(Long post) Had my first experience going to the ED at hospital in the middle of nowhere - in Bahia, Brazil. Have a known kidney stone (ok it's been there for a while I just ignored it - hematuria since August that I blamed on rhabdo while training for marathon,... Continue reading

DC marathon (#4)
So I just finished marathon #4 and have some mixed feelings about it. I trained a lot harder for this one. Ran 8 weeks straight over 40 miles, with 3 weeks 50+, peaking at 55. That was a huge improvement mileage wise for me over the last few. Went down... Continue reading

Philly Marathon in 3:43!!
So I woke up this morning at 4:45am still not feeling nervous. Then I started wondering why that was. I guess part of it was knowing that I was definitely going to beat last years time 4:26 and was going to beat my last marathon (in NJ) which was 4:05.... Continue reading

Day 9-10 (At sea-back in Rome)
Day #9 At sea - I broke up my day with a long run after breakfast. Did 14 miles. Had been reading ChiRunning which has some cool pointers in it. Some of the stuff I do already as I found naturally that was the way to run to minimize pain.... Continue reading

He's doing fine, having a great time. Despite having all day yesterday resting on the cruise ship he felt a little wiped today (day #10). He wants to move here (for at least the summers).....I think he's all talk though!
Day 6-7
Day #6 At sea. Nothing real exciting here. Mostly laying and reading at the pool and eating. Did get a 9 mile run in. Much easier to get enough calories in here. Day #7 Turkey. My father had complained initially "why do we have to go to turkey?" I had told him he could stay on the ship but he de...
Day 8
Day #8 Crete - Our last stop on the cruise. We arrive at port pretty early and our tour started at 7am. Getting off the ship you can already see the mountains. They are similar to turkey, kind of dry mountains with sporadic trees and shrubs. They call them the... Continue reading

Day 2-3
Day #2 Went to osteria Dell anima for dinner, which was very good. Had the gnocchi with gorgonzola and spinach sauce. Managed to fall asleep before my dad making the snoring less of an issue. Slept quite well, think the wine at dinner helped. Today we slept late and then... Continue reading

Italy day 1
So day #1, landed at 9am, a bit exhausted. Taxi drops us off and says go down that alley and take the second right. Darn pedestrian walkways. We walk and look and look for a sign for the b&b but there is nada. Go to a cafe and ask and... Continue reading

Brazil days #5-9
Have found myself falling into a bit of a routine. But its a great routine! Breakfast at the pousada. I usually get an omelet and then try some the various breads and fruit. Fried plantains are awesome. There are these round little breads which appeared the one day - they... Continue reading

Brazil Days #1-4
So the flight here was ridiculously long. You really have to want to go somewhere to put up with a 24hr trip to where you are going. There is just no good way to get to this town. It was 3 flights and an hour and a half drive. Luckily I fell asleep on the flight from Miami to Brazil (salvador) b...

So it was my IT band that was causing all the pain. Finally got my post-marathon massage today and I almost screamed when my IT band got massaged. Now I know. Makes sense that it started hurting much more after the hills!
Finished my first Marathon!
I really want to thank everyone for their support during my training for the marathon and for helping me raise money for Lungevity in memory of my mom. It means a great deal to have that support behind you when you are trying to do something like this. Also thanks to Team Philly for the training...

Less than 24 hours to the Philadelphia Marathon!
Its finally here. Seemed so far away when I started training and then all of a sudden its here. This week has been tough. Why? The lack of running really made my body feel off. Im more sore right now then I had been after running 20 miles. People say... Continue reading
