing prompts make great "opening exercises" for your writing group or critique group too. It gets people in the right creative mood to work. If only we'd take time out of our hectic days--maybe two or three times a day--to do a short writing prompt! I bet we'd be amazed at the buried stuff that would come to the surface that we could use in our writing.
