Every year, about this time, I have minor heart palpitations about all the work that has to be done in the garden, and in the kitchen. I start daydreaming about vacationing on Pacific islands, or running away with a band of gypsies. The garden is beyond unruly - and absolutely... Continue reading

I celebrated my forty-first birthday this weekend. I spent the first half of my day with this dear one, on a Mamas Only adventure. A winding trail, a summit with a cool breeze and sweeping vistas, lunch eaten in the middle of a creek, good conversations, and a bit of... Continue reading

Lovely! We just pulled our garlic, too. And similarly, I didn't keep track of how much we planted/pulled but it's the most we've ever harvested. Today is all about canning & pickling - dilly beans, some lemon cucumbers and beets, mostly. All of a sudden everything is IN! The tomatoes are coming slowly, we're eating at least a few everyday. Love midsummer in the garden! Enjoy! http://www.littlecoffeebeans.com/blog/2015/07/around-the-garden-midsummer-notes.html

I met her when I was five. The first thing I noticed was her smile. It was as wide and bright as a rainbow, and inside it held a little golden tooth. I immediately loved her. My parents had just divorced and she was mommy’s new roommate. She was beautiful,... Continue reading

It started the other night after dinner. We all headed out to the garden, and as I settled into my chair, I offered the Girl my camera for the first time. My Nikon. She looked intimidated, but I secured the strap around her shoulders, showed her the shutter release button,... Continue reading

You guys. I love making these rope baskets! As soon as I saw them, popping up around the blog-sphere, I just knew I'd have to dive in. I bought a few skeins of rope from my local hardware store, and set right to playing around with different stitches, shapes, handles,... Continue reading

From the garden ~ mixed greens, topped with a spicy cabbage slaw. From the slow cooker ~ yellow split peas seasoned with onion, garlic, bay leaf, cumin, celery seed, a jar of last year's canned tomatoes. Served with a side of greek yogurt, and apple slices for the kids. We... Continue reading

Stacey, I'd love to!
Jill, spraying the plants with copper will help keep the blight at bay. Check with you local gardening center.
