I spent so much time staring at a 19th century bodice at the V&A in London that my mother (who usually takes the most time in museums) turned and walked out. I was obsessed with the back seam lines.
Slow Art, Nice Clothes.
[Image of the Met's Anglomania exhibit BY-NC-ND 2.0 by testpatern] Mina sent me a list of fashion museums around the world from this Yahoo!Travel article -- I've repurposed it into a wiki page over at the Vintage Pattern Wiki. Know of others? Please add them! Which reminds me, do you all know ...
Not at all on topic: today's Daily Swirl email included a link to Liberty print sneakers. Which are pretty awesome, but still $49 on sale. https://www.swirl.com/
A is for Awesome
Many thanks to Caroline who tipped me off that D&G's Fall 2011 collection was an A-Z of alphabet prints and bright colors. (Also, some dead muppets.) If I can't get some of this fabric, it won't be for lack of trying. (Also, can I pull off high-heeled orange sneakers?) Thanks, Domenico and Ste...
I bought ticking at G Street outside of DC while visiting my cousin (some people buy souvenirs - I come home with fabric and shoes). I'm going to use it for a new ironing board cover. I made the mistake of washing the current cover (to remove cat hair, natch) and it immediately started to shred.

The Upstairs Bathroom
It's done! And I looooooooxoxoxoxoxoooooove it! I am a happy lady with a working bathroom these days. Fixing this bathroom has been a great experience. It is really the first time Andy or I have ever had anything in our house truly remodeled, save for having our front picture windows replace...
The best thing about Lands' End is you can throw 90% of it in the washer and it comes out as good as it went in. So many of my best basics are Lands' End. Plus, the dress is cute and you can wear it with flats, heals or boots. Bonus!
Mad, Plaid, and Dangerous to Know
I am verrry tempted by this Lands' End Canvas plaid shirtdress. I've been looking for plaid fabric to make some shirtdresses, but I haven't seen anything I like that isn't an authentic tartan (at a kajillion dollars a yard). This dress is only $80 (and there are many, many LE promo codes for $...
I usually pink curves - that way I never clip all the way in the raw edge is finished. I'll have to check this book out.
Book Review: 1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts and Tips
Deepika (disclosure: PatternReview.com advertises on this blog) sent me a copy of the new PatternReview book, 1,000 Clever Sewing Shortcuts and Tips: Top-Rated Favorites from Sewing Fans and Master Teachers, and boy, am I happy to have it. I love books of tips because they reinforce two of my...
