I'm Amy, mother to three little girls. I was an editor for 10 years, and now I stay home with the kids, making pots and other things in those rare spare moments. Things I love: family, ceramics, coffee, "Mad Men," sewing, tiki drinks, gardening, the beach, mid-century modernism, Bill Murray, music, peacock blue, humor, peanut butter, architecture, magazines, design, Wes Anderson, books, salt+sweet ...

You look great, Beki! I don't think I could do this many days -- too many days of doing yardwork lately. :)
what I wore
Y'all, I suck at this!! I almost didn't go through with it. Not only am I doing a sucky job getting photos of my outfits, I'm having a hard time seeing myself in these sucky photos. Of course, seeing myself and accepting myself is why I'm participating. I'm still hanging on to a good 20 lbs ...
These are great! I especially love the flower on the tropical looking background print.
still stitching
I'm still here, still stitching away. A little bit here and there during those rare moments when I'm not baby tending. I have to remind myself to use that time for stitching instead of the laundry. When I use all my time for laundry and dishes it makes me grumpy. Oh, but things are going ...
Steve Martin can do anything! What am I listening to? Um, very different things. :) At the moment, Feist, AWOLnation and M83.
Recap #5 - good times
Tim and I have been to ONE concert in the last year. One. And it was fantastic. Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. What a great show. Steve Martin has always been a favorite of ours. In 6th grade I had a 45 of King Tut. My entire knowledge of his current banjo repatoire was acqui...
Happy 21 to Lindsay! Lovely post, mama.
blogging mom fail
I blog my kids' birthdays. Every year. However, this September, when Lindsay turned 21, I didn't blog about it. There were a number of reasons. First - she's an adult now and there are privacy issues when your child is grown and the decisions about what is shared are exclusively hers. Second, I ...
The new colors look great! Do you already have some gingham? It wouldn't be hard to drape some over the current ones and check it out.
checking rooms off the list
And it is yellow. I'd say the yellow is a little more, well, yellow than these photos, but it's pretty close - it's a pale lovely yellow (that mantle wall was RED). Now we move on to hanging art and casting a painting eye at the kitchen walls and the guest bedroom. Also, this room needs new...
That's a lot of time in the hospital! I hope she can get home soon.
Recap #4 - health
One of the things very much on our minds during the past several months has been health, primarily that of Tim's mom, Becky. On August 23rd she had heart valve replacement surgery. Her aortic valve was the worst that the surgeon had ever seen. They also replaced part of her ascending aorta whi...
Love! Those would definitely be full of seashells around here.
I almost forgot
I have no painting photos today (I know you're sad). However, my living room is 3/4 yellow. I feel much less accomplished today even though I did more than yesterday. The living room is twice as big as the family room and had lots of stuff to move away from walls. Tomorrow it will be finished. ...
What fun! We have attempted to get tour tickets at the Capitol and at the White House when we've been in town visiting, but it has never worked out. I'm sure we'd have baby meltdowns, too. :)
The Capitol: fancy clothes and sundae bars
We're moving along at about half-strength around here. One by one the girls are dropping to the same cold as it moves through each of them. This morning, Mary was the victim. Unfortunately hers is a mix of a migraine and the cold. So I'm chained to the sofa while we work through the worst of the...
Yeah, those first weeks don't have a lot of puttering or stay-at-home giddiness. :) I remember being very proud of myself for being able to bend over to fill the dog's water bowl while carrying the baby at the same time. And that was my big accomplishment for the day! Once the sleep starts coming back, things get easier. You'll get there!
hello again
Well, gees-I definitely didn't plan on abandoning this blog for weeks and weeks but it's just one of those things that happen. I'm sure if you read this blog, you read my other blog and have heard that I had my baby. Actually, I gave birth almost seven weeks ago. Yeah, I am slow like that. Be...
I have totally been eying those shoes in the Garnet Hill catalog! I'm hoping they go on sale. I'm stalking them.
some nice things I must mention
photo from The Black Apple I have been waiting to buy these cards from Miss Emily for a bit now and am so pleased to have them in my hands. I love boxed cards, especially the assorted kind with pre-printed sentiments. There was a time years ago that I wouldn't use these lovely cards (or special...
I love how it turned out! So lovely.
whole lotta quilt
This quilt has been in use for a few weeks now, so it is high time I blogged about it. I've said lots already about this, based on the one from Lotta's Handmade Living. It was a heavy beast to quilt, as I suspected it would be, so I just went down the wonky horizontal lines route which led to ...
It looks beautiful!
Swoon!
It's finished! The pattern is Swoon by Camille Roskelley and I knew when I saw the large stars that it would be perfect for Jane. I wanted something young and fresh that would stand the test of time and I think this quilt fits the bill. And I don't think the photos do it justice. Jane helped m...
When I don't blog, it's mainly because Facebook and Twitter have made me lazy. :) But I do like the memory-keeping aspects of maintaining a blog, and I still enjoy reading others' blogs, like yours. I've been considering going on a social-media fast, and only blogging for a while!
blog on
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. It all started when I finally succumbed to Twitter and began dabbling in Instagram. Facebook has been there for a while, but I lost interest in that long ago. With all these social media options it seems that blogging has fallen off as the preferred me...
Aw, your and Chris's posts are making me cry this morning. At least I already have the tissues out for this silly cold. :) Your take on blogging is spot on.
Thank you again for all the work you did on this quilt -- I'm honored to have been a part of it!
blogs, social networks, and good old fashioned quilting bees
There's been a lot of talk lately in my online social circle (and I'm sure in many others) about blogs, the act of blogging, and their relationship to all of the other social networking options that have sprung up in the last few years. I've had some friends declare that blogging is dead and t...
I have never heard of this virtual coffee thing -- will have to check it out. I hope these last few weeks aren't so miserable, or at least go quickly. It seems like the end is harder on your body after you've already done this whole baby thing before. But what a cozy fall you will have with your new little one!
virtual coffee
For those of you who may not be familiar with Virtual Coffee, it’s something started by Amy at Lucky #13. Every Tuesday is Virtual Coffee, a time to share what’s on our mind over a cup of coffee, as if we were meeting for coffee for real. I’ve read her weekly contribution for many, many week...
Oh, he's so sweet. Congratulations, little family!
he's here
Asa James Thompson born Tuesday September 13, 2011 at 12:21pm 8lbs 7oz and 20.5 inches long Since then the days have been filled with shock, joy, pain, wonder, happiness and a lot of love. The past five days have been so amazing, can't imagine life without him now. Back soon.
I usually just leave my lavender alone and then cut off the dead parts in the spring. I'm not an expert though. :) Mine does have a bit of mulch though, to protect it in the winter.
Love that feather bangle!

snack break #15
Since my children are on snack break number fifteen of the day, I figured I slip over here to share a few things with all of you while they're stuffing their faces with cheese, grapes and nutella toast. *If you sneak a peek at my top right sidebar, you'll see a new little button--I have been no...
