KT Spider Phone: Docks as laptop, tablet, and gaming console
Taking a cue from Motorola's Atrix, this phone can dock as a laptop, tablet, or gaming console (PSP style).
None of these docks extend processing or ram capacity... yet.

Training humans to use stupid passwords
From xkcd:
"Through 20 years of effort, we've successfully trained everyone to use passwords that are hard for humans to remember, but easy for computers to guess."
Yup. And stop asking me for my Mother's maiden name. SO not secure. Continue reading

iPhone vs Everyone Else: The Apps Trap
My First (not so) Smartphone A couple of years ago, I bought the Blackberry Storm 9530 (the first one). It was ok, even snappy... until I downloaded more than 2 apps on it. Apparently it wasn’t designed to hold very many apps (like 3, boo). Let’s Go Shopping! I’ll spare... Continue reading

Meanwhile, Microsoft is bringing us 'C3', an HTML/JS/CSS platform. No mention of 3d, unfortunately. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/beyond-the-browser-microsofts-c3-next-gen-platform-for-html-based-applications/9282?tag=content;feature-roto
WebGL vs. Flash: Build Once, Play Everywhere
Since the "The late 1970's", programmers have been striving to Write Once, Run Anywhere... Sun Microsystems is one of the more notable players to tilt at that windmill. It's a noble cause, and one HTML5 and CSS are striving toward as well. Both often suffer from the need to Write Once, Debug E...
Looks like Acer is on the job already: http://boomnews.info/review-exclusive-acer-iconia-tab-w500/
The W500 is a bit rough around the edges, but it may be a pre-cursor to that netbook-killer I am waiting for.
Tablet OS Battle: iOS, Android, Blackberry vs Windows & Ubuntu
It’s apropos that “Tablet” is an anagram for “Battle”. This is “the year of the iPad 2”, according to a typically humble statement by Steve Jobs. Motorola’s Xoom wins in specs, but it's real world performance doesn’t exactly leave the iPad 2 in the dust. In fact when it comes to graphics ...
It's funny, I had almost the opposite experience. I had high hopes for the iPad. I was hoping it would be the netbook killer, the only device I would have to take with me on those long flights.
I totally understand the success and strength of the iPad and it's ilk as casual, media and entertainment devices.
What I really find frustrating is that these devices are so limited in what they can do... especially since it seems to be the result of intentional design. I don't expect that they would replace our much faster desktop replacement laptops(like the HP EliteBook 8540w). I'll still haul that 7 pound monster with me on trips(for it's speed and strength).
Maybe I am asking too much: Bring me a netbook killer in a slim, touchscreen interface!
P.S. Thanks for reading and commenting Scott!

Great post! I've made a pretty extensive list of the WebGL Engines available, for anyone interested: http://ffwd.typepad.com/blog/2011/04/webgl-what-flavor-is-your-engine.html

3D on the Web: Look Ma, no plugins!
I have been interested (obsessed, actually) with the idea of navigating and interacting with 3D worlds on the Web since the early days of VRML. Navigating and interacting with 3D on the internet has a long, torturous history. The solutions have fallen basically into two camps, both with their st...
