Just finished watching the Opening Ceremonies for the Winter Olympics. As a member of a department who provides A/V Support for major events, my heart just dropped when the torch-lighting portion experienced a glitch. UGH! Unfortunately, as I know from personal experience, that one thing will be the thing that everyone focuses upon... and that is SO sad because the production was entertaining, inspiring, and fun! Fave parts were the aero-dancing dude and the Newfie step dancing-- whoohoo!! On a related note, the last Olympic Opening Ceremonies (August 2008) were viewed from a river-view hotel room on my wedding night.... Continue reading

Superbowl on the big screen, EastEnders on the laptop (with headphones, natch). Ahhh... heaven! Best if both worlds, you see...entertainment to fill the boring gameplay bits, and I don't miss The Who or the commercials!! Continue reading

Note to Amazon: Real people do not give a shit about your fight with Macmillan. Real people want to buy things. I tend to unplug over the weekend so I missed the Amazon / Macmillan smackdown. The above-linked article outlines it better than I ever could. Oh, and while I still lovelovelove my Kindle... I WANT AN iPAD!!! Continue reading

I've been Tweeting and FB'ing the Telethon for Haiti "Hope for Haiti Now" so to complete the trifecta (I firmly believe in the power of threes) this is my third plea: Donate NOW! Go to Hope for Haiti Now or my personal favorite, Doctors Without Borders and give what you can. Continue reading

So, I see this link that claims to have found the American city with the "worst street naming system ever" I'm intrigued, and click on the link. Here is the link. Click and go see for yourself. I'll wait. The funny part is that the city in question is the one that my maternal family hails from, and that I visited just a few weeks back. What are the chances? Oh, and I totally agree with the original link's message. Just look at that map! Seriously, WTH?!! Continue reading

Your result for The Nerd? Geek? or Dork? Test... Modern, Cool Nerd 52 % Nerd, 74% Geek, 26% Dork For The Record: A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia. A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one. A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions. It has been a crazy few months... Without going into a lot of detail, many circumstances and situations that I've either witnessed or been a party to have brought me to a place of deep retrospection as of late. Perhaps a smattering of "OMG I'm going to be 40 in a couple of months!" thrown in for good measure... At any rate, I've reached a decision. (here comes a sports analogy-- ready for it?) I've decided to enact a "three strikes and you're out" policy for the people in my life. Excluded from this rule will be family members-- you... Continue reading

My husband turns October into "31 Horror Movies in 31 Days", a series on YouTube. He actually watches and creates mini-video reviews of 31 of the crazy-worst horror movies you'll ever see. All in one month. Yep, it's FUN at our house in October! (not) Watch at http://www.youtube.com/watercooler And then keep me in your prayers...
