Yesterday i completed my first century bike ride--100 miles (102.2 actually but who's counting...LOL) Special thx to Brian and Phil, two experienced and seasoned riders that towed me around and kept me from quiting at mile, 40, 70 and 80....way to go guys, sorry i was so heavy!! Y'all were awe...
Rhonda, we so very much appreciated the opportunity to be with everyone. That day, for us, will linger as a fine memory akin to a Robert Parker review claiming an amazing 45 second finish! Meaning this memory will just go on and on and on...
The Voice from Behind: Kalein's Keynote Message from Dan Perkins
Last week's inaugural Kalein Napa Leadership Retreat found its participants catapulted over the top of all our expectations. From the retreat's setting at the magnificent Tenstone Estate in Calistoga to our private visits with Napa Valley's premier winemakers to the inspirational words of enc...
Oh, Randy... this sounds like one of the best days a person could have in Napa. I am so happy you all are having a great time. I can't wait to glean from your experiences there.
Phifer-Pavitt & Failla Wine Tastings In Napa Valley
The photo gives a reasonable impression of the spectacular sunset view last night from the backyard of Tenstone Estate, home of the "Kalein Does Napa Retreat". At Kalein, we celebrate all artisitic genres, including agriculture's highest art form, wine-making. Yesterday, several of us enjoyed a...
Bobby... awesome. thanks for keeping us informed. We are praying for you, Rachel and the boys as the ride becomes epic for all of you. Remember the memories and the cause!
Pescadero Beach To Big Sur
Two days officially down for the ride down the California coast. And right now I'm chillin in our super sweet room at the Big Sur River Inn. 2 rooms. Sweet front deck. Looking right out at the river. Here's a really quick recap of the 2 days. Day 1 Pescadero Beach to Watsonville 57.1 miles. Av...
saaweeeet! I think we need to get out for a ride.
New Bike
Picked up my new bike today...: )
Well, you know why I'm disappointed! It would have been great to hang out with you in this beautiful part of the country chatting first hand what it's like to enjoy a "wine country lifestyle!" But we can still do that and you were right in the video audition... you do have a great life. You won't be missing out on too much.
My Thoughts On The "Dream Job" Ride
It feels as though some of you may be more upset that I did not make the "Top Ten" of the Dream Job than I am. Here are a few honest thoughts running through my head at this moment... - Maybe it was because I am not a PR person. I'm a social networker and people person (among other things). ...
wow! you're speaking my language... the same language of fear, discomfort and knowing what I've got to do as a follower of Christ. I'm with you!
Enemy in the Mirror
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm a firm believer in the complete redemption of Christ and the ministry of the Holy Spirit renewing and transforming me into being more like Jesus. I am sure not the man i could/ought/want to be, but I am not the man I was and the credit goes to the power of Christ i...
of course I'm hoping you get this... You are the right guy for the job and if there is ever a need for an assistant, you know where I am!

The Big 3-0 And Gifts
My birthday is in 3 days. Monday June 8th...I turn 30. Jesus' ministry started at 30, so I'm expecting big things this year. Usually I don't say TOO much about my birthday. I think last year I may have hinted at what I'd like. This year, I'm unashamedly asking you all to get me a birthday gift. ...

Randy, Great job! I have to chuckle thinking of you riding on that flat tire but it shows me one more example of why you're a hero to me. "Quit really isn't a word I choose to use often. On the other hand, finish is a word I cherish." I love that and am proud to witness yet another goal "checked off" the list.
My First Triathlon - Another Life Goal Completed
I have a rather daunting list of life goals, so to check one off the list is a big honkin' deal. Today, I took off yet another. A triathlon. Several factors made this an unusually satisfying completion. First, I am not a swimmer. A total beginner. Never had a lesson in my life until Spence Sm...
just got a chance to look and ponder... for me naked becomes "revelation." As you alluded, it can reveal the soul whether vulnerable or ashamed for both subject and subjected. I consider nude as simple and pure, resting in it's essence... depending on the condition of the view(er), all is present in this painting.
Nicely done Randy!
Naked or Nude? - My Latest Watercolor Is Called "Naked And Not Ashamed"
"A desirable element of art is beauty and when the artist combines beauty with the provocative sensuality of the nude body confusion occurs in some viewers regarding the issue of vulgarity. Nudity has the power to incite various emotions such as surprise, uneasiness and intimacy. So the artist r...

Randy, I will pray for you at 11 EST that will be the same time I enter the cold waters of the San Fransisco Bay for my last triathlon of the year. You'll be done with your race before I am but you'll be in more pain for having done a marathon... Endure and then relish in the accomplishment!
Marathon Saturday !!!
I will be running the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon Saturday. It will be my 18th official marathon. I plan to thoroughly enjoy the 26.2 miles and go for a kind and gentle 11 minute pace. My finish goal time is between 4:46-4:59. I did not do my last long run because I was at 9,000 ft.elevat...
Nice!
Nature's Abstract Art
I like to think I'm an easy going guy... but today I want to punch someone! Unfortunately don't know who. So, I guess I'll just keep my hands to myself. But all this PC BS is driving my crazy.

Food is our discipline between instant gratification and processed reward. When I'm hungry I just grab whatever I can get my hands on. But when I'm wanting to experience the true essence of who God made me to be, a creative, worshiping, lover of the beauty before me (His creation) and inside me (His Spirit); I cook. I share. I pause. I enjoy. Consequently, I look forward to the times I can put that which is before me... inside me.
The Culinary Arts - Food As The First Art Form - And More
Food and eating is probably the oldest aspect of human culture. Food was the first sculpture. It would certainly be strange if artists did not turn their attention to this most basic and profound aspect of life. I have found joy recently in preparing culinary delights. Until two years ago, I ...
I have reflected and written a lot on this subject from the perspective of pastor and Christ follower. Depending on what hat I wear the conclusion can vary quite significantly. Based on needs or wants, purpose and position, the church exists for many reasons; to gather people of like faith but not just to gather people of like faith. It goes beyond community when it is seen as a force within a community. Did your gathering last night have the elements that comprise a great church? ... absolutely! Did your gathering do all the things a great church should accomplish? Not really. But then again, there are a lot of churches who have never experienced what you had last night either.

"There but for the grace of God go I"... "If it's got to be, it's up to me" and "Life is like a box of chocolates."
Okay, just kidding but lately I've been unable to shake this proverb... "None of us are as smart as all of us."

My daughter, Sara just returned from China where she spent the last week in Beijing. She is recovering from a nasty case of bronchitis and tells us the air in that city is, "beyond disgusting" and referred to it as "The gray sky." For a country where saving face is paramount it will be interesting to see the spin.
