We discussed using oEmbed for Motion but there's already internal infrastructure for doing what oEmbed does at Six Apart. We're not giving up on oEmbed, but there hasn't been much incentive to rewrite the internal stuff that already exists here. We can still turn URLs into video and image embeds (try posting a video here) and that feature is very oEmbed-esque.

There's some notification stuff that happens via TypePad. SMS and IM aren't currently supported. It's something we've thought about, but it's difficult to organize (the providers aren't particularly happy about Twitter using SMS the way it does, and aren't likely to let someone else use SMS the same way without a fuss). IM notification doesn't seem to be all that popular, but if there was enough demand for it we'd certainly look into adding support!
