OK, someone's gotta do it... Geothermal Reality Check: First off, Iceland does geothermal energy. That's where the the Geo provides the Thermal. This NorthAmerican ground-source-heat-pump-mislabeled-as GeoThermal (c) R TM stuff is a crock. No matter the circumstance, GSHP are basically big airconditioners running backwards. They are an expensive, energy intensive, maintenance intensive, unsustainable technology that are dependant on a functioning electrical grid. If the building doesn't have R-40 walls and R-80 ceiling and perimeter foundation insulation, spend the money on fixing those deficits and creating long-term energy assets.
