That is f@#ktacular. I was off the coast on the Tarawa for that Bright Star. No line number for me to get to the beach, so I just did Gator Squares with the Navy for two weeks. Heard some great stories about the Egyptians from the guys that got to go ashore, but never heard about any $hit like this. Awesome.

Recover yet from all that thorough research? I surely hope so. From one Irishman to another, a belated St Paddy's to ya!

Mr. Sparkle, two things: First - Flash bangs are not a standard issue piece of gear. Maybe they should be but we're Marines, not cops. They give us grenades, not flash bangs. Think about this: we can't carry tear gas because it'll get us in trouble for using "chemical weapons". Police use tear gas for riot control all the time. Cops catch and detain - Marines kill, and detain whoever's left. Two different tools for two different jobs. Second - You've missed the point. YES, people HAVE raged over decades. And when they kill someone because of it, it's called MURDER. The crux of the case is what happened in the house clearings. Shooting the guys who jumped out of the truck was a snap decision, akin to cars speeding towards roadblocks that get shot up and then it's found that there was nothing threatening in the car. If you convict the SSgt for THAT, then you have to go after every roadblock/checkpoint shooting that has ever happened (of which there are MANY). Snap calls that fall within ROE are not the issue. The house takedowns are. If the prosecution can't make a murder charge stick (and they know it) I don't see how they're going to make a manslaughter charge stick.

If these are the best charges the prosecution could muster, then SSgt Wuterich has some good odds. The often used example of voluntary manslaughter is catching your wife in bed with another man and killing them both in a fit of uncontrolled anger. It's instantaneous and not thought out for more than a few seconds. Any more than that and it becomes murder. The IED explosion that killed a Marine happen hours before, which is agreed upon by all sides. So the prosecution has to convince a jury that the SSgt seethed for hours before launching into a murderous manslaughterous rage? Don't think so. His career as a Marine is done, but I think he's going to avoid the brig if the prosecution has given up on the murder charge completely.

You're damn right we've got the best adds out there... although the Navy ones with the Godsmack playing were pretty damn good, and better than the stuff we were putting out at the same time. Personally, I think the new ad campaign is great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWZ_zeE18To And by the way, I know the guy who fought the lava monster. And just to tell you how old that ad is, I think he's at Command & Staff College now... no kidding...
