Purchase Contract Signed!
Wohoo!!! So early on Friday morning I posted my list of house hunting frustrations. By Friday afternoon I was actually well on the way to having signed and confirmed a contract on the house (above) which we viewed last Sunday. I couldn't mention it in the comments because I still had to talk ...

My favourite English cake to make is Victoria Sponge Cake
My favourite Swedish cakes to make has to be Kanel Bullar. Back in the summer my Swedish neighbour came to my house and did a baking day with me teaching me how to make Kanel Bullar the old fashioned way and Kola Kakor lovely carmael biscuits that my boys devoured.
Have a great weekend

Hembakat är Bäst Give Away
What you see above is the book that “everybody” is talking about these days. The buzz is about IKEA’s baking book “Hembakat är bäst” (“Home baked is best”) and the way the recipes are depicted with the ingredients all nicely lined up. I received a copy in the mail and the another one at t...

Allt i Hemmet
Over a year and a half ago Swedish interiors magazine Allt i Hemmet came and did a story on our house. Now it’s on local newsstands. A LOT has changed since then. Such as the closet doors, the bedroom wall, the craft corner, the length AND color of my hair and my marital status. I...

The End
Don’t worry, it’s not the end of the blog. It is the end of Martin and I though. We have made the mutual decision to separate. After almost 20 years of marriage (October 5th) we just aren’t on the same page any more. As sad as this is I’d like to point out that we are still really good friend...

Skippy Lids
One of the most used items in our garage workshop is a Skippy lid. Well, it’s not actually A single lid but a whole bunch of them. We’ve stopped saving the jars but the lids we treasure. Here’s how we use them. For touch up painting. Screwed under the shelf above the worktop with jars ...

Money Bunting
Wille’s grandma, my mother in law Barbro, was so sweet and wanted to reward Wille for his awesome grades when graduating from "högstadiet" (~junior high) and sent some money. She asked if I could present it to him in a neat way and not just hand over the cash. So I did. Any Swedes out ther...

365 Day 232-238
We finally taste the first of our tomato crop. We each got a tiny one. The verdict.; It tastes like tomato. Nothing extra ordinary but still kind of neat because it’s home grown. A man on a mission. As soon as I’m outside Bonus starts bugging me and wants to be petted and combed. We have a...

Panduro Concrete Challenge 3
So here's the second day of Concrete Week and submission #3 to the Panduro Concrete Challenge. Yesterday was about the outdoors but I wanted to make something for inside too. I prefer making stuff that has a use and a purpose rather than just being decorative and I really needed a bookend. Her...

Hej Valarie
This farmers market with it's produce and BREAD looks wonderful. How right you are about eating local and reducing our carbon footprint, out here in the country in Sweden I think it is something, that the locals are very good at doing naturally living off the land, berries, strawberries, mushrooms, fish, alg...Which reminds me I really must start making my own bread again. The cans with the colorful blooms in are wonderful and how thoughtful of you to go delivering to friends...Hope you have a great week ahead!

Storing Extra Blankets and Pillows
I got an e-mail a while ago where I was asked where I store extra blankets and pillows. Answer: Here! This is one of the top cabinets in Wille's room and they're not the easiest to get into. You need to step on Wille's bed first and then onto his desk and then you're in. A mess is what you'...

Great idea...I started to make my own bread in Sweden and have got out of the habit, because I was finding I made 2 loaves at a time and didn't have freezer then and it was going off soo quick. I will defo try these bread bags. Such a good idea and get bake to basics and bake bread lol! What recipe do you use?
Someone said to me Elizabeth David's but I have never been able to find it.

Very simple bread bags.
In the spirit of my small change for last month (trying to replace all plastic bags in our house) I made these very simple and extraordinarily cheap bags to store my homemade bread in. They are double layered and totally reversible and so far they seem to be working very well. They are mad...

Cleaning a Bottle with Rice
Mom had this bottle filled with some old vinegar and after emptying it out there was still some gunk on the interior walls that would't come out. I heard about this method of using rice somewhere ( Martha?) and decided to try it out. All you need to do is to pour in a couple of table spoon...

Up In Smoke
Ashes, Ashes, we all fall down. Or so the nursery rhyme says. It's more like "No Planes Fly !". We just couldn't get over the fact that a volcano on a small little country like Iceland could stop a large portion of the planet from traveling. As I write this, planes have been grounded for day...
