Harbor Homes, a non-profit organization in Nashua, NH, received a $25,000 grant from the Bank of America Foundation to help end homelessness in Greater Nashua and NH. Funds will be used to ensure that housing, health care, and other services needed by more than 5,000 vulnerable NH community members continue, especially in the wake of Covid-19, supporting the entire continuum of Harbor Homes’ housing services—from street outreach and temporary housing to case management and permanent homes. Harbor Homes works with all individuals and families experiencing homelessness, but especially veterans and others community members at the greatest risk of chronic homelessness, such as those living with behavioral health disorders and HIV/ AIDS. As part of New Hampshire’s Medicaid expansion program, the state implemented an individual compliance obligation for each beneficiary to remain eligible for health insurance. The McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center will resume its monthly Super Stellar Friday series in June, in a new virtual format. At 7 PM on Friday, June 5, Discovery Center Educator and Astronomy Instructor Dave McDonald will give a live presentation, Unveiling the Mysteries of the Solstice,via a Zoom webinar. McDonald will discuss the causes and significance of the solstice, how this celestial event is related to constellations and zodiac symbols, and more. Following the presentation, McDonald will answer audience questions in a Q & A session. Online registration is required to access the presentation; see the museum’s website, starhop.com, to register and submit questions in advance. This event is free, but donations are welcome. A new study out today from the Kaiser Family Foundation determined that 27 million Americans have likely lost their health care since the start of the coronavirus crisis. That number, on top of millions of Americans already uninsured creates a dangerous situation for the country reeling from a global pandemic. Kaiser concluded that more than 20 million of those newly-uninsured individuals are eligible for coverage under the ACA or Medicaid. But if the Trump-Republican lawsuit currently before the Supreme Court to overturn the ACA is successful, those 20 million uninsured will no longer have access to ACA subsidies or coverage under Medicaid expansion.
