you're a good egg, sara thanks for sharing a little bit of your life here. love and peace to you and your sweethearts, aprill xoxo
goodbye
We are all very well. I'm sorry that so many of you have been concerned about us. We had a wonderfully busy and bountiful summer on the farm. I honestly didn't intend on taking so many days away from the blog, but one day led to two and so on and so forth and as quickly as time c...
they are beauties! i love that pattern.
Lacy Baktus(es)
Or is it Bakti? Well, I have two of them completed. I have said it before and I will say it again (and again in the future), this pattern is great. I adore it. It is really the perfect travelling project and also the perfect excuse to buy great sock yarn that you may have a hard time justifyin...
aren't the anemones mesmerizing? i love them.
where'd you wind up going for yarn?
The First Leg of the Trip
I promise, after today, I will not go on and on about how awesome our two week vacation was. This was by far the longest trip we have ever taken and that first week was jam packed. After our friend's memorial we headed south to Freeport and camped at Recompence Shore Campground. If you are looki...
yes! i have been thinking about it! i really want to aim for next year! xoxo
weekend plus
i feel like my weekend got a little extra added on to it because the girls and i got to meet and hang out with leah and her beautiful family on monday. it was such a treat. she and i were bad bloggers though, because the cameras never came out. thanks again for meeting up, leah! over the wee...
happy belated birthday, annika!!
i have to tell you, sarah, this post made me tear up. your 9 yr and my 9 yr sound so very similar, it's almost as if you are describing my girl here.
belated
She is nine. She turned nine a week ago while we were at the beach. We feted her with spaghetti and with chocolate mint mousse cake. I was stopped in my tracks when she mentioned being ten next year. Oh, this girl. She is my all-or-nothing, black-or-white, up-is-down and down-is-up, full of l...

beautiful. i feel touched by lynn's life in my small way. it was an honor to spin her sheeps' wool. maybe i'll get to see that scarf this week? xo
In Honor of Lynn
We have a friend that has been a part of our family since my mother was a young girl. Throughout my own childhood she travelled alone to be with us for special occassions. And when the time came for Matt and I to get married we could think of no better person to perform the ceremony than Lynn. D...
i really enjoy travelling vicariously through you!
spring rewind, part one.
It's funny, I find myself getting frustrated pretty regularly about not posting photos more often. Especially travel photos, as travel is a pretty big priority in my life. Then I realize how many photos I take when I travel, and when I sit down to edit/tag/post said photos, I remember why I do...

thanks leah!
the dyeing was so fun. i think i'll get her into doing some solar dyeing with it next!
kid friendly dyeing
kool-aid + freshly washed wool fleece + fairly-independent-in-the-kitchen 9 yr old = rainy day fun. i started dyeing wool by playing with kool aid and recycled sweater wool some 6 and 1/2 yrs ago, before moving on to acid dyes and spinning my own yarn. i had forgotten how fun these col...
thanks sonya! :)
more rainy* day dispatches
the garden is not complaining. and neither is this little bird. however, the gray weather means that everything is taking foooorrrrever to dry. my work room looks like one big drying rack right now. after hitting the dyepots all weekend, i'm getting impatient. (and my drum carder is too...

i have been really hard on myself lately because i have similar feelings about my time management skills and what little (i feel) i have to show for myself, productivity-wise. i have to constantly remind myself that it's never a good idea to compare myself to others, but the internet makes that really hard!
i love all the red!
Red
something's been bugging me lately. nothing too serious. just a little nagging thing. i have no idea where all of my time goes. i work a regular 40 hour a week job with some commuting time but since i've been living in the city, it's probably no more than an hour or two tops a day. i do...
it's the merchant company!

it's *really* beautiful, grace!!! (and i love that we are getting to see your back log of knits. i always feel like if i don't photograph it when it's fresh off the needles that it has some kind of expiration date, which is silly, i know.)
Last autumn's knits, part 2
Next up in the series of sweaters that I meant to complete by last fall is James's sweet cardigan. I began his first of the three and I had actually finished knitting it in plenty of time for my self-imposed November deadline. But it had a lot of seaming (in my lazy opinion) and so many ends...

Around the Farm
Good stuff is growing around the farm these days, which makes for the most excellent meals! This is the area that the sheep and goats over-grazed, and then the chickens scratched up (I posted about it here). The chickens worked at their scratching here for about 3 weeks, and did a mighty ...

it's coming along, so i wanted to join in sara's thursday "around the farm/garden". we have lots of greens coming up. we planted tatsoi for the 1st time this year, plus a mesclun mix, kale, rainbow chard, radishes, carrots, beets,... Continue reading

you aren't boring me! :D
Four Sheep Sheared
Am I boring you with all this shearing talk? Can you tell how excited I am to have figured this out? It was a dream of mine for so long to be able to raise sheep, shear them, and turn their wool fleeces into clothing for my family; so this is big. A dream come true. So exciting. So gratifying. A...
