Celebrating 500 Posts on TypePad
Saturday, September 11 2004 I'm brand new to blog and TypePad...Hope I'm doing fine . It's been a quiet day ....my last leisure Saturday before lessons start on Monday. And it's going to be hectic then ! I do hope I'm going to make time daily to drop a line in here ...Anyway, I'm not sure how...
If you don't like your taramosalata very salty, you can use dried bread for toast instead of potatoes. That's what I do. 6-7 big slices are enough for 250 gr of tarama. I soak them in cold water and squeeze them well before blending them with the tarama.
Monday's Greek Recipe: Taramosalata
A. The Greek Dips The Greeks love to have some dips for starters or even before starters such as taramosalata, meltzanosalata, tzatziki or tahini as they prepare the palate for what is to follow. Although most of these dips are available at supermarkets, they can't equal the homemade ones. Besid...
That's a great tool, Anastasia. Technology should be part of the education of our children - especially when learning a foreign language.
My Interactive Whiteboard
For a long time now, I've been looking forward to having an interactive whiteboard in my classroom. Considering that I run a small language school of about 100 students where I am my own boss and the only teacher, having an interactive whitebord was what some people would call wishful thinki...
I was wondering what to cook for lunch today and you've just given me a bright idea. Aubergines are great at this time of year and a healthy option too. So I'm off to the supermarket to get my aubergines.
Monday's Greek Recipe- Melitzanes Imambaildi
Melitzanes Imambaildi - Baked Aubergines Stuffed with Tomato Sauce - is of Turkish origin and was brought to Greece by the Greeks of Asia Minor after the exodus in 1922. My grandfather was one of them. When he married my grandmother in 1934 he set a condition: "I love you dearly", he told he...
I find Larnaca a very peaceful and relaxing town and I often come even for just a while to breathe some fresh air by the sea, have a swim or simply have a frappe at one of the lovely cafes at Finikoudes. It's only a 30-minute drive from Nicosia and it's worth it. I always return feeling refreshed. You are lucky to live there.
Welcome to Larnaca - A Virtual Tour
Larnaca is a small town of about 70,000 inhabitants situated on the southern coast of the island of Cyprus. When I first came to live here in November 1984, it looked like the middle of no where! People would stare at me as if I were an alien just because I I was different from them. Back to the...
I personally liked the UK song much more than the one from Iceland - both were ballads - yet Iceland came 2nd and the UK 5th. I suppose televoting is quite unpredictable...
Eurovision Song Contest 2009 - The Grand Final
The Eurovision Song Contest has been by far Europe's most favourite TV show for 53 years now. It is also the world's longest TV show! After more than 5 decades, featuring some 1,100 songs, the contest has become a modern classic strongly embedded into Europe's collective mind. The 54th Euro...

Eurovision 2009 Countdown!
The Eurovision Songcontest will be held in Russia following its victory in the 2008 contest in Belgrade, Serbia with Dima Bilan's "Believe". Despite the unwillingness of the Mayor of Moscow to hold the contest in the city,[4] Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia, eventually stated that the c...
I watched the first semi final on Tuesday, so I haven't seen all the songs yet except Greece and Cyprus on Youtube. Tonight it's the second semi final, so I'll tell you my top ten tomorrow. I also liked Greece, Island and Malta but I honestly did not like our song!

It was really nice you could get away for a while - I imagine how hectic the end of a school-year can be! Lefkara is one of my favourite villages in Cyprus as one of my uncles still lives there. Whenever we visit, his wife cooks for us the famous ttavas lefkaritikos. Last year, I purchased an embroidered bed cover - to me it's an investment in a great work of art.
Lefkara
Just after the Easter break, Labour's Day was a very pleasant day off in an otherwise hectic school term - the last term of 2008-2009 school year. For most people in Europe it is also a long weekend, not for me , though, as I start workearly in the morning tomorrow. So we couldn't get away fo...

God gave us life and only He can take it back - whenever He decides. And then you never know the will of God. Miracles do happen like in the case of my father who was in a coma for about a year after a terrible car crash. My siblings wanted us to pay a doctor and euthanase him after he had spent 6 months in a coma. But I refused. I kept visiting him every day and spent time talking to him, encouraging him. I could feel he could hear me. One day, on my regular visit, a doctor came to me and said: "Your father has recovered". Even the doctors were unable to scientifically explain this recovery. I agree with Andy and I believe in palliative care.
Euthanasia
As we all know, the heart is the organ which supplies the body's tissues with blood. For a long time, the definition of death as the arrest of heart action and irreversible breakdown of respiration was considered a fact that did not require legal definition. With the advances in medical technolo...
I've been on multiply for quite some time now, but I don't feel happy there, so I'm considering moving to Blogger. I think that for a free site it offers a lot of cool tools.
Typepad Vs Blogger
Now that I'm off work due to our Easter break, I have some more free time to surf the Net and learn things. To my surprise, I found out about the dispute between Typepad and Blogger. When my friend Constantinos invited me to contribute to his blog on Blogger as a guest author, I had second th...
That's a brilliant video, Anastasia mou. Thank you for sharing. I attend the Epitaphios service every year and when I hear the Egomia, I feel deeply touched but also glad to look forward to the Resurrection and Easter.
The Passion : Epitaphios
Holy Friday is a day of mourning, fasting and prayer. Friday morning services retell the story of Christ's passion with the addition of prophecies, psalms and hymns. These services or "Royal Hours" help us keep vigil at the side of the crucified Christ, and relate Jesus' suffering to our ...
I didn't know it was your birthday! Just seen it in the comments. Belated happy birthday my dear friend - wishing you always the very best in life. It's been ages I haven't been to Polis - a lot must have changed I suppose.
Weekend Away
I have the impression that since Christmas, time has just flown by. The second school term has just come to an end and then it's Easter before you know it. It was a long and difficult term with hardly any breaks requiring long working hours in my effort to improve my students' performance as...
Stefanie is right. Maternity is a miracle and abortion is a crime. In case the baby is still unwanted after it's born,it can be given for adoption. There are many childless couples who would be so willing to offer that baby love and affection
Abortion
An abortion is the termination of a pregnancy before the fetus is viable, or capable of living outside the womb. An abortion may be spontaneous or induced. The latter is an act with ethical and legal ramifications.Spontaneous abortion occurs when the embryo fails to develop, when there is com...
