As far as the alternate is concerned, I think it is Melzer, since he's already there as one of the top 8 doubles competing.
Master ace, am I correct ?
Cupcake Wars
by Pete Bodo So let's agree to call them the Cupcake Wars—you know, that pre-tournament ritual of claiming that your favorite player has been frowned upon by the gods of chance, while his rival had bestowed upon him not merely a smile but an enormous, toothy grin. When you're a combatant in the ...
Mike, a fair warning, be careful what you say.
We love that pesky Spanish Guy ! He's like family to us ! lol
News of the Day: The Backsliders
by Pete Bodo Venus Williams wasn't the only WTA star and former Grand Slam champion to end her year on a down note. The decision to end her 2010 campaign, effective immediately, is the back end of a tough one-two punch that the WTA has had to absorb in the last few days. The women also took ...
OK, it's official. Let the Fedal war begin !!! :)
Second Half Kickoff
Maybe you’ve forgotten this; maybe you’ve conveniently forgotten it. But I’m on a roll when it comes to picks. Granted, it’s a short roll, consisting of one tournament, Wimbledon. And granted, I earned it by having the foresight to predict that the two No. 1 players in the world, Rafael Nadal...
"Temes I am with you on wanting Sod to win. Let us end the Nadal/Federer duopoly now. Come on Sod, you can do it *ducks flying shoes and brooms*"
Jamaica Karen, as a Rafa fan, I don't throw shoes and brooms. It's boulder and cars I can hurl esp during these tense moments..........lol. Good morning by the way :)
Hi Pete, hope you can periodically update us - re: weather
The Sky Above
by Pete Bodo I was down at breakfast this morning in the hotel, trying too finish Robert Parker's novel, Brimstone, when the gray skies opened up and the rain came down in buckets. My first thought was of. . . Rafael Nadal. That's how far we've come. Never has so much been made of the met...
It seems that Tim is hugging the limelight huh. Well, I'm a Rafa fan and I find his taunts and posts amusing and funny at times. They are actually very timid compared to the posts you will see on other sites i.e. espn etc. Just laugh with/at him because we (rafa fans) know too well that deep inside he is scared of the moonballs, something to do with the one who lost i guess.
The Spartan Believer
by Pete Bodo Well, it wasn't exactly Borg vs. McEnroe, Wimbledon 1980, but Sam Stosur and Jelena Jankovic played an entertaining and meaningful tiebreaker this evening under restless, roiled skies in breezy Miami. It ended badly for Jankovic, the No. 7 seed and winner at Indian Wells last week...
Tfactor... productive? meaning sleep? I think I'll do the same.

With the Barclay's ATP World Tour Finals, aka the WTF (that's for you NISAJs, or Naughty Internet Shorthand and Acronym Junkies), just around the corner, I want to call your attention to the fact that it's "Finals" with an "s," thanks to the doubles championship that will also be decided in ...

Good mornin', everyone. I'm here extra early because I'll be long gone by the time you read this; deer season in upstate New York opens Saturday, and my freezer is empty of venison. You'll have a place to gather and talk every day over the weekend, though. Tomorrow morning I'll share some news ...

Listened to the podcast and they really thrash verdasco huh. i know he has a poor record against them top 7 but i hope he proves them wrong and be a darkhorse just to prove his mettle. if my favourites are not playing, he's my neutral player

I do like this TW thread better than others (ie espn tennis thread, etc). there's a lot of bashing out there. it seems a lot friendlier here.

thebigapple.... sorry, you will have to google it because I'm not too eloquent to explain without sounding ?what's the word. I might get a "demerit" as per AM and Mr X discussion or even be banned, lol.
re: nole's change of apparel...that's a shame. i do buy some of his adidas products because i like the way it look on him, thinking i might generate the same look..which most times i

Murray seem to be getting a lot attention this TW time.
Well I'm not a fan but do believe in Murray's tennis acumen. I believe he is one of the smartest players on the court and has the ability to execute his game. He's not just a ball basher. If James Blake or Gonzo the Forehando have Murray's tennis brains, they will do better in the slams.

Resurgent Insurgencies
by Pete Bodo Howdy. Over the next few days, I'll be looking at the players nd match-ups in the upcoming Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Y'all know the groups inside-out, and are aware of the most compelling match-up of round robin play: Andy Murray vs. Roger Federer. Del Potro fans might ta...

Crisis Center Day 7
Morning, all. Pete will probably be along later, but this is a kick off for a discussion thread on Day 7's play. -- Andrew Burton As at 9:20pm ET, an Overflow post is up - Andrew Overflow
pete, I agree with Ross. and besides Lapentti, maybe you can also pay tribute to the "Magician" Santoro and Safin for their character and the uniqueness of their game. They did make the tennis world more interesting and fun.
To the veterans, I salute!!
Hitting All the High Notes
by Pete Bodo Moments after Vania King shocked Slammin' Sammy Stosur on the Grandstand court at the US Open late this afternoon, a dozen teen-aged boys began to leap around, waving their arms, calling out, "Vania, Vania!" She glanced their way, and one shouted, "Wristband!" Whereupon King swiftl...

Cincy Preview: Big Four Strike Back?
Feels like old times, doesn't it? Old times as in January 2009, that is, a point in the season when many of us asked whether Andy Murray and Jelena Jankovic were on the verge of winning their first majors. Murray came to the Australian Open playing the best tennis in the world, while Jankovi...

The Rafa Rules
If Rafael Nadal vs. Novak Djokovic isn’t the game’s greatest rivalry, or even a rivalry at all by the standard definition of the word—Nadal currently leads their head-to-head 13-4—this spring it has certainly become the tour’s most absorbing adversarial relationship. The length, breadth, diver...
