.."find it hard to be methodical and orderly on this blog. My posts are scattered, I jump from this to that, harum scarum. I think this is because there is just so much I could say, it overwhelms me...so I overcome that by simply jumping in and writing the first thing that comes to mind. Otherwise, I'd give up and write nothing."
Jane, you're in good company.I just started Mark Twain's autobiography . ( He didn't want it out 'til 100 yrs after death) After many false starts, he came to the conclusion that that is the only way to go . Write what is of interest at the moment , and only as long as it is interesting, then drop it, and move on to the next topic of interest .
No Cancer Talk, Mussels, and Accordian Babes
My son Will is leaving tomorrow. He's been here since last Wednesday night, late, so I've spent six days with him after not seeing him for two years, unless you count Skype, which I don't. Not really. Feeling him hug me, well, Skype can go jump in a lake. Last night he surprised me by offering t...
Hi Jane. Ran across this by accident . Here's another Accordion Babe for your collection .
It's not your (my) grandmother's polka band.

The person responsible for the sign( & likely a young, two-legged houseplant, unfamiliar with pussy willows) probably either misread , or couldn't read, the source(invoice, note, list, screen, etc) that inspired him/her to make the sign . Have seen it plenty of times in the local grocery chain. Also ocasionally in the local installments of the various Idiotmarts. ( Of which, Walmart/Sam's Club is the leading practitioner. ) ;)
The Jersey Willow
A friend of mine who I'll call "X" because he's a responsible, decent, upright fellow and what happened to him can't be helped, this friend, this reliable observer went into a Sam's Club mega-store in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he saw a sign advertising "Jersey Willows" and when he observed ...
Saw that. See the latest, a Salinger fantasy? :)
"Crows are Nazis" ?lol More like the Hogan's Heroes variety . I've always thought of them as comic relief . (Making woodpecker drilling noises, stealing the rubber washers on the metal garage roof, stealing my keys, etc)

Merry Christmas BG,BK, Skimmer &

~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ I emailed Jeddie about a month ago and wrote, "Jeddie? Baby? I want to do another song this year!" I'm always wanting something. So, we all got to it again. I did the vocals up here in Cleveland and through the magic of the Internets, Jeddie was able to download the files...
(Belated 2c)
Dear Queen Non-Schmoe,
Being made aware of others' struggles, and sometimes pathos, might give a fuller, and ealier appreciation for his life, with you & The Skimmer. Might even spur him to avoid some pitfalls/fools' gold/traps, etc., that come his way, that might lead to dead ends that trip up many. As for Eldrick Jr, famous people, are just people, and the public image isn't always (almost never?) the same as reality. . The sooner that realization sinks in, the better.
Ps, standing O for Jennifer . :) *clap,clap*
Collateral Damage
Jennifer writes: Every once in awhile I'm aware of the exact moment when I have said something that will stick with the lamblets and let them experience the world in a different way. I try to be "present" with them. I try to answer in ways that will best serve them, but I know a lot of "learning...
Wake up your inner cavewoman, BG. Replacing some of your lights with wide/full spectrum bulbs can help. ( That is if you don't mind ruining the sad mood. ;)
If there's reasons, np, if there's no reason at all, maybe.
Misery Loves Company
I ran into a neighbor in the grocery store this morning, the mother of one of Blue Kid’s best friends. She’s a riot. Makes me laugh every time I’m around her. I should be around her more often. This morning, standing near a gorgeous display of apple cider and powdered donuts, she was telling me t...
Saw that. Good to see Taibbi's stayed consistent. Would have been disappointing if he became an Obama apologist. Here's a couple others ,from Cocktailhag and Arthur Silber.
A followup here. (Can't link it directly, so scroll down to post of Oct. 10)
If you have to argue with the imperial cheerleaders (such as at the WaPoo) , Silber has some good points on how not to do it, in Fools For Empire (Part II, with link to Part I)
How it Works
Matt Taibbi on Obama's Nobel Peace Prize: Our Western society quite openly embraces war as a means of solving problems and for quite some time now has fashioned its entire social and economic structure around the preparation for war. Most of our important scientific innovations come, either dire...

Self Portrait
Update below Inspired by Jennifer, who drew her (fabulous) self portrait yesterday, I thought I'd give my own a shot. Jennifer works in pencil. Me? Blue Sharpie. It's what I prefer when I work at my art. Reminds me of a quote from my favorite show, Bored to Death. George: Are we too stoned? M...
Good luck Skimmer. :)
Snag, I had the avatar a couple times, after coming here from another typepad site that gives one to everybody. Came back a few minutes later, and it was gone. ?????
Adult Supervision Needed
The Skimmer had a medical test this morning. He doesn't want me to go into too much detail about it on my blog. So, I asked him, "Why? You don't want to be the butt of jokes?" We were just going over his discharge instructions. One line item says: You should be accompanied by an adult for the res...
"Hey, don't let me stop you.... newspaper editors are much more lenient than zombies
Especially at the WaPoo. They hired William "AlwaysWrong" Kristol ferchrissakes!
So, I've decided I'm going to start out all my Washington Post op-eds with that phrase.
Lol :) What if ( as Arlo Guthrie once asked) everybody did that? (& include it in every post @ WaPoo)It'd become a movement. The He's-a-handsome-man-but-I'm-gonna-say-something-stupid-in-the-service-of-my-sponsors-to-give-Blue-Girl-in-a-Blue-State-something-to-write-about-and-insurance-and-phamaceutical-industry-freedom(for them)-crusade. ;)
My Parents Were Awesome
Diane, submitted by Jennifer. Fun site where children have posted pictures of their parents. h/t Dr. X
:) Looks like my mother at my sister's wedding . ( minus the bridal outfit ;)
OT , BG ( & others), WaPoo is looking for a new columnist. Given the current lineup, any & all in the BG-o-sphere would be a vast improvement. Plus, if you do a good job, you can get a status-improving firing, like Froomkin;)

Tobasco? Pshaw! Something else would be more appropriate.(Mmmmmm! :))
A Recipe for Disaster
“Isn’t this just Beefaroni?” That is the question I got after I spent hours last night, slaving over a hot stove, making a nice dinner for my husband. Well, it didn’t take hours to boil the Cavatelli, brown the ground beef and toss it all together in a saucepan with Paul Newman’s Tomato & Basil P...
^BK looks sharp. & Em too. (I need an edit button.)
Re the email( that won't work at the moment- ??) :

Beaming with Pride
Blue Kid went to prom Saturday night. The photo session began at BK's girlfriend's parents' house at 4:30pm. Well, it actually started at 4:45pm because BK's girlfriend was in her bedroom with her grandmother in a full-blown state of emergency. At one point, her Grandma ran out into the living ro...
BK looks sharp. Sweet post BG . :)
prom inmates..
I think handcuffs, ropes and tasers are involved.
Lol!
Way back when, a lot of us felt the same way, so set up a non-prom prom, including a dress code of wearing something you already had. (Due to a death in the family , I missed that too.) Also, we were dismayed at the thought of some sappy-crappy Air Supply song as our prom theme legacy , even if many of us weren't going to be there. We started a write-in campaign, that was ultimately successful. Let the Good Times Roll eked it out over Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers . You'd have fit right in, BG. :)

Nothing wrong with you finding the humor in Frances Farmer's situations, especially 60+ years after the fact. The "crazy people" (just quoting ;) laugh about it as much as anyone . Keeps 'em from going insane. I've had some good yuks in the psychiatric ward (visiting ;) , discussing such things . Relax, BG. You're fine. :)
Funny Thing Happened After I Read More About Frances Farmer
Today is BADD! Blogging Against Disablism Day. I’ve started several different posts. And I haven’t been able to get through a one. Even though SKM over at Shakesville wrote this: People who may be hesitant to blog about ablism/disablism because they don't feel "qualified" or are afraid of using ...
