Damn, Alice. This is a good one. Lots to chew on here. Baggage. Expectations. Damn.

That is one ugly-ass bottle.
An old trick. Probably happens a lot. Maybe Ficklin is having trouble selling the wine as port, so this is another revenue idea for them?
Nice post. Thoughtful email.
"Two perfectly poached delicious eggs that were laid that morning by hens fed on biodynamic hoax-like scraps..." Nice! Made me laugh out loud.

"Light," he has observed, "is at least as important, or more important than temperature, but few people ever talk about it." Amen to that.
Oh great! You just compelled me to watch 60 minutes of spanish TV. Love it! Amazing video!
"He crushes like most do, in a log that is hollowed out and that usually flows directly into the qvevri." Yes, that old chestnut! Great!

He's making a mockery of a sham. He must be stopped!
Biogenic amines. The lastest "problem" which can only be solved by purchasing a product from, unsurprisingly, the companies which have discovered the dire effects of biogenic amines and the dire consequences they cause. (Man, that stuff is EVERYWHERE! (Use our products!) Biogenic amines are the "restless leg syndrome" of the wine world. I'd put tannins, enzymes, yeasts, etc in the same category. Wholly unnecessary additives, assuming your grapes are healthy and full of life.

"heal the Planet"? Good luck with that. Shows a lot of arrogance there. BD, as an organized entity, is over. Finished. Done.
Great Post and VERY interesting video. Thanks!
Wow. Volcano on day 2. Jumping in the deep end. Next time in Volcano, try out the Union. Great place for lunch. Great folks. What's the next stop, Drytown Club?

I stand by my statement. Roundup brings a force of death to a vineyard (or farm). Why would you tolerate that? There are so many good alternatives, all that's needed is a change in philosophy.
If you cannot consume it directly, you shouldn't be spraying it on plants which you will consume. John - why do you think they teach you in chemistry class that everything is a chemical? Everything is a carcinogen. Cancer is a natural end-state for the human organism. Wine is one of the few things that humans produce which gives so much pleasure and stimulates so much thought and discussion. We should learn to appreciate that, and enjoy ourselves a little.
Oh sweet Jesus! I've been doing it WRONG the whole time!
Very, very nice! Thanks for posting this!
