The real cause of failure in schools is stress. Poverty is simply an extremely obvious source of stress. However, if you can alleviate the stress of the kids while at school in a way that spills over into how they deal with life in general, they can thrive academically in some surprisingly bad environments: http://kenchawkin.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/a-quiet-transformation.pdf

I just received a live phone call, a survey by a guy who didn't know who had employed him, who asked me about Raul Grijalva's connection to Ron Barber, as well as Ron Barber's support of the "failed Obama stimulus package, which 'wasted' $824 billion dollars," etc.

Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of the Transcendental Meditation organization, was encouraging his students to perform scientific measures on meditation as far back as 1959. His response to complaints that this was somehow a negative thing: Spiritual and Material Values "Every experience has its level of physiology, and so unbounded awareness has its own level of physiology which can be measured. Every aspect of life is integrated and connected with every other phase. When we talk of scientific measurements, it does not take away from the spiritual experience. We are not responsible for those times when spiritual experience was thought of as metaphysical. Everything is physical. Consciousness is the product of the functioning of the brain. Talking of scientific measurements is no damage to that wholeness of life which is present everywhere and which begins to be lived when the physiology is taking on a particular form. This is our understanding about spirituality: it is not on the level of faith --it is on the level of blood and bone and flesh and activity. It is measurable." -Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Pure Consciousness reports during Transcendental Meditation are correlated with extremely high alpha eeg coherence with virtually no gamma EEG whatsoever, so there are at least two radically different states competing for the title "pure consciousness": Research on the physiological correlates of pure consciousness found during TM practice: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7045911 Breath suspension during the transcendental meditation technique. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10512549 Pure consciousness: distinct phenomenological and physiological correlates of "consciousness itself". http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9009807 Autonomic patterns during respiratory suspensions: possible markers of Transcendental Consciousness. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10487785 Autonomic and EEG patterns during eyes-closed rest and transcendental meditation (TM) practice: the basis for a neural model of TM practice. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19862565 A self-referential default brain state: patterns of coherence, power, and eLORETA sources during eyes-closed rest and Transcendental Meditation practice. I agree with virtually everthing you say, BUT I think that given his friendship with two of those attacked, Dupnik went out of his way to condemn the message, not the messengers and made it clear that rhetoric from anyone that contributes to the problem is, well, contributing to the problem.
