Reading this (for the second time) aloud to my wife actually got me choked up. Especially the paragraph about the Kellers' inadequacy (how he dresses, how she's "pure Pittsburgh"). That's the story of God, how He's been telling it for millenia.

The new Coldpay is ok. Definitely much better than X&Y. A few of my friends are freaking out about it, but to me it's just average.

Rev. McCarter! If you like trumpets, you've come to the right blog. Steve is very fond of the shofar.

No matter how clearly Keller speaks, there are people who hate him and will seek to slander him. He is much more gracious than I ever could be to these wolves in Reformed sheep's clothing.

24 was so awful last season that I decided to not watch it this season anyway. LOST is unaffected by the strike.

What a train wreck. I'll avoid reading or listening to anything from WOTM OR Pagitt in the future. P.S. Friel's use of the term "pastor" in addressing Pagitt was straight out of the O'Reilly handbook. Use a neutral descriptive term to sound derogatory. It takes a special gift to pull that one off.

Phil, I agree that it's not a good idea to "sneak out" or underperform at a job. A key concept to working less is getting rid of debt. If you have credit card debt, a HELOC, student loans, etc hanging over your head, it creates stress and can bind you to a job that overworks you and takes you away from your community. A family that doesn't have debt has more options and freedom to choose to work a different job (perhaps one that intentionally injects you further into the community). Dave Ramsey's book "The Total Money Makeover" is a good place to start planning on becoming debt-free.

I AM FREAKING OUT. This book is going to be so good. I hope they give a good discount for buying in bulk, because it's going to be one I'm going to want to give away to a bunch of people.

I think you'll be more impressed with eMusic's selection if you dig a little deeper. Four of the seven albums you have listed under Audiophile are available there. I've gotten into the habit of searching there first when I hear of new music, and for indie rock stuff, it's almost always available. I also like that I can click on an artist's label link and see what other bands that label has.

Glad you're enjoying Love. They're planning on re-releasing their back catalog this year with fresh mastering. When that happens, be sure to get Revolver...

I wonder if this is an issue of Christians lacking discernment and turning to legalism. It seems like there is a big difference between using strong language (as the Bible does) and the "filthy language" Colossians speaks of. Piper's use falls firmly in the former. I appreciate the conflicted nature of his apology, though. Christians have a list of words that are "off-limits" instead of seeking for the Lord to purify their speech. In my daily life and in the lives of Christians around me, speaking harsh words that are void of love is a much, much bigger issue than so-called 4-letter words. You can list 4-letter words on a sheet of paper and resolve to never say them-- you don't even need the Holy Spirit to do that. But to speak words of love rather than hate...impossible without God. ‘cause you can make your life look good you can do what Jesus would but you’d be surprised what you can do with a hard heart --Derek Webb, "Ballad In Plain Red"

The brand new Over The Rhine Christmas record (Snow Angels) is worth checking out as well. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't mention Your King Has Come, a project I put together a few years back. (http://www.yourkinghascome.com)

In the eyes of the watching world, the issue will not be homosexuality-- in fact, the issue won't fundamentally be adultery. It will be hypocrisy, which is (allegedly) why this man came forward.
