1. Gas is cheaper this week!

3. Did some fall cleaning in the basement. Got rid of lots of stuff (toy box, world globe, toys) from when kids were younger.
4. Went to Apple Butter Festival in Kimmswick MO. Bought some orange blossom honey, soregum, apple butter, and bee pollin? Not sure about that - impulse purchase.

What made me happy this week: 1. Seeing my daughter dressed up in crazy stuff to celebrate spirit week. 2. Chasing a bunch of high school kids around Colonial Williamsburg. (Taking pictures while they participated in a photo/video scavenger hunt.) 3. Preparing...
1. Decorating for Halloween - used to go all out! This year I haven't bought a pumpkin.
2. Make individual bags for treats on Halloween.
3. One year I used my husband's drill to do holes in a pattern of words like "BOO" (saw in Martha Stewart magazine). They looked really cool! My husband was not so happy.
4. In 1st or 2nd grade we each were sent home with a pumpkin seed plant. We planted mine and it grew all the way around the house and one pumpkin got pretty big. We carved it and put it out for halloween and the neighbor kid smashed it.
5. We used to bake pumpkin seeds from the pumpkins we carved.

Here is Missouri, it is usually the heat, a tornado or snow storm that causes power outages. None of that going on right now thankfully. Prayers out to all of those in Sandy's path.

1. I was the youngest so I listened to what my siblings listened to. I used to sneak in my sister's room and listen to her 45's.
2. As I got a little older I had my own record player. Whatever was popular in the 60-70's is what I listened to.
3. I remember at age 16 getting my own 8 track player in my car. Bought it second hand at a yard sale. Played Rolling Stones "Tumbling Dice" is only one I can remember.
4. I didn't favor country music until I was older and it got more modern.
5. Who can forget American Band Stand, Soul Train and other musical shows :)
Childhood Memories, Music - Sunday October 21
Music Memories Things I remember about music as a kid: 1. My mother had some record albums that had Japanese images on them. I was curious and played them once - I expected to hear Japanese but the music was opera style. (I believe it was the music for the opera Madama Butterfly.) 2....
1. Like fresh corn cut off the cob and cooked as cream corn, or BBQ at the fair dipped in butter and salt - yummy.
2. Used to shuck corn as a child and got really grossed out when there was a worm in it.
3. Crop circles
4. Halloween - used to buy dried corn stalk and dress up mailbox with corn stalks and spider webs.
5. I still don't like the silk and can never seem to get all of it off the corn.

1. We did not wear seat belts. The seat belts were only lap belts with big metal buckles that got real hot in summer.
2. When the car was full with all six kids I rode up front between my parents.
3. When I was put in the back seat on long trips I would get car sick.
4. I used to ride with my dad to take my grandmother home every Sunday evening. The ride wasn't long, but I usually fell asleep in the car.

1. I too, was the youngest and observed and part of many pranks. None left a lasting impression.
2. At work we occasionally prank each other. We had an anesthesiologist who was fond of chocolate. When on call we would carefully remove a wrapper of candy and replace it with peas, green bean or other food item and offer it to him as candy.

1. Affton Senior High had grades 10-12. Gaunt was a 9th grade center. We were to last class at Gaunt they closed the building in 1976. After that the 9th graders went to the high school. I graduated in January 1979 because I had enough credits and I wanted to go to work...how stupid?
2. Our mascot was the cougar. I wanted to be the mascot with the cheerleaders, but didn't try out. Small regret. Still remember some of the cheers.
3. Our school had a swimming pool and we had a uniform swim suit. It was a one piece, navy blue over sized suit designed to be unattractive. With that we had to wear white rubber swim caps that pulled your hair.
4. Loved home coming. One year we made a float for some class/club I belonged to. It was fun. Football games, bon fires and dances...good times.
5. I was a wrestling statistician.
6. We had a smoking area outside the cafeteria - Wow how times have changed.
7. Our senior took a bus trip to Florida went to Disney World, boarded a Cruise Ship the Bahamas - too fun!

1. I love Fall! Pumpkins/pie/soup, apple cider, carmel apples.
2. Apple Butter Festival in Kimmswick MO - great times, crafts and biscuits-n-apple butter cooked in a copper kettle. I made candy apples in junior high. Guess I cooked the candy too long and they turned out like hard candy suckers with an apple inside :(
3. Apple and pumpkin picking at Eckerts/Stuckmeyer Farms.
4. Long sleeve shirts, jeans and jackets at the pumpkin patch.

What is normal to me? Hummmm...
1. Waking a 4 a.m. to get ready for work. We start seeing patients at 0530 a.m.
2. When I get home from work on most days I take a short 30" nap before starting chores/dinner, etc.
3. Watch grandson Jackson on most Sundays when both parents are at work.

1. Mackenzie Junior High part of the Affton School District was a separate building for 7-8 grades only. I attended from 1972-4.
2. We had our first experience with changing classes each period with different teachers.
3. I had a wonderful teacher named Ms. Humor she taught earth science. She was a drill sargent in the Army and taught class the same...I still remember quite a bit of what she taught.
4. Our mascot was the cougar. Colors were purple and gold.
5. The school was located too far away to walk to school.
6. We had to wear a uniform for gym class - navy shorts and a navy/white thin stripe top (looked like prison attire) and shower after gym class!! Yuk!
