One of the first things we noticed when we moved here 40 years ago was how early the daffodils bloomed. Of course, it lulls you into a false feeling that spring is just around the corner when we still have a couple of months to go! And it really doesn’t start getting really warm here until after the 4th of July. That’s ok - just more time to stay inside quilting!

Wow, your daffodils are almost blooming? Ours are up but not nearly ready to pop. The crocus show some promise though, that is if the squirrels and rabbits leave them be. Love your pretty projects!

UFO's
No, not Unidentified Flying Objects - but Unfinished Objects. In the knitting and quilting world, this is a very real thing, as most of us have lots of unfinished projects lying around. Projects that were much loved when they were begun, but have been laid aside when we get bored or the latest ...
Look at those teeny tiny skates! What dexterity. Loved the wedding photos in the last post. Nice to see long term marriages.
A wee bit of crochet
I've finally been taking baby steps in learning to crochet. These teeny ice skate ornaments were favorited on Ravelry by crocheting friend Jan, and as I had a supply of jumbo paperclips I went for it and made several pairs. Hooray, they look like what they are supposed to look like! Not ...
Happy Anniversary! After having survived your trek, I think we can say you're going to make it!
33 years and counting
It's our 33rd anniversary, our longevity as a couple lasting more than half our lives, as C pointed out. We agree that a sense of commitment to get through life's hurdles is a given, but I wanted to think beyond that. If we knew what we know now, 33 years and 1 day ago, what would be our advice ...
I have just discovered your blog and am totally, madly in love! I have been trying to refine my appliqué style and am definitely finding a home here. I will be starting on the Jingle blocks and spending the rest of the time working my way through all your back posts and tips. Thanks for such great content.
Design Wall Monday
Well, not really. I'm still working on my Happy Dance block. This is a preview of where I'm going with this quilt. Basically I am re-making one quilt and adding an applique border from another quilt. It's going to be a BOM in 2015...and it's called Be Happy (my original name was taken, sorry f...
Ill get working on it. Any preferences on color?

Change of Pace
Many years ago, just after I got married, I was into crochet in a big way. One year everyone got intricate doilies for Christmas. Strangely enough I didn't keep many for myself, so few remain. Recently I was reading my favorite blogs and came across a cute little baby blanket crocheted by Vera....
My first thought was just to let it go, but I know in my heart that I would not do that either! And perfectionist that you are, it would always bug you. You did an excellent job of fixing the mistake and you certainly did learn something!
No Quick Fix
There are mistakes that make you feel like a fool, and there are mistakes that make you feel like a fool but teach you something. I’ve now picked out the rows with the wrong yarn dominance on Mara’s sleeve, and I’m back on track with the sleeve knitting. This was a mistake that made me feel li...
Resolutions or no, you've got some pretty ambitious goals for the New Year. I'm glad to see you're knitting for yourself. I think I will be knitting more for myself in the coming year. Of course, I'll still knit for the granddaughters, but the adults will just have to wait. You will love Evenstar. It is a fun knit. Just eat your Wheaties when you get to the beaded border. It takes forever, but is well worth it.
Into the Woulds
Every year at this time, I flirt with the resolutions that afflict so many knitters: 12 sweaters, 52 pairs of socks, 13 whatevers in 2013. But if growing old has taught me anything, it is that by this time next year I won’t have a fraction of those items. It is tempting, as I look at my boxes ...
Having been through a major remodel, I can empathize. But it's so nice when it's done and the memories of all the hassles fade away. Thank goodness for knitting! It makes all those potential boring moments bearable!
Never the Write Time
For almost all of the fall, I’ve been occupied with work on the interior of my house. When I planned the renovations, I considered only the preparation and not the aftermath. In essence, I imagined that by now I’d be living “happily every after,” not wondering where I stuck essentials (most nota...
Happy Anniversary'. I love to hear of long, happy marriages. Hope you're still blogging on your 50th!
Thirty years
December 6th, thirty years of marriage. Where did time go? How did it happen? How do you measure thirty years? More than half my life, three talented children, two Scotty dogs, four moves in two countries, all our parents gone, a grandbaby, retirement (ours!) plans, joys and sadness, ups and do...
I'm sorry that you've had so many losses this year. Each loss is difficult, but having them bunch up like that leaves no room for recovery. And I do believe we can recover. There will always be tha that hole, but we can go on and live a new life as we cope with the absence in that life of one we loved. Blessings on you.
An attempt to fill the void
Personal loss is more than sadness. It's an unfillable void. We can do our best to try, but I'm convinced it's not supposed to get filled up. That hole in our life is there so we don't forget. If you mark it from the one year anniversary of my mom's death, it's been a year of loss, including the...
I cant decide if Im a girly-girl or not. Everyone tells me I am, but I was such a tomboy growing up. I guess my interest in all forms of needlework probably establishes my girly-girl credentials.
Your new improved barn looks great. Youre going to get things fixed up so spiffy you wont want to move! Any thoughts on a time table for selling? How is the real estate market in your area? Still pretty slow around here.
Glad to see things are cooling off a little for you there. A marine layer has moved in this morning and theres quite a bit of fog. It should burn off and give us a couple of nice days. Need to get ready for company this afternoon. One of Bills airplane model building friends that he met on the Internet is stopping by. His wife is into scrap booking so we should have something to talk about. Im fixing some nice Pacific Northwest wild salmon. Yum!!

Back to Our Regularly Scheduled Life . . . sort of
It seems that a lot of my fellow bloggers are falling into the same dilemma that I am. Life has become so busy that it's often hard to find time to blog. But on the other hand, if life weren't so busy, there would be nothing to blog about! Busyness this time came about in the form of two belov...
Were going on Celebrity. We are very excited! Its our first cruise. Someone said we were really jumping off the deep end with a 17 day cruise for our first experience. But I know well love it. Still not sure exactly what cabin well have. We booked through a military travel agency and got a great price on an outside cabin, but the agent said she was going to work very hard to get us a free upgrade to a balcony. Ive recently taken up running, trying to get in shape for a 5k. I think Ill really need that to counteract all of the good food!

This 'n That
I've been in a bit of a blogging slump lately. It's seems that I'm awfully busy, but nothing seems "momentous" enough to blog about. But then I remind myself that I'm blogging to remember my every day life, not to astound my readers (few though they may be) with the fabulously exciting life st...
Thanks! I remember the guide saying that both Almonzo and Laura were both rather short, so he made things to fit them. His woodworking was very impressive! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog.

Back - For A While!
Thanks for all the kind comments regarding my wrist. It is doing a lot better. A combination of the splint, icing and a little knitting vacation seemed to do the trick. The knitting hiatus came about because of a real vacation - we flew back to Missouri for a family reunion. There was lots o...
Cant wait. I need to start planning my knitting. Im on a discussion forum of people who are on the same cruise and theres already another knitter looking to form a group!

Yes, it is an unfortunate name, isnt it? I think this mini-vacation will be one the girls will talk about for a long time!

No way are you going to be 50!! No matter - it's just fine here on the other side of the hill. You'll be welcomed.
Little Works of Art
A Bolt Out of the Ravelry Blue The best place for me to get pattern ideas is the friend's activity tab on Ravelry. I love to look at what my friends are working on and be inspired. A lightening bolt hit me when I first laid eyes on this scarf, designed by my friend, Susan Lawrence. Interweav...
I'm off to download the pattern. I, too, am a woman of a certain age and appreciate the lighter weight. This will be such a nice keepsake for your sister.
Willow Cowl
Pattern: Willow by Amelia Lyon Yarn: Patons Kroy Socks Stripe, 2 skeins Colour: Cyan Needles: US Size 5 Thoughts: Great pattern! Being a woman of a certain age, with a tendency toward overheating, I've avoided knitting cowls, thinking their close fit might inhibit my ability to pull one of...
Good idea about the spool knitting. I may start her on that first. Yes, I sewed the dresses. Its so much fun sewing for little girls after having all boys!

The Hole in the Ocean
Has it really been two weeks since I blogged? Recently someone told me that retirement is like digging a hole in the ocean. As fast as you dig it, stuff flows in and fills it up! Of course, I do have to remind myself that I'm doing the things I want to do. I just want to do so much!! Where t...
I am SO not the Sweater Wizard! My attempts at calculating the sleeve cap on my own were pitiful. Do you know if a SW Mac version is in the works? Im seriously thinking of ordering SW and just running it on Boot Camp, but Id hold off if I knew a Mac version was coming out.
We know were spoiled with the heated seats, but its one of our little concessions to ourselves. Other than that, the car is a pretty basic model. btw - I sent you guys a Christmas card. I know that Johns last name is different from yours, but for the life of me I couldnt remember it. I hope hes not offended by the address. At least I didnt call him Mr. Meske!
Have a wonderful Christmas.

It's All Over But the Zipper
It looks as if I'm finally coming to the end of the road on Ben's Cambridge Jacket. The pieces are sewn together, all edgings done, the zipper has been ordered. This sweater has not been without its issues: Issue #1 - My original intent was to spin the yarn for the sweater. After months ...
