It's been a long time (again), hasn't it? These last few months have brought utter chaos. (Chaos seems to love me. The feeling is most definitely not mutual.) Over the last week, we are finally catching our breath. So what's been happening? Our planned move back to New England fell... Continue reading

Oh, Heather - How generous! If I didn't miss the boat (just catching up on the week's blog reading), I would *love* to be entered for the History of US set. xomeg

Agreed! House-hunting is so much fun. House-selling...with two children who are big enough to make big messes (last time we sold a house Asher wasn't even mobile and all Julia's possessions fit into a chest in our living room!)...not so much fun at all. That said: My house is never as clean as it is when we are trying to sell it. So it's nice to walk into a tidy home every time we go out. :) xo

Thank you, Shel! Good energy is greatly appreciated. We've never sold-and-bought at the same time before (the last few times we moved we were either selling to move into a rental or moving out of a rental into a home we were buying) so it's a little anxiety-inducing, worrying about the timing of everything. Looking forward maybe to seeing more of you at homeschooling things when we get there. :)

February's photos were, until yesterday, (mostly) still on my memory card, although I did sit down at one point and start to write here. I got as far as the title before being drawn away. And now I don't know where March has gone, but the calendar says April will... Continue reading

As I write this, all the earth is not dressed in white. In fact, in our part of the world temperatures have been well above freezing all week and there is no white to be seen anywhere. January couldn't decide what it wanted to do, with whiteout lake-effect snow followed... Continue reading

There's a great deal of making—and planning for making—happening here these days. Maybe it's the cold weather? I like getting out in it, but there is a lot to be said for curling up in a chair with a blanket and a bunch of wool on a cold, snowy day.... Continue reading

It seems Mother Nature finally got word that it is winter in Buffalo. The last couple days have been sunny and cold, perfect for playing outside. Today, by contrast, is overcast and gloomy, which always makes it seem colder: the sort of day when we're very glad we have nowhere... Continue reading

:: a fractal All this week, Julia has been working on a tens fractal: She made hundred-triangles out of the ten-triangles, a couple each day. (I printed out the ten-triangles already done, because glueing 1000 tiny triangles onto 100 larger triangles seemed a bit much for one seven-year-old to do.... Continue reading

In the morning, when we're ready to settle into our day, we light a candle and turn to our Morning Basket. I fell head-over-heels in love with the idea of the Morning Basket more than a year ago, when I read about it in a thread on the Secular Homeschool... Continue reading

Love the Geranium dress - it's one of Julia's favorites. I'll be making another one this summer for her to wear as the flower girl in my sister's wedding. :)

This little weekly routine may have been the most consistent thing I did in all my years writing this blog. I started it, I think, by way of participating in Ginny's weekly Yarn Along, and then I thought it would be fun to write about other things we were up... Continue reading

I've been away for quite a while, haven't I? I didn't mean to stay away so long—truly, I didn't—but what began as a conscious decision to step back and deal with what turned out to be a very difficult few months turned into...inertia, I suppose, is the best way to... Continue reading

Heather, I am so jealous of you because everything is falling into place the way you've planned, and we are still working toward our plans. BUT I am so happy for you because everything is falling into place the way you've planned, and I love reading about it here, because it gives me hope that things will fall into place for us, too. And also because you're a fantastic writer with a lot of lovely things to write about. Keep doing what you're doing. You're awesome. xo

We’ve been away again—literally and figuratively—and once again I have some catching up to do. I began writing this two weeks ago, now, after Asher’s first week of “little Kindergarten”…so it’s mostly out of date now, but still something I want to share. :: Asher’s first week of school deserves... I’ve mostly given up on our garden this year. It’s still growing, abundantly: tomatoes and cucumbers and broccoli and turnips and celery and are all doing well, in spite of the weeds that are growing up around them. We really have neglected our garden this year—and especially this past month—but... Continue reading
