We Italians are pepper fanatics, too! Sausage and peppers (green and red in my house) is a favorite, and of course stuffed bell peppers.
I love this photo- Mike is a very talented photographer and still modest inspite of it. You should see his fireworks shots! (on his site, too)

Peppers R Us - A Giveaway
I celebrated my 4th blogging anniversary (blogaversary?) at the beginning of this month. I appreciate that so many of you sent congratulatory emails and posted here and wrote happy things on my Facebook wall. It was very cool to receive all the good wishes and all that, but my friend, Cigar Mike...
I feel your pain, in a backwards sort of way. I had poker straight hair until I was 32. Then it got curly. Specifically, Jon Bon Jovi circa 1987 curly. Once I got it layered the day before I turned 40 it was a lot easier to tame. Otherwise, I get mobbed outside by the groupies. :-)
The Taming of the Do - The Movie
Hi. I’m Marta and I have naturally curly hair. (“Hi, Marta.”) I know my hair looks smooth and straight in all the photos you've ever seen of me, but that's because I go through great pains and pay big bucks to get it done. And I realized as I was writing this that I started straightening it abou...
Boo, why couldn't your trip have coincided with mine? I hope you're having a blast!

Abre que voy!
I'm having one of those accidentally cool things happening that happens to me occasionally because I live in a fun bloggy world. I am traveling to Miami for Blogalicious Weekend 2010. Celebrating Diversity in Social Media. (The words celebrating and social seem like they describe me perfectly. A...
First I love that pumpkin cake! Can you come here and do a giant mermaid cake for 100 for my daughter's quinceañera?
The games. As a teen, my family and I used to play Balderdash- still my favorite game. My parents are vocabulary buffs so it was always so much fun!
Now I play Apples to Apples with my kids. It's a hoot!
I was a bit of a Yahtzee nerd, too. I've played a similar game online. What can I say- I majored in language!
Pumpkins and Games and Googly Eyes - Oh My! (A Giveaway)
Yep, I'm still writing about Betty Crocker. I warned you I had a lot to share! Again, I want to reiterate that spending those few days with a group of proactive, excited bloggers in the Betty Crocker Kitchens will definitely be one of the highlights of my life. Seriously. I think maybe because a...
What a nice thing to giveaway!
My little Sicilian grandmother taught me to cook and bake(though I avoid the latter especially since my 15 year old loves to bake from scratch and I can't afford to even sniff what I bake) and my mom is my go to chef for pretty much every basic cooking question I've ever had. There's not much I can't make (or won't).
Ps Chipper chicken was also the term used in Farher of the Bride by Martin Short. LOL!!
Chipper Chicken Recipe and a Giveaway
My mom taught us girls how to cook when we were very young. During the summers, when my sisters and I were out of school, she devised a rotating system of teaching us Homemaking, the Cuban Way. My older sisters were already married and gone, but the three of us younger ones, Miriam, Alina and my...
This is impressive work! I spent every summer of my childhood at the beach and we never made one of those gargantuan castles- I was always so jealous of the kids who could do that! But when I think about my beach memories, they all revolve around my dad- he was the one who body-surfed with me, built (small!) castles with me, took me in to the water to where we'd get whistled back in.... thanks for making me smile.

Seeing worlds in a grain of sand...
As you know, my childhood summers always involved the beach somehow. From the perfection that is Varadero to the surf in Santa Monica, every summer that I can recall was spent at the beach. Of the many happy beach memories I have, however, one trumps them all. I still remember the magical momen...
Happy belated to your little Lucy!
Seventeen
She is completely present when she speaks to you. That is, unless she's spacing out. She has lots of great ideas. But isn't always willing to share them. She is beautifully feminine. And yet, she holds her own with the big boys. She wants to do everything, go everywhere, experience it all! Excep...
You're my favorite mom blog! ♥♥♥
Link Love
I've been blogging here at MBFCF for almost four years (Wow! That's like high school!) now. I love blogging as an a creative outlet. Not only because it's my blog and I can write pretty much whatever I want, but also because I get feedback. And for the most part, that feedback is positive, which...
Omg how beautiful is it to love and be in love like this!! Your devotion to each other and dare I say, mutual adoration, is inspirational. Thanks for the sniffles! May you have many, many more years of wedded bliss!
Mrs. Eric Darby
I have had the happy privilege of being Mrs. Eric Darby for the past 18 years now. We got married on August 8th, 1992. Some of our anniversary celebrations have been simple. I cook, the kids toast us, we kiss. A good time was had by all. On a few of our anniversaries we've managed to escape for ...
Congratulations Aida, I hope the print will look great in your kitchen!
Marta, what a fun time we had over here laughing over the posts- so many variations of coffee! And sorry I made you cry but now we're even! :)
Thanks for organizing this and to your readers for your kind comments and for sharing some of your cafe-related "cubanía" with me.
Thanks also to those of you who have placed orders over the weekend for the print and notecards.
un abrazo a todos,
Claudia
Cafecito print - a winner.
Wow. I had no idea so many of you MBFCF readers were such coffee snobs! (I mean that in the best way possible, of course.) Seriously, go back and read the comments on the Of Jedi and Cafecitos post. You'll be blown away by the many ways there are to "do" coffee. You know I could only choose one...
P.S. There is a separate code for the 20% discount for greeting and note cards. Use E942AF61 for those and E8FD4B6E for the prints.
Of Jedi and Cafecitos - a Giveaway
So, a few weeks ago I'm cruising through my Facebook page and I left a comment on one of my daughter's (Amy Kikita) posts. I think she was complaining that she needed a late afternoon cafecito. (I think that's what it was, because she's always saying that in the late afternoon, but that's not im...

Marta Wan Kenarby you are great for my ego. (But you always have been!) I am so happy you like the print and honored that you would want to display it in your home, my dear friend. Thank you for the over the top comments and I hope the winner enjoys the print as much as you do.
That cafetera I took the picture of used to belong to my parents. After Alberto (de la Cruz) bought me my first Cuban coffee (evah!) at the little Versailles window some years ago, I started drinking coffee for the first time in my life- but ONLY espresso. My parents gave me the cafetera, which they had for about 30 years.
Now you can think of me every time you pass by the photo on your wall, in case our text messages aren't enough. :)
Thank you to everyone who said they like this print. Shucks, and to think I took it just to show off my birthday present tacitas last year!
