Thank you as always for your inspiring words Timji. I remember you once saying that "it doesn't matter whether your guru thinks he is a guru, it only matters if you think your guru is a guru. You are heavy with knowledge, yet light with prana. This has been a very difficult year for me - starting about the time I started making travel plans to come to Encinitas last year and then, when I got home, my husband moved into the other bedroom the second night I was home. I had an intuition when I was there that something wasn't right (I would have had to be blind not to realize it) If it hadn't been for your teaching and your weekly guidance, my life would have been much more cloudy. I plan to come see you again soon whenever I am available and whatever you are doing at that time - a single woman!

The Autumnal Equinox occurs at 2:05am PDT on Friday September 23rd. On this day, all over the planet there will be approximately equal parts light and darkness. Symbolically, this represents a day of perfect balance of opposite yet complimentary forces. This kind of balance is the goal of Hatha ...
Isn't the 17th also a full moon in the northern hemisphere? Is this considered particularly auspicious as well. Certainly in the Hindu tradition there have been many full moons on Hanuman's birthday :)

Tuesday April 12th Tuesday April 12th is Ram Navami, the birthday of Sri Rama-the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Lord Vishnu made the descent into human form as Rama for the specific purpose of killing Ravanna, the demon king. This story is beautifully told in the ancient Indian epic calle...
I have just recently realized how much I have wanted to escape reality the past few years and after starting to re-read Pema Chodren's book "When Things Fall Apart" understood that the more I ran, the more I would be chased. I'm glad to know that the universe will be supporting me as I stand my ground and embrace whatever comes my way. Thank you Timji - see you soon!
Tuesday April 5th
On Monday April 4th, the planet Neptune moved into the sign of Pisces for the first time in 150 years. Neptune will turn retrograde in June and by August will move back into Aquarius for the following six months. On February 3rd, 2012 Neptune will re-enter Pisces for a thirteen year stay. Nep...
I am usually a stickler for the traditional Ashtanga approach (at least as I have learned it through Tim Miller) but I have admit to a secret love of Larry's Rocket 2 DVD which I practice maybe once a week and teach a class based on the beginning (up to Upavistakonasa) of that sequence. Like Larry, I have no illusions about myself as a student or as a teacher and I truly appreciate your tribute to your friend. We are all where we are supposed to be.
Tuesday, March 29th
On Sunday April 3rd I’ll be flying up to San Francisco to attend a celebration of the life of my old friend Larry Schultz. Larry passed away from liver disease caused by hepatitis C on February 27th, while he was visiting his wife Marie’s parents in Toledo, Ohio. He was 60 years old, three month...
Dear Timji, this post has special meaning for me as I am about to undergo a sort of personal journey of the soul, and I could certainly use someone to tell me that "It's all good." I love your stories always.
Tuesday, January 11th
On this date 29 years ago I was in Mysore for the first time. Having just arrived a few days before, I was feeling overwhelmed by the phantasmagoria that is India. On January 14th I was witness to my first Indian festival—Makara Sankranti. This is the only festival of the year in India that is b...
I still celebrate Armistice Day :)
Tuesday, November 9th
On Thursday November11th we celebrate Veterans’ Day. Originally this was known as Armistice Day, commemorating the treaty between the Allies of World War I and Germany for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front. The treaty took effect at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the e...

Tim, I love this post. The play of dualities is one of my favorite themes in yoga and in literature! Plus, the moon is now in my sun sign and autumn, anywhere in the northern hemisphere (I've never been in the southern) has always been my favorite time of year. I'm leaving for a road trip to come see you on the last day of the sign of Libra, October 22nd, my birthday! Can't wait to see Encinitas and Carlsbad and your studio!
Tuesday, September 21st
On Wednesday September 22 at 8:09pm PDT, the sun passes over the equator on its way south. In the northern hemisphere this marks the Autumnal Equinox, a day when all over the planet we have equal parts of light and darkness. The Sun enters the sign of Libra represented by the scales of balance. ...
Who is to judge what constitutes a certain medium as sacred. Sharing on-line is probably the most democratic and far-reaching medium at this time. Print it out and put it in a folder if you worry about losing it. With all respect and understanding to all opinions.
Tuesday August 31st
As the sun makes it’s annual transit of Virgo until the autumnal equinox on September 22nd, we experience an increased sensitivity to matters relating to personal health. Mercury in retrograde until September 12th predisposes us to re-experience old, potentially dysfunctional patterns of body, ...
So glad that you are sharing your wisdom with us on-line Tim! Many thanks.

Regarding Tuesdays, Pattabhi Jois would sometimes say, “Tuesday is a bad day.” It is related to the planet Mars which is associated with conflict and accidents. Guruji never gave out new poses, and never shaved on a Tuesday. Mars is linked with the manipura chakra, the fire center that burns ...
