What a delightful day. Thanks so much for taking us along with you. I'm now looking forward to following your suggestions en re Chicago. :)
Farewell New York City, for the moment
I'm sitting on the train going back to Pittsburgh and wishing Shalmit was here with me again to help pass the time. Yesterday was my last full day in NY. I spent the morning tidying the apartment. I don't want to say cleaning because I didn't do much of that, except for the kitchen and bathroom...
I'm charmed by the picture of the tunnel book. Personally, I think I'm shrinking back into just recording things. Very bad. Bravo to you for getting out there and marching around. I hope to get some of that in while we are in Chicago. We are doing the river tour, the Cultural museum, and the art institute. I have no idea how one get's around the city, but if I can get around London and Paris, I'm sure I can figure out Chicago.
A Going back day
The deliciously cool morning inspired me to walk back to the Jewish Museum to see some things I had missed because we went on a Saturday the first time. There is a wonderful, interactive, computer created tour of the two apartments of the Cone sisters. The tour was created from 37 photos taken w...
It's not going to be so hot in Japan. I know you will be fine there. I too am knocked out and slowed down by the heat. Why not find somewhere cooler to walk....that approximates the Japanese climate. Just muttering out loud.
Recovering
At least I haven't been spending so much time in restaurants. Thursday morning Mary and I went out to the botanic garden in the Bronx. The well-advertised exhibit wasn't so spectacular, but the Poet's Walk and the lily pond were spectacular. Here is a photo of someone doing a tricky bit of pho...
Oh, the rush of friends and talk and caring and love. I've had two days of it now.....and tho tired and a little teary eyed, I'm so grateful for my friends and family.
Movable Feasts
You have to look at this picture very carefully to see why it stopped me. Look near the black shoes. Maintaining friendships involves sitting at a table and talking and eating. The last two days have been an intense round of visits with old friends, usually sitting over coffee or something els...
Wonderful photos. Wonderful thoughts of you wandering about NY and enjoying the moments. Thank you for taking us along. :)
Sunday, Monday
I said goodby to Renee, who should be in Ireland by now, and went down to Chinatown to a Chinese festival in Columbus Park. I expected lots of vendors, like a typical NY street fair, but I guess the entrenched vendors didn't want competition, so there was lots of gambling and game playing, card...
I don't blame you for getting upset. How about moving back to Chicago?
I don't want to write this one
I am not moving. I had sorted and packed most of my studio, thrown out or recycled an amazing amount of stuff, then signed a lease with my present landlord. So, what happened? My deal fell through. After four days of hearing nothing I was asked to make the offer a little better, but no counter o...
OKOK, "I lost my virginity in Virginia." LOL
Time to lower the tone a tad… CHERRY-POPPING...
Time to lower the tone a tad… CHERRY-POPPING TIME! Five or six years back the much-missed blog Vitamin Q (‘a temple of trivia lists and curious words’) challenged its readers to declare in what location they lost their virginity. Here are some of the responses: I lost my virginity in the b...
I'm so sorry. Yup, facebook just plays games with us.
Facebook is using me
Last night I saw a link to something that's supposed to show you what you will look like in 20 years. Since I don't really expect to be around to see what I look like at 97 I tried it. Before I saw the picture they asked for too much information from me. I closed the screen and thought that was ...
A note, a note, oh hurrah. Thank you so very much.
Hugs....
This week
Lots of things happened. Still taking Cipro (until Tuesday). Slightly better each day, but still a problem. I am going to move again. I didn't really plan to do this, but I've been unhappy with this apartment for some time now. After my fight with the landlord I think it's best if I get out. So...
So sorry that you are not getting better faster...but glad there's some improvement. Sorry too that you feel you have to move. Your landlord is a fool, and the new one will be lucky to have you. Any good senior housing there. We have some wonderful spots all priced by income.

I find I can't put note on Yum Yum Cafe's blog without a struggle. What I'm doing is clicking on the individual entry. Then when I go to the bottom to leave a note, I make sure I can post a profile....it often says nothing and won't open. Once it's open, I can then leave a note.
As you can see, I'm getting dogged about this. No answer from the help line yet.
Pittsburgh is Beautiful in Spring
Everywhere you look the trees are blooming and there are lots of spring flowers. Here is a tree bursting out from a tiny patch of dirt between two buildings on a street with blocks of nothing but buildings. I took this on the way to the oral surgeon. I am better, but not good. This is my sixt...
Hope you are doing better today.....

If nothing else, dear Ruthe, you can comment here under reply, and I can check back. :)
So sorry that implant is coming out.
I'm contracting Google, but it's a convoluted mess.
Even more difficult, have you tried Open Diary?

I'll cross all fingers and toes keeping myself and these appendages elevated until you give the all clear. Seriously, I am sooooo sorry.
The week that was
Last Wednesday I took the Megabus to Philadelphia. Except for the fact that there's no way to get up and walk around, it's a decent way to travel. Of course, they leave before dawn, which meant I had to get up at 4:30, but it was OK. I met Renee in Philly and we went to the Chagall exhibit at th...

Tho she isn't writing about Japanese gardens, she is certainly writing about gardens.
Past pollution meets present day corruption
I often speak to my ESL students about democracy. Most of them don't really understand what we are all about (I'm not sure I know lately, either), and most of them are unrealistic about the US, loving us, or hating us too much. I am always pleased when I have an opportunity to demonstrate some o...
I marched...but in short spurts. Two jobs, two kids, and college sort of took me out of reality in those days. Today I should march, I should call them on their BS, instead I am introspective and struggling just to maintain. I'm left wondering what the stats on cancer were in the late and middle 1800's. What were they in the 20th.

Hi Ruthe....nope, it didn't leave me a message. I had George do a test drive for me. You can leave a message then "Select a Profile," and click on the drop down menu of your choice. G picked anonymous, but there's a typepad choice too. I was getting no notes and complaints, so I'm trying this.
Hugs at you.
Sunday stroll
The sun was shining when I left home, although they promised rain or snow for tonight. Even though I wasn't going to do it, I walked more than four miles today. I'm not as tired as last week, so we'll see what happens tonight. This time I walked to East Liberty and the Waffle Shop. They have a l...
So funny. Yes, his crazyness still is a major influence on the art community thinking, but I seem to have moved far, far beyond him right now.
Yes, maybe next time you too can wear blue and be a matching ghost. LOL
Andy and me
We went to the Warhol Museum over the weekend with our visitors from New Jersey. It's not my favorite place, only rarely have I found things that interest me, but every visitor seems to want to see it. I was having a hard time explaining silk screens to one of our guests, so we all went downstai...
Yes, very last minute.
I just picked up a book on bridges from the library yesterday. Do many of the gardens you are visiting have bridges you can enjoy?
Japan Itinerary and a volcano
I've been trying to plan my trip. On the second day I thought I would go to Mito, in Ibaraki to see one of the three noted gardens, which has a plum blossom festival in March. It can be a day trip from Tokyo. Then I thought about getting on the train the next day and going to Kagoshima, at the ...
That's how much of that music was designed to be heard. Yes, stay home, and enjoy your place. New tenants yet? I haven't gone to class yet as I hadn't wanted to share the germs. I'll see by next week.
Freezing rain and beautiful music
The rain is my excuse for staying home this morning, although I'm not sure it's even raining--just dark and dreary. Each year I'm finding it a little harder to deal with winter. It doesn't mean I'm off for warmer climes. Just more suffering. I think we are lucky here in Pittsburgh. This storm s...
No, I didn't know about that. What a great idea. And did you take the bookcases? :)
Moving day
for my upstairs neighbors. I had to get up early this morning and move my car out of the garage so I would be able to use it today. I had to do it Monday, also, for packing day, but I had an early appointment for my blood test, so I was gone before the movers came. Yesterday I just took the bus ...
Working out is best of all. How do you do that while traveling. I'm still coughing badly so not back in the pool yet....darn it.
More snow
I can't say I'm sorry about the snow this morning. My morning lecture was cancelled giving me the opportunity to stay in bed for another hour. I love eight hours of sleep, but somehow can't get in bed early enough to get it most mornings. I suppose the little nap at 8:30, sitting up, had somethi...
Yes, never turn down a free bookcase. LOL Yes, you will get more books, but you can hang the art over the bookcases. :)
Freezing rain
I left the house in time for a slow walk to the bus, got to my neighbor's driveway and turned around and came back home. Freezing rain is much more frequent here than in Chicago where it was always too cold in winter for rain. I bought new boots at L. L. Bean, which were supposed to be good on i...
RYN: Yes, NCIS is on DVD/CD. G and I are slowly buying a season at a time and enjoying the heck out of them.
So very glad the two of you will meet up in Kyoto. Do you read PureLandMountain? He's the semi retired editor of Kyoto Magazine, and his blog is interesting. He gardens....veggies mostly, but he lists a number of Japanese blogs that might be of interest to you.
