Top Ten Movies Featuring Pro Wrestlers
Interests: Some time around the late 80's and early 90's I became a big wrestling fanatic. Around the same time Hulk Hogan was really big. Hogan was in the news, on late night talk shows and he was starring in his own movies, much to the chagrin of, well, pretty much everybody who enjoys movies. Hulk Hogan's movies were awful and the stigma began. Pro Wrestlers can't act and any movie with a wrestler in it is horrible. I'm pretty reasonable and try not to be biased. I'm not about to try and convince you that See No Evil was a great movie and that Kane should deserve an Oscar but anyone who discards the idea of watching a movie just because it has a pro wrestler in it is going to miss out on some good movies. If given the correct role there are several pro wrestlers that can contribute to a good movie. So I thought I would give you a few examples. These are the ten best movies that have a pro wrestler as part of the cast. The pro wrestler isn't usually the star in these movies, but they play a good role. 10. Punisher with Kevin Nash I know, Punisher is considered to be one of the failed comic book movies but I actually didn't think it was all that bad. The set up and the origin stuff at the beginning were pretty slow but once Punisher started to get into the action the movie picked up. Kevin Nash also did a decent job playing the part of a huge Russian thug. 9. Troy with Nathan Jones Nathan Jones is your typical wrestling big man. Jones is about seven feet tall, very muscular and very mean. So Nathan Jones was an easy choice for one of the many soldiers in the movie Troy. 8. X-Men with Tyler Mane I wasn't as enamored with the first X-Men movie as many other people were but it was good. The execution of Sabretooth as Tyler Mane was not perfect but he certainly looked the part. I wasn't happy that he was reduced to grunting, but I don't think that's a fault of Tyler Mane, I'm pretty sure he can talk. 7. Rocky 3 with Hulk Hogan Rocky 3 wasn't a classic like the first one and there wasn't an evil Russian like Rocky 4 but it also wasn't the abomination that is Rocky V. Hulk Hogan wasn't even all that annoying in Rocky 3; at least he wasn't trying to be a nanny. 6. Mummy Returns with The Rock The Rock only has a small appearance in the Mummy Returns and it was good enough to spawn a prequel starring the Rock and launched his own movie career. Of course the Mummy Returns is really about Brendan Frasier in one of his better movies, although not as good as the original. Mummy Returns is a pretty fun action flick. 5. Santa's Slay with Bill Goldberg I'm probably going to get my movie reviewing license checked for this one and maybe even a suspension from Netflix but I loved Santa's Slay starring Bill Goldberg. In Santa's Slay Bill Goldberg is Santa, but in this version of the Santa story Santa is actually a demon. He was forced to give toys to all the boys and girls because he lost a bet against an angel. The 100 years he was forced to give out toys is now over and he's getting revenge by destroying towns. It's a pretty fun little dark comedy and it doesn't hurt that Emilie de Ravin is in it. 4. The Marine starring John Cena This is another movie people will question. The Marine starring John Cena was pretty much ignored at the box office because it had a wrestler in it but so what? It's not like action stars have to be good actors. If that was the case Tom Cruise wouldn't have a job. The truth is John Cena looks like an action star and he's convincing in the action scenes. The acting is not great, especially delivering lines (although his facial expressions are good) but he only has to act for like 10 minutes. Plus Robert Patrick is an awesome villain; he's worth the price of admission alone. 3. Spiderman with Randy Savage Randy Savage only had a small cameo in Spiderman during the scene where Spiderman wrestles to make a little money. The Spiderman movie was a great movie though. I still don't like the horrible casting of Mary Jane but other than that Spiderman is a fun action packed movie and it started the new comic book movie craze. 2. The Princess Bride with Andre the Giant Who could ever forget the lovable giant from the Princess Bride? The Princess Bride was a great and imaginative adventure. It had pirates, giants, duels, poison and it even had Kevin from the Wonder Years and Colombo! Andre the Giant himself was one of the most likable characters in the movie. He wasn't a great actor but that actually made him funnier. No more rhymes I mean it! Anybody want a peanut? 1. Predator with Jesse Ventura Forget about Terminator, Predator is Arnold Schwarzenegger's best film and the Predator would tear that T-1000 to shreds, either that or laugh at him and then self destruct. I love Predator because it was like an action version of a horror movie. You got this strange creature slowly killing off everyone one by one until there is only one guy left and he survives. Except this horror movie has lots and lots of guns and explosions. Also forget about "I'll be back" or "Hasta la vista baby", it was the words that Arnie mumbled in Predator that to this day is one of my mottos. "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
