Never seen it here, but I do know that maple syrup is actually very good for you.
Has Anyone Tried This ??
Pure maple water !! I had not seen it or even heard of it till recently when I was strolling the gourmet food aisles in Harvey Nichols. I love maple syrup so would love to hear of anyone who has tasted this. It is made from the sap from maple trees, contains 46 various vitamins and nutrients, ...
Thanks for the Hotwire tip, Kate. Sounds handy and have noted it.
Caesar Hotel, London - a Secret Hotel Deal
Last week I spent four lovely nights in this hotel in Bayswater, London. It is a couple of blocks from Hyde Park and an easy walk to Portobello Rd and Notting Hill. In fact it is an easy walk to much of London or to a tube station that will take you further afield. I even walked to Harrods in ...
Gorgeous pics, Kate!
Rue Yves Saint Laurent - final
The far end of my street is all residential and once the last tourist has headed off into the sunset then the whole place changes pace and becomes calm and peaceful with barely a car or motor cyclist to be seen or heard !! The many cats and I can wander with no fear of being runover. Bou...
It's true that it is more expensive to live here in Australia, but I doubt that most Moroccan workers are paid an award wage, or even a wage slightly close to those paid to Australian workers. I guess we could drop our cost of living, but only at the expense of our much envied life-style.
Price Comparisons
I think Australia is a very, very expensive country to live in and I have been of that opinion for some time now. Over the past few years water, gas, electricity and petrol prices have risen astronomically with follow on price increases in food and other items. My salary , like most, barely ever...
Perfect timing - cleaning out my scarf drawer was on my list for today. Obviously, it is now top of my list, Must make room for new scarves.
Spoilt for Choice - part 2
I was drawn to a bright, bright pink 100% cashmere wrap with black fringing. Think soft and warm !! It is quite big and will be very versatile as a scarf, a shawl or even a throw. Cost was 250 DHM or $32.00 AUD or $28.00USD I am happy to take orders. Colours also on offer included black, deep...
The tagines look gorgeous, but how do you know if they have any lead in them? I believe that was a problem with imported tagines here a few years back.
Day Trip to Imlil - part 1
Yesterday four of us booked a driver and set out on an excursion to Imlil. This village is in the High Atlas Mountains and is 5,710 feet above sea level. It is a good hour and a half from Marrakech on some pretty bumpy single lane roads. It is a base for hikers and climbers so tourism is i...
It all looks very comfortable, Kate. Have you been doing any cooking yet?
Please, Come in !!
I have been in my apartment for nearly a week and love it . It is big and airy with great views. There have been a few plumbing isssues that have finally been sorted out but it has taken two days and many plumbers all conferring in Arabic whilst also in their mobile phones. But now, let me show ...
We caught the train from Fes to Marrakech and loved it too. But we did heed the warnings not to eat the train food and took our own!
Taking the Train
I was invited to attend a consular evening in Rabat for Australians living in Morocco. That's me for now I thought , so I set off. Rabat is the capital of Morocco and a 4 hour train trip from Marrakech. The station - Gare du Train - is new, contemporary and immaculate. The obligatory golden ar...

Oh, I love those pancakes!
Breakfast is Served
And served wherever you want - in bed, on the rooftop, in the downstairs courtyard or on the balcony outside your room. Nothing is too much trouble. There is always freshly squeezed orange juice, yogurt, {yesterday was pistachio flavoured, remember that Franny !!! }, cake freshly made, Mo...
Sigh. Gorgeous!
First Morning Pictures
When I arose I took myself on a little photo tour of my new place of work so all these were taken this morning at Riad Mur Akush
That Business Class ticket was a wise move. I'm still recovering from my 15 1/2 hour flight from Vancouver. Looking forward to you posts.
My Favourite F word would have to be.....
FLATBED !!!! Travelling business class is a very expensive habit of mine. I don't always indulge , in fact on my last three overseas trips I was down 'the back of the bus'. This time, to celebrate retirment, I purchased a Singapore Airlines business class ticket and it certainly made this lon...
I had the great good fortune to meet Paula about 12 months ago via Skype when I interviewed her for her new book. We talked and laughed for well over an hour and it is a memory I cherish, even though I'm pretty sure she has lost it.
She is a remarkable women and while her memory fades, her books will always be with us.
So Brave
Paula Wolfert has always been one of my heros. She has the best palate of anyone I've ever met, and her cookbooks are meticulously researched, beautifully written and completely reliable. I've been cooking from her books since I first discovered Couscous and other Good Food from Morocco in 19...
Glad to see you enjoyed some great Australian meals. We are very spoilt in this country when it comes to wonderful, fresh produce and talented chefs and it's nice to see the word getting around to the rest of the world.
Notes from Melbourne 1
My first taste of Melbourne: a plate of oysters at the counter at Cumulus. Brinier than any American oyster, crisper too, each one like a little gulp of the ocean. Hello! Cumulus is a lovely introduction to the food of this city. Casual and friendly, it takes its food (and its wine) very ser...
