Oh, that jetlag is a dangerous thing. I fell asleep standing up at a Paul Kelly concert once. ;)
Advent Calendar Day #17 and #18
Day 17 and 18 kind of overlapped. 17 was to spend time with a friend or family member. 18 to phone a friend or family member for a chat just because. Day 17: I had a quick visit with Barb and Stew. They dropped off some Cranberry Pudding and a bag of goodies for me for Christmas. Morag arrived ...
that smoker is adorable. our list of holiday expectations this year has taken a dive with the whole job search, lack of funds, and preparing to move back to Lawrence. I'm overwhelmed by all of that, so Christmas is getting short shift. The only decorations we have out are the line-up of Nutcrackers. I'll have to do it up big next year to make up for it.
My Christmas Stocking List
This is my Christmas Stocking list. No, it's not a wish list of gifts to buy for me. It's a list of things I would like to do before Christmas. Being that Christmas is less than a week away, these are not all happening. *marks the items done % marks Yeah, No, Not gonna happen Bright Nights at S...
This year - no tree at all. We're moving the week after Christmas. Long story. I'll catch you up next week.
O Christmas Tree
So my kids weren't on board with the smaller tree idea. Until we got one. Then it was declared 'cute' and 'sweet' and 'a baby tree!' and all is well. We got a 4' tree, set it in it's stand on a LACK table from IKEA, and even used our same tree skirt, just letting it hang. I quite like the ef...
CUTE!
I'm going to be burning the midnight oil in the next week +, I can tell. The kids always have fun with the wee santa and sleigh you sent us. I never quite know where I'll find him or what he'll have tucked in his sleigh.
Advent Calendar Day #13 - Make a Gift For a Friend
I haven't done much in the way of Christmas crafting this year. My heart has just not been in it. But last week i suddenly had this bright idea. A bright idea that needed 6 pairs of red infant or toddler socks and 6 pairs of white socks. Who knew how difficult that search would be. I never did f...
Quilts are daunting to me. I psych myself out before I even get started. At least you have rows....
a peek into the workshop
Since time and materials trump cash on hand this holiday season, here are two little things I've been working on and loving. First: This one is now done and I a.) wish it was for me, and 2.) wish they made the pattern in my size. I hope someone else likes it as much as I do. And second: I'...
I just don't have the patience for doll clothes..... those itty bitty seams. But how great that your girl still WANTS doll clothes. :)

I finally offloaded all the maternity patterns I bought and never made. It only took me 8 years. ;)

I really love Elf. My family watched it on Thanksgiving, and I saw bits and pieces, but I need to sit down and actually watch the whole thing through. And I'd like to watch Love Actually again. Wonder if it is on netflix instant....
Advent Calendar Day #12 - Watch a Christmas Movie
I have a basket full of Christmas movies: A Charlie Brown Christmas A Christmas Story* Bad Santa* Christmastime in South Park Elf Four Christmases How the Grinch Stole Christmas (animated) It's a Wonderful Life Love Actually* Miracle on 34th Street The Holiday* The Muppet Christmas Ca...
We had cinnamon rolls this morning for St. Lucia and of course we thought about you. :) Happy Day!
Ornaments & Stuff
I've been loving all the stamped ornaments on Pinterest (so many!) so a while back (this was last month, actually), the girl and I tried it out. We got paper clay from Hobby Lobby, which worked great. Easy to work with. And I bought a snowflake stamp. It pretty much worked how I was hoping. ...
She stole it from her dad. :)
their first museum pieces
My talented children. They created some artwork for an exhibit called "The Tallgrass Prairie And Me" at the Beach Museum. We went by and saw their work on display yesterday. Aidin had her first foray into watercolors. They burn the prairie every spring, so her painting shows the scorched pr...
I thought you might like those. ;)
(Although the fake fur was kind of a pain to cut - I was glad I only had six to make.)
mario magic
The boy's birthday party happened. It was loads of fun. And we all survived. I think this may have been one of the cheapest birthday parties we have ever held. We played Mario Kart. That was it. We had two tvs set up in our family room, with two wiis, a total of six controllers, and two c...
At least they don't chirp. :)
Advent Calendar Day #6 - Buy a New Decoration
I hate glass birds! I did not know that until recently. They scare me. One of my tasks during set up of the store was to display all the birds. Hundreds of them. They have clips, and feathers, and coils, and lots of glitter and they're made of glass. They were a nightmare to attach to the displa...
Yes, just perfect. Now, back to the afghan?
running with the cute
I took time away from frantic afghan crocheting to make a new window curtain for my kitchen. I've been hanging on to a 1/2 yard of this sweet kitchen fabric for a while now, and this was clearly why. I paired it with a tiny red gingham to make it long enough and to add some grounding to the prin...
I love your Quatchi under the tree! And yay! You took my profile pic suggestion. :) xo, Rach.
Advent Calendar Day #5 - O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree
Joanna and Deka came over this evening to help me decorate my Christmas tree. The little corner of my living room looks quite festive now. My decorations so do not have a cohesive theme or a colour scheme. Nor do I own any Christmas balls. Joanna and I noticed this fact, as we were hanging the d...
Yay! I love it. What color will the guest room be? Can't wait to see.
when in doubt, add butter
It was cookie baking weekend. Yesterday I went to the neighborhood cookie exchange, which was lovely. I have such nice neighbors. I brought two chocolate shortbread cookies - one batch with cocoa nibs and one batch of chocolate mint sandwich cookies. Both recipes were from my favorite baking b...
I know exactly what you mean about the breakage in storage. We are missing a stocking. Where could one little stocking go on it's own without the other three? All I've managed so far is to plant the paperwhites (a month ago - I couldn't wait), fill the advent calendar and string up a few lights outside. Yes, maybe tomorrow. Or not. Happy December.
It's December
Jane turned 12 on Friday. That's a lot of birthday candles. And kind of hard to believe, you know? She is such a sweet girl - kind, considerate, sensitive, funny, smart, creative. It's an amazing priviledge to watch her grow up. I'm grateful and blessed. She's such a bright spot in so ...
I'm debating putting up the Christmas tree this year, as we will probably move back to our old house (that still hasn't sold) between Christmas and new year. But I do love the special ornaments and nativities and santas that I've picked up in my travels and have been given by friends. Some of those are from you. :)
Advent Calendar Day #2 - Decorate
I couldn't bring myself to put the tree up and hang all the ornaments. It just seemed wrong (and lonely) to do the tree alone. So if anyone's around on Monday evening and wants to help me decorate my (fake) Christmas tree, I'll provide the bubbly and maybe some cookies. I did however get out som...
Like I need any more Christmas music.... but Michael Buble. Yum. Equally yum, that donut. I'll have to suggest that flavor to our new local donut shop.
Advent Calendar Day #1 - Listen to Christmas Music
Start The Christmas Season By Listening To Some Holiday Cheer. I have a shit load of Christmas music on CD's already, but for various reasons can't get said music onto my iPhone. I do have a very small selection of Christmas tunes already on my phone. It's an odd selection: Blue Christmas by E...
that looks fun!
Weehee, Ziptrekking
Shazza is not a fan of heights. Or so she says. So when I had a friend book is on the Eagle Tour with Ziptrek Ecotours in Whistler, I wasn't sure how she'd react. Their website describes our tour as: Five new ziplines including a 2000' awe inspiring monster that drops over 20 stories, make this...

goodbye November. it was fun.
Well, I did it. Almost - I missed the 23rd and didn't make it up like I meant to. I looked at these trees today on the bike path at the end of our street and saw that long line of posts like sturdy little soldiers. I think the daily posting has been really good for me - it has been so valuable...
Yes! She does look like Ava and I, too, want to smooch that face. Much love to your whole little family, Beki.
a sale, a winner & other stuff
Hi there! In celebration of the holiday season, I want to put everything on sale in my etsy shop. Use coupon code HOLIDAY11 to get 35% off. Right now all I have are patterns, but when time permits, I'll be listing all the bags I made throughout the summer, well the bags that I didn't decide ...
that photo of you jumping should be your new profile pic, Rach. :) xo
Whistler Winter Wonderland
Shazza and Kath had a lengthy list of places to visit while they where here - Victoria, Seattle, Whistler, Banff and Jasper. We didn't quite make it to Jasper or Banff, but we did make it to Whistler. Friends kindly lent us their condo and we woke up to a covering of the white stuff. I wanted t...
This is my job for tomorrow. Along with sewing Mario hats. :)
Pip & Ollie :: Advent Ideas
With this week being the start of December (!), the kids are SUPER anxious to get Pip the elf out of his box. If you haven't been around long, Pip the elf was a gift from Amy (who made one for her son, too). Every day in December until Christmas they hide and have a fun treat or activity for t...
But it looks so good with yellow. And grey. And red. And white. Hmmm.... reminds me of a quilt. xo
I love love love it.
going bold
People, you are probably getting tired of paint around here. I, however, am not. I went into the basement stash of paint colors (what? you don't have one of those?) and pulled out the leftover paint from my studio in Scottsdale. I had a light aqua and this one, which I think is more of a turq...
Huge downside of not hosting dinner - no leftovers. I got two pieces of pie, which I split with Tim for breakfast. Thats it. Oh, well. Maybe Ill buy a turkey next week when they are dirt cheap and make one of just us. :)
it's (black) Friday night again
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you had a wonderful celebration yesterday, surrounded by those you love. This was the first Thanksgiving in 14 years that we haven't hosted both families for dinner. It was a pleasant change to just bake a few pies and mash some sweet potatoes, and not worry about an...
