I let this idea role around inside my brain for a while and then articulated it. It sort of blew my mind. "No," I scoffed "who does that except billionaires and kept women?" What if - just stick with me here - I didn't just choose one place? What if... Continue reading

There is always an adventure happening over here - you THINK you know what is going on, and then all of a sudden you are in the midst of some new experience. In the midst of preparing a pipe for repair and protection, another pipe (that should have been taken... Continue reading

1) It's impossible to take a picture of your own legs that is even slightly flattering. 2) I don't really care that it isn't flattering because I'm in Hawaii and I couldn't care less what you think about my legs because it is too. flipping. hot. to. care. 3) This... Continue reading

I am, for better or worse, a creature that is suceptible to habit. I like (within my own chaotic nest) to know where things are, how they work, and when they are going to happen. I like my weekend chores to happen on a fairly normal schedule, my daily life... Continue reading

Today is the three month anniversary of my layoff - and it feels like I've done more in these three months than in the past three years. [ed - now 3 months and 8 days] With a daily (sort of) routine coming together and some major projects coming along nicely,... Continue reading

and it's STILL not grouted - but that's actually better because soon (mere days!) there should be a fellow crawling about on the roof which might cause flex in the walls and the 1/16th of an inch grout lines may crack more anyways. HOORAY! Procrastination working for ME!

It has been helpful to write things out - and as things are stabilizing I'm finding I have done less (also the guilt on NOT writing posts is pretty much stupid but I still feel bad and start to avoid it!) but I have thought about making it a daily thing. Turns out that my thinking is best done outside of my brain, and so I either have to talk about it (not very helpful when your daily people are no longer around because of timezones) or write it down. I would say try it! I've got several dead blogs under my belt - mayhaps this one will survive! I'm writing a post RIGHT NOW just because of you. xo lady. Miss you LOTS.
Saturday we took a family road trip to Hilo, a "big city" on the island, along with Kailua-Kona. Hilo is on the wet side of the island, and where U of H, Hilo is located. It's also the location of the best market for food and crafts, according to most... Continue reading

A friend brought ice cream beans over for a play date today. The tough, fluff-filled pods are difficult to get into, but as it seems characteristic of the kids here, this gal needed no adult help. "I've got my own way of doing this," she informed me gravely when I... Continue reading

"I need like, ten more pairs of shorts." I've willfully owned three pairs of shorts in the last 20 years. I've worn them approximately five times in public. I bought 4 pairs of shorts today. I'm freaking myself out, you guys. You guys, this is really wierd. Today in island... Continue reading

After a stormy day, the night was quiet and cool - the first night blankets didn't seem like an exercise in idiocy to me. They still were, I discovered at 3a, but at least they were LESS sweaty and idiotic. I awoke in the morning to the smell of coffee... Continue reading

I feel compelled to mention early on in it's life that this blog is not my fault. I place the niggling brain worm of a idea directly and completely on a friend of mine. "Write" he said. "It'll be good for you" he said. I took a sip of my... Continue reading

This is where I started 12 days ago. This is a window seat on a flight from San Francisco, CA to Kailua-Kona, HI. I took a borrowed backpack as a carryon with enough clothes to get by for a week without laundry, my laptop, and a ukulele. I threw up... Continue reading

You aren't going to like this, I don't think, but wasn't the story that they were frozen in time... sort of sleeping beauty-esque? I feel like in these "you're cursed until you aren't" stories you basically stop aging. So instead of stranger danger, this is a just a dick of a frat dude not wanting to stop the party.
oo la la! I am slightly concerned that he's blowing out a thigh muscle... but perhaps they are his mountie jodhpurs. :P
