South by Southwest (SXSW) is almost a month in the rearview mirror at this point, but for me it takes about as long to allow everything that I saw to sink in. So I wanted to recap some of my key takeaways about the industry and the event itself. I... Continue reading

Rich -- Thanks for that link. It should be a concern for brands as well as Google. Seems very open to that risk.
Search + social media, the evolving landscape
You have undoubtedly heard about Google and Bing announcing partnerships with Twitter/Facebook/et. al. to include real time social media results into their search indexes. However, even if you did hear about it, I think few people have seen what it looks like in Google's environment, so I record...

Dean -- thanks for your POV. It's an interesting play, right? There is some upside to Google doing this, but I do see your point. They lend some cred where solo ventures may not get the traction they need.
Can Google's weight give momentum to QR codes?
I was reading through a post today on the Ad Age Digital Next blog by my colleague Allison Mooney and wanted to share it with you. The post is on Google's support of QR code technology through a program called Favorite Places. In short, Google is tapping into their local search data to find the ...
Scott -- Thanks for the comment and the MM link. It's definitely coming, may not look like it does now, but the key will be (to Marc's point) if other technology like GPS+visual recognition make this obsolete. Time will tell
Marc -- I'll do a little more digging on the Goggles technology, it's an exciting time in the Place+data+experience space.

It's as if they launch everything in a vacuum and then spin their way out of it. Ownership and reselling of content isn't cool and I think they'd back off of that given the uproar just as they did with Beacon, et. al.
Facebook Strategy? Bloggers, Agencies Beware!
If you have ever been in a meeting about digital media, at some point you will have heard the words "Facebook strategy". It probably came after my other two favourite words “viral vieo”. Now, the reason that these words are so needlessly bandied about is that marketers understand one thing – the...

Great advice Lewis. Keep it coming, this is invaluable information for people looking to write, but too intimidated by the process. You're guiding us through. (Maybe an ebook on the topic in the future?)
Top 10 Things I Learned A Year Too Late: Getting Your Book Read
A year ago my 5th book was published. You would think that a guy who runs his own marketing and communications firm and once was an editor for a large book publisher before starting his own publishing consultancy would have known better. A little history first... My first four books were regiona...
