Just watched The Killing Room on Showtime. Now that is one fucked up little movie. Some dude named Larry Carroll, who has a lot of double consonants in his name and works for MTV, described it as follows: “Cubewith better actors. Reservoir Dogs without the hipness. Lifeboat with a modern... Continue reading

I agree with your indignant feelings about NSFW - and yet, as a government contractor, I appreciate that it exists. Several years ago, I posed nude for On Our Backs. I was given permission to put the pictures on my website; now that OOB is defunct I believe they belong to the photographer, Janet Ryan. They are beautiful pictures, but I have to be careful not to access them from work. One day, while working at my job site and replacing someone who wasn't in that day, I must have (for some reason) downloaded one of those pictures. I don't remember doing it and I can't imagine what I was thinking. But the next time I was in the offices of my employer (i.e., not at the job site), I was brought into a meeting with the top brass. They asked if I had put those pictures on my colleague's computer. I said I certainly didn't remember doing so. They said "well, we know you must have done it, because...the pictures are of you." Oops. My colleague was exonerated, and my employers convinced the government agency that I am a valuable worker, and they let me stay on. (For that matter, my employer let me stay on too, to say nothing of the agency!) They even let me continue to use a computer and the Internet, though I don't TRULY need it for my job. But I have made damn sure never to look at anything remotely NSFW there again. No way, not at all, nothing. I do view corsetry websites, but only the ones that are presented as fashion, not fetish. If I come across something remotely NSFW by accident, I immediately purge the browsing history, the cache, everything. I've been on the wrong side of NSFW and I don't want to be there again. The fact that the pictures were of me makes it even worse. Fortunately I am going back to finish my undergraduate degree soon, and I don't think there's any such tag as NSFCollege, though there might be NSFPeople Easily Embarrassed if Someone is Looking Over Their Shoulder. But until then, I am being VERY careful.

I am not-so-secretly glad that even famous people get liquids taken away from them at the airport. It makes me feel a little less picked on!

Wil, thanks for mentioning World AIDS Day. The more attention, the better, and hearing it from someone many bloggers trust is so wonderful.

I have a Sidekick 2. I don't plan to upgrade to the three for a while because I can't afford it. I got my original Sidekick in January 2005 and my Sidekick 2 in January 2006 - both LONG after they were released. I agree that the 2's camera is really shoddy, but it's enabled me to take pictures of things I would have missed because I don't carry around my camera. Then again, some cell phones have REALLY good cameras, so it could be better - but nothing beats the Sidekick's keyboard. I wouldn't get a Blackberry just because the keyboard looks much less comfortable than that of the Sidekick. Sorry Wil, I'm just kinda rambling.

I can totally relate to the "search roll" comment. I am so bad at finding things that my partner used to keep a "Search and Find" tally. Finding something gave me +1, finding something she couldn't find gave me +5. Failing to find something gave me -1, failing to find something that she subsequently found and was in plain sight gave me -5. I think we gave up counting when I was at -350 Search and Find.

Montreal is one of my favorite cities; I would move there if I could. (The winters are a factor, and I'd also have to learn the sign language used in Quebec if I wanted to remain an interpreter.) I hope you have a wonderful time in that beautiful city.

Longtime reader, first-or-maybe-third-time commenter. Three things. 1. I had no idea you were a radio geek! Shortwave fan here too, plus a ham. 2. I grin to myself every time I see you on I Love Toys in that ThinkGeek shirt. 3. How can I go about getting an autographed copy of Just a Geek? I've been wanting it for at least a year now, and I have stubbornly refused to buy it unless I can get it signed. RuPaul let me buy his book and mail it to him to be signed, would that work? Will you ever sell them autographed again?

After thinking I would never experience a real hot Krispy Kreme, I discovered a shop on Route 1 in Alexandria, Virginia. I have been there exactly twice, both in the morning, and I went inside both times. The first time I got a free sample; the second time I didn't. But I want to try all the different kinds! I wish they weren't so high in calories.
