I can wear two hats (more than two, but that's a different story) I can work, fight, rally for progressives and progressive issues but when push come to shove I'll do the same for the Democrat in the race, Blue Dog or whatever. After that, I switch hats again to hold their feet to the fire. What's so complicated?

Since I moved to Tucson, this is the first time TUSD Board presented to the public just one finalist. Unlike other organizations or companies, they didn't have to, by statue. This situation made me uncomfortable enough to contact Board members. Mark Stageman, regardless of what he studies or what he writes, got it right this time. I don't always agree with his stands, but I fully support both his "No" votes.

For the last several months I was shocked to find out that 1. the $17 million budget deficit came out as a surprise 2. nothing has been done to save the schools, even some of them were on the chopping block last year too and 3. nobody seems to know how the district will make up for the rest of the deficit. I think it's safe to assume that another wave of school closures will hit our community soon. The "outside the box" ideas stated in the article and the comments (I'm sure there are others too) can be implemented only if we -the community- get together and find ways to DO IT. It's my understanding that some of the commentators know each other (I do too) and some don't. I want to propose a get-together sponsored by Blog for Arizona and Drinking Liberally (which I co-host on a weekly basis along with Mike Bryan, the owner of this blog). The advantage of doing this is our large audience: our weekly email goes to over 300 subscribers and there are over 200 fans of our facebook group. If interested, contact me at mariana@livingliberallytucson.org.

".. it is because our wealthier retiree made good money, which enabled him to buy high quality health care, and he worked in an office, which didn't cause his body to break down from manual labor" That's correct, but I also want to bring up another aspect: the ability to perform physically demanding work. Lifting, repetitive motions, even standing for eight hours can become impossible for some. Physical strength, along with precision, vision, attention, coordination, etc diminish with age, that's a fact of life. What happens when one cannot perform anymore? From a different prospective: as a society, what do we gain from poor performance in the workplace? Who's paying for the lack of efficiency, accuracy? Who's paying for the further deterioration of our bodies? I'm talking strictly $$ here.

Many signs belonging to Democratic candidates were stolen over election night, including the signs in my own yard. I am aware of a candidate in a different district who's signs disappeared from her own yard. A candidate from yet another district reported about 50 signs either stolen or vandalized. It looks like a coordinated effort to "clean up".

Arizona Eagletarian, you -of all people- should remember this episode: "I'm not going to let this freaking governor push me around. This is pure, stupid, stubborn Jan Brewer," Antenori told the Arizona Capitol Times about a year ago in regard to the Governor's push to impeach the Chair of the redistricting committee. Later, he voted for it anyway.

For those in favor of any kind of tort reform: watch "Hot Coffee". Hint: you may change your mind.

Regardless of our likes or dislikes, a candidate doesn't necessarily have to live in the Congressional District he/she will represent if elected.

On 'guns on campus' topic: Several studies show that the majority of people reach emotional maturity after the age of 22. Before that age, fully intellectually developed young adults commit impulsive acts (peer pressure is a factor too). Binge drinking, petty crimes of all kinds, suicide, etc occur against one's best judgment, but DO occur mostly in that very window of time we call college years. There is another problem: in Arizona, one must be 18 to own a gun but 21 to purchase a gun or ammunition. So, only a few would be able to pack on campus since the majority of students are 17-21.

I don't have access to official documents but a simple Google search reveals enough speeches, articles, interviews, etc to confirm the date as accurate. Here is an example http://thepublicsquared.com/post/neil-g-giuliano

1)The cost of obesity derived health issues (diabetes, heart problems, etc) is off the charts. Look up the numbers! 2) National security: the military has trouble recruiting, among the most important reasons being the lack of physical fitness and basic academic skills. Check the Pentagon's reports! 3) Studies show that healthy students learn better and daily physical activity in school improves academic achievement. Look up the research!

I got one last week, no mention of who paid for it. Weird gets weirder. Second question: "Who is your first preference for the LD30 House 1)Gowen 2)Dalessandro 3)Vogt" I pressed 2. Third question: "Who is your second choice for the LD30 House 1)Dalessandro 2)Vogt. Does it make any sense?
