TypePad HTML Email Debbie, It will be crowded and potentially very hot but it can be soooo fun! On July 4 itself, the metro station on the Mall will be closed so pick another nearby station to use (Metro Center or Federal Center are good. Also Gallery Place.) Bring plenty of water and comfortable shoes and sunscreen. If you like walking and dont mind the distance, go to the FDR Memorial which is shady and a little out of the way and just beautiful. Ive also heard Arlington Cemetery is a nice stop on the 4th but Ive never done it. Look into the Double Decker Tours leaving from Union Station for a hop-on-hop-off transport option to get to a lot of sites in one day. Just be prepared to move slowly because of crowds. And um, the porta potties on the Mall? Will be icky. So BYO handy wipes. Sorry about that. The Capitol Fourth show at the Capitol is always great and you can hear it even if youre far away plus they have big screens set up so you can see a lot as well. And the fireworks? Awesome. Enjoy! Rebekah, who loved the Mall on the 4th before having kids but now looks for smaller events
