The issue of staring is of some interest to me having studied paralinguistics (ie body language). My sister has a real antipathy when it comes to the German gaze! I'm always pointing out to her that being a quarter German and frequently being mistaken for Germans in holiday destinations we shouldn't mind....however! It's a trait that is also shared by the French, and (to my mind anyway) a lot of people travelling on the Tube in London...having lived in France for a year, I got over it and mastered the art of staring right back!

There are a number of statements in the article that certainly are not true, or skew the truth. Typing on my phone so not easy to dissect them all here! The thing is, it's not in the interests of a lot of governments or large corporations to accept that global warning is a man-made phenomenon. Apart from the environmental concerns noted by others above, there is one key thing that is almost never considered. The Earth's temperature and CO2 levels have fluctuated massively throughout the planet's existence, as have global temperatures. It's argued that we are going into an ice age, and that producing high CO2 levels will actually be useful in regulating the planet's temperature and holding back the ice age. I think the fact is: we really don't know. The key underlying issue is this. Will the human race survive either ice age, or global warming? Are we capable of effectively terraforming the planet to our requirements? Unfortunately, the human race's record as custodians of the Earth is pretty poor. We have massively reduced its biodiversity, our numbers are increasing to a point where the Earth probably can't sustain us. Basically, if the human race can't manage the situation, then it will quite possibly create a mass extinction for itself, or revert to a kind of dark ages. Many species have risen and fallen in the history of the planet, we simply may be the next to do so. Boy that's a bit heavy for a Sunday night!

Cheers, mate!
Probably best if someone drops them an email.
As so many people are having problems it seems as though this website probably needs to renew its certs or look at how expiry is set up - problems that can occur from the user's PC can be someting as simple as the computer's date and time being wrong, or by not keeping your browser or security up to date. As I say though, cos it's affecting diverse people I assume the problem's at this website.
Hi Jobob. Where you been? Not referring to some of our convos? Personally I thought you were a good mate until you decided to do some stirring between me and others on here. It's clear there are certain people who do and say one thing at this site and completely different things elsewhere...I'm willing to forgive and forget, but I have to say I don't take lying and insincerity all that well. I kind of like my friends to be honest.

I suspect such a thing doesn't exist. While it would be interesting to see, theatre is theatre and intended to be experienced directly, at that moment only, which (for me anyway) is just as it should be.

Having actually joined Goodreads cos a chum sent the link (it would never have happened otherwise), I did a bunch of ratings and reviews to get my reading recommendations, and subsequently I've dug out my copy of Pratchett's Night Watch and Iain Banks' Transition to reread again. Principally because in trying to review them, I realised I couldn't remember that much detail of either! I always need to read more than one book at the same time, it sort of helps me digest the content better, like main course and pudding, or a pint and a chaser!

I'm not unhappy with how the last movie went - the only things that got my back up was Kurtzman saying they dumbed down the physics so their wives could understand it, and reducing Uhura to something of a romantic prop. But I appreciate what they're doing to reinvigorate the whole thing. Apart from having all those other projects in the way, I think it probably was quite difficult for them to decide where they'd take the next one, so I'd rather they took the time they needed to focus on it properly and get it right. To do anything less would probably only achieve a disappointing outcome.

Di - that's interesting, as I'm sure B&Q also makes a big deal of providing wood and materials only from sustainable sources. (I was a member of Greenpeace for a lot of years myself)

Europe is a big place, y'know. The bags appear to be from Greenpeace, I guess it depends if they've arranged some sort of deal with a major retailer to sell or distribute them. A fair few of the major retailers however, would not be in concord with Greenpeace's aims and objectives...

Your brother sounds amazing Ambra. I think he could give this other chap a lesson in how to be - for want of a better description - a real man.
Seriously, Di, the man needs no help. They'd be down to his knees if he used that.

A note for those having zq withdrawal symptoms. In response to a question is there would be any live Q&A's from the set like last time, Orci has said it'll happen. You may yet get your fix... Continue reading
