This reminded me of the backpacking trick of creating dehydrated toothpaste dots and carrying them in a baggie to save weight. The dots need to be chewed to rehydrate before the tooth-brushing can proceed. Yes there's the extra hassle of making the dots, but there should be very little mess when it comes to use (unless the kids get creative...)

Training kids to dispense the right amount of toothpaste? Talk amongst yourselves.
At Amazon: Aquafresh Kids Toothpaste (affiliate link) Sara asks: My kids are of the age where they don't need constant supervision while brushing their teeth, but they struggle with using the right amount of toothpaste and keeping the toothpaste tube clean! I'm tired of toothpaste duty and c...

South Africa, 9 hours to go.
Location: On the plane, half an hour before take-off from Dubai for Durban, South Africa. I just SMS'd home (Malta) and Mum (South Africa) to let everyone know that all is well and I'm on my way! This is a 9-hour flight but... we will survive! I am enjoying my... Continue reading

Impressions of Dubai
I have never been in an Arab country before, so this is a new experience. It was a little weird in the Dubai airport, seeing the security staff - all male, all wearing white robes and white headdresses - but after a while I got used to it. After passport... Continue reading

American hipster, male
He is male, and when he sat down, he stowed his inordinately large and elaborate backpack (clue 1) under the seat in front of him, then immediately whipped out a macbook laptop (clue 2) and an iPhone (clue 3), quickly followed by a massive pair of headphones (clue 4) which he plugged into the entertainment system. Imma veru *sigh*
Well it turns out that they are going to Dubai, but evidentally didn't read their itinerary very well, because they didn't know there was a stop in Larnaca. They were incredulous when the steward informed them that no, there's another few hours to go before we get to Dubai. Continue reading

Take-off
For the whole of the take-off, I had this big, cheesy grin plastered all over my face. I can't help it, I love physics! It's so much fun to see a wing in action and picture the airflow over and under it, and the turbulence, and the action of the wing tips. Back in University, my fluids professor was modelling the flow of air over aeroplane winds using Finite Element Analysis, and that's what I kept thinking of :-) Continue reading

Un-Raptured
So I'm standing there, and both stations have a queue, and the announcement comes again, the gate is closing, final call. I was sweating bullets, but I was relieved to see that all the other people in these queues were also booked on my flight. Surely they would let us through? I can just imagine what my husband would say: the plane was two hours late and you STILL missed it? Continue reading

Electronic frustration
Since I bought the netbook, the 6-cell and 9-cell batteries have become commercially availabe, however at the shop they wanted to sell me a 6-cell battery for more than what I can get a 9-cell battery off the internet, so I don't think I'll be getting one from there. Continue reading

A month of Sundays
Today was my last Sunday in church for five weeks. I will be gone for three weeks, but they are bracketed by Sundays, and I will be back in Malta on a Monday. At the end of the service, Pastor Edwin and the rest of the church prayed for me... Continue reading

Unknown number
Someone was very anxious to talk to me. But who? The caller was listed as "Unknown Number", and I hate it when that happens because it leaves me wondering who the mystery caller was and what they wanted to speak with me about. Continue reading
