You didn't mention this, but I think it's also worth acknowledging that you don't have a TV in your house. (Right?) Again, it goes back to prioritizing and making choices. Thank you for sharing your life with us, I'm a regular reader and your farming, crafting, cooking, schooling life is a lovely escape for me. My choices are different, which makes peeking into yours all the more fascinating.

At the risk of extreme overdramatization: for the last year or so, I have been living in a personal computer purgatory. Nothing terribly threatening or challenging, just an iPhoto library that was full to bursting and a constant, destested pop-up... Continue reading

It's all so lovely. I dream of one day having a space as big as yours. A technical question - how do you water such a big space?

Spring comes more slowly, more subtly to the High Desert. It's here, but you must know its signs to recognize its arrival. While the valley is awash in bulbs and leaves and wet, here there are tight buds of leaves,... Continue reading

What a wonderful perspective you have. It's a good thing you have Australorps in your brooder - I've heard they are more aware of aerial predators than most chickens. Best of luck with your flock this Spring and Summer.

Our kitchen is tiny. Barely any counter space, and little room to move around. Loading the dishwasher and getting ice for coctails are unfortunately mutually exclusive activities. It's what my Auntie Colleen would call at "two bun" kitchen. Even so,... Continue reading

Australorps are amazing layers - huge eggs, laid often. And they have a great temperament. Very docile, very smart. I've also heard they are more aware of aerial predators than other breeds. Silver laced Wyandottes are also great layers, and such pretty feathers, too. Great choices!

I created, organized, and decorated my studio with the intention of fashioning a creative haven for myself. A place of creativity, inspiration, and prolific making. At the time, I envisioned a place for me to be solitary in my creativity,... Continue reading

I wrote a long post about this cardigan and then discovered a week later that it never published and that all my edits were lost. Reflecting back, it's likely this loss is a good thing; perhaps my musings veered from... Continue reading

Could you please tell a little more about how Adelaide feeds the bacon drippings to the chickens? Just in an old pie plate or something? A wonderful winter treat for our hens - and a reason to eat more bacon. Thank you for the two-fer! ~ Amy

Ahhh. I love yarn shopping. My local yarn store (LYS) is a haven of creativity and community. The owner greets me by name, inquires how my last project turned out, and offers inspiration as she winds my skeins into the... Continue reading

Yummy. I'll throw my name in the hat. Hope it's not bad karma to comment just for a freebee - I read religiously but don't take the opportunity to tell you how much I appreciate your photos, writing and recipes often enough. You do excellent, inspiring work.

I carried this blanket with me to every swim lesson, karate class and book club through November and the first part of December. It grew quickly as my crochet hook flew over each stitch. Working on a deadline, with a... Continue reading

This is the pink sunset and full moon rise I found upon returning home after spending Chritmas at my parent's. It felt very calm and quiet. Then life became rather hectic and now I'm searching for the calm and quiet... Continue reading

Our late Summer suppers celebrate the bounty of our harvest. Meals are spectacular, though very simple. A loaf home crusty homemade bread, a pile of Swiss chard tossed about in skillet with bacon, a humble plate of beans. This is... Continue reading
