Two of my most favorite people in the whole world. My kids. See the smiles? You can't see my smile behind the camera. They are my world, when they are happy, I am happy. When they are sad, mom is sad. This day was a happy warm day at the... Continue reading

What an AWESOME week of TERRIFIC warm weather we have been having. March has been kind to us yoopers so far. Cole and I couldn't resist the sunshine today. We made our way to grandma and grandpa's house across the street and onto their big playing field...the one that only... Continue reading

We seem to have a new neighbor next door. I spotted this cute little guy (or girl?) while eating lunch the other day at our dining room table. He was in the small ravine outside our patio door...about 20 feet away from the house. He appeared to be sunning himself... Continue reading

With winter lasting up to 6 months (seriously) in the U.P. of Michigan we have to find some way to have fun out in the white stuff in order to stay sane, including some winter picnics. On this day we made a roaring fire, pulled out the lawn chairs, and... Continue reading

Cole is in first year developing mites this year. What a hoot to watch this 5 year olds learn the basics of hockey. The first day back in November, many of them could hardly stay on their skates. Each week they quickly progressed. This photo was taken at a hockey... Continue reading

Unfortunately at this time I will not be able to continue blogging on typepad. My work situation has changed, I am going from basically a stay at home mom to a 40 hour a week working girl! With my new work schedule and my family's needs my blog will suffer greatly. I don't have a computer at home (use my mom's) so it is not something I can do anytime. I have had a lot of fun blogging, and will come back to it when my life settles down a bit. I may be blogging at blogspot posting occassionally...I will... Continue reading

I was flipping through the online photo album reminiscing today...I can't believe how fast my kids are growing up. Cole is now a little boy, no longer a baby, or even a toddler. No more chubby cheeks or pudgy legs. He will always have his beautiful big blue eyes. He will always call me mom. I miss that little toddler, but I sure enjoy the big kid he has become. Age 16 months Age 2 Age 3 Age 4 Now at age 5 Continue reading

Sunday was a beautiful late fall day in the Keweenaw. After two cancellations (one due to rain, the next to snow) my church finally was able to have our annual hayride and potluck. A church member hosted the get together at her farm. The food was delicious (burgers, hotdogs, salads, goodies), but the highlight of the day was the hayride out to the fields to pick apples for making apple cider. Cole and Brynn both helped to pick apples. Brynn got a helping hand from our friend and tractor driver! The highlight for Cole and many other kids was the... Continue reading

Saturday Cole and I visited the local pumpkin farm and corn maze with my niece and her mom. We arrived in a downpour. Luckily the farm had a huge circus type tent set up, and we huddled in there amongst the pumpkins until a patch of blue sky lured us out. For $5 we were given a rough map of the cornmaze, along with a dollop of confusion as we navigated our way through. The object was to find 5 paper punches located on stakes within the maze. Once we found a puncher, we were to punch our paper as... Continue reading

I volunteered for my son's kindergarten classroom today for the first time. Oh my is that a busy room! Three tables line one side of the class for kids to do their work at. In the middle of the room is a nice big colorful carpet where the kids have circle time. Along the far wall is a fish tank with a big fat frog in it. Another large tank is for a lizard, who unfortunately passed away two weeks ago! Colorful pictures the kids have made cover the walls. The room is a buzz of activity! There were 2... Continue reading

Yippy! The sun has returned after 3 days of sleet, snow, and gloom. Brynn and I took advantage of the beautiful morning and went for a walk while Cole was at school. Come take a stroll with us! Our first stop was the mud puddles just outside our door. Gotta wear your mud boots! The dew in these pine trees glistened like diamonds! This tree was alive with colors! We liked this dewy leaf in our driveway. Thanks for walking with us......see you next time! Continue reading

That wonderfully hilarious mother nature has brought a few inches of snow to the copper country over the weekend. She sure likes to mix it up...60 degree weather through much of our summer, beautiful sun and 70's during September, and now in early October we have our first snowfall. Honestly, if the sun would brighten our day, it would be beautiful. Gorgeous hews of gold, orange and red in the trees and a blanket of white snow covering the browning grass. Continue reading

This is my sweet little Brynny all dressed up and ready to go to the Strawberry Festival in my hometown of Chassell, Michigan. She had to wear pink...a day isn't right for Brynn unless you have pink, in some shade, somewhere on your body. A baby to carry and hug is a permanent accessory. The shades, the cup, the binoculars--who knows why she needed those that day! I often wonder if she knows just how sweet she is. Does she know how much I love her? I sure hope so. Continue reading

In my kids minds simple things become grand.... a seagull is an eagle a dandelion is a beautiful flower a playground is an amusement park a plastic tea set is fit for the queen a walk on the nature trail is the amazon jungle the swing is an airplane Lake Superior is the ocean the ottoman is a train a stick is a light saber Their minds are amazing...don't underestimate them! Boy this moment sure gave me flashbacks to my childhood. I had to quickly snap a photo of this simple moment...a simple moment that quickly became a lasting memory in my mind. My wonderful mother let my 22 month old bake an apple bar with her a few days ago. Brynn had so much fun helping grandma measure ingredients and pour them into the mixing bowl. Her job was also to push over the button to make the mixer start. At one point, my mom was distracted by Cole, who had asked for a glass of milk. As my mom... Continue reading

Days are getting shorter, and the sun is a bit more to the south. We've had a terribly cool summer and the vegetable plants are not producing a whole lot. My tomato plant looked like an octopus..lots of limbs everywhere, many blossoms, but no fruit to be seen. As it was now early September (at the time) I decided to prune back any limbs that did not have blossoms on it. I wanted all the sun's warmth and the soil's nutrients to go to the blossoms, and not to the crazy long limbs. This was kind of hard for me...I... Continue reading

My husband and I have this pipe dream....to live in Alaska one day. We each individually think of it often, but talk of it little. We are a bit scared of this big change and talking about it makes it more real. Lately, though, our job situations have been up in the air. In the last 9 months I have been drastically cut hours at my post office job. My husband is a carpenter, and the fate of the company he works for is unknown. They may close the doors for good. This would be a great time to fullfill... Continue reading

My simple moment of happiness today...enjoying my dad's newly built sauna. That's pronounced Sow-na for all you none Finnish individuals! My dad's sauna is small, roughly 12 feet by 7 feet, with the actual heated area being only 7 feet by 7 feet. It is cute, with a tiny front porch facing the lake. There is no electricity or running water. Water is brought in by bucket, and I guess you better sauna by 9 pm to see anything! My dad did the majority of the work himself, with help from my husband and brother. The heat of a sauna... Continue reading

On a sad note, a family friend passed away about 2 weeks ago. I have been thinking of him often. He was a friend of my dad's, who quickly became a friend of mine. Carl was always happy to see us, always had a joyful hello, always a good story to tell us. He fought cancer before, but this time it came back in the liver. When he found out it was much to late to save him. He was told he would have a few months to live if he did chemotherapy or a few weeks if he chose... Continue reading

Happiness to my kids on this warm fall day...a couple big buckets of water from the hose, a few water toys and a bar of soap to clean up with. Brrr...I wouldnt be sitting in that cold water! We won't have many more warm days like this, so we are trying to savor each one. The leaves are slowly turning yellow and orange. The sun has been warm and we are enjoying a fabulous Indian Summer. One day when my son was about 3 and half years old we walked down to my parents house. Their house is across the street and down the road a little. Cole asked why we were walking instead of taking the car. I said so we could get in shape. He pondered this question and replied yes we need to get in shape. I'm a rectangle, what shape are you? Today my 21 month old daughter Brynn wanted to help me clean. Hurray! I have a cleaning helper. Will this willingness to clean actually continue until she is the age where she is actually cleaning? I am doubtfu! Mostly her "cleaning" is actually moving my dirt piles around so that I have to sweep what was just done three minutes early. She wanted to push my swiffer around today. Do you have a swiffer? I LOVE my swiffer. It picks up so much dirt and cat hair on what I thought were already clean, recently swept floors that it truly... Continue reading

The first day of school has come. Cole starts kindergarten today...he is on the big yellow bus as I type. I woke him at 7 a.m. and he complained it was to early. His knees hurt if he wakes up to early he grumbled to me. I hide my smile. He wore his favorite black Star Wars shirt and a pair of brand new jeans (pull up of course, Cole hates zippers and buttons). At 7:20 a.m. we started our walk down our winding gravel driveway (approximately a tenth of a mile). The air was crisp and still damp with... Continue reading
