I invite you to follow me here: my Tumbler page It's pretty obvious for the (possibly 3?) people that follow this blog that I've been horribly negligent of it lately. Also, lately, I've been trying to think of ways that I can save time (or better manage it). I've already made a few changes. I'm laying off Word with Friends (I will finish my current games) and I'm going to do the same with Draw Something very shortly. I'm DVRing a show I love that's on once a week at 11 p.m. and I'm skipping any others that are on... Continue reading

My unsatiable appetite for creating in my art (formerly "scrap") room continues raging on. (I do want to mention that just because I'm now calling my "scrap" room an "art" room doesn't imply at all that I'm not scrapping anymore. I'm just doing "more" than scrapping!) Having said that, I must admit that I haven't scrapped much this year. But I want to! I have several photos sitting on/near my desk - out of the way of flying inks and paints - waiting for my attention. And I'm participating in True Scrap 3 this weekend and expect to be overflowing... At least, I feel like one. I have greatly neglected my blog and I'd said that I was going to blog more often. Well, there's only so many hours in the day, so many days in the week, right? After I've done the essentials around here (i.e. granddaughter care, personal quiet time, managing committments, meal planning/prep, exercise - most of the time - eating, sleeping, personal grooming, etc.), after all that, I sit down to take one of the several online classes I'm in and/or to hideaway in my art room to do "homework" and whatever else we artists like... I'm so happy that it's a glorious sunny day! My heart just needed it today. I'm expecting a granddaughter or two to show up any minute now, too, so happy times are ahead! :) But I wanted to take a minute to share what I've been working on lately. I think I've mentioned that I'm taking a fabulous art journaling class. It's called 30 Days in Your Journal. Wow. If you have any interest in that realm at all, I can highly recommend this class. It's been everything I've needed to get comfortable experimenting with different medium and techniques because... Continue reading

We're heading up to State College today to visit Chris's sister and her husband. I'm mostly packed. But just wanted to take a minute to share what I've been working on lately. I've still been able to get in my art room most every day. The urge to purge is getting stronger and stronger. Not because I hate what I have. But because I have SO much and it makes it so much easier to create when you have LESS to choose from - especially when you love everything you have. And, right now, I don't LOVE everything I have.... Continue reading

It's been another deliciously quiet week. I've also still been under the weather, but it hasn't been enough to keep from getting in my craft room every day. Yay! Today I just want to share what I've been doing. First up, I mentioned in my last post that I had started Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's "30 Days in Your Art Journal" class. And, can I say? Finally, FINALLY, this class makes me feel like an artist! :) Julie's teaching style is very casual and laid back (and she cracks me up a LOT) and just SO excellent. I really feel like... Sunshine. A free day ahead of me. What could be a better thing to wake up to? I don't know, because that really rings my chimes. I started it off (after a day of juice fasting yesterday) with my beloved a.m. coffee and quiet time - prayer, bible reading and bible study. I sooooo love it when I don't have to rush and today I could really take my time. I'm preparing right now to teach our ladies bible study group from church on the 15th. We've studied various books over the years, but right now we're studying THE book... Continue reading

Okay, I think I'm finally caught up - at least with all the *important* stuff! Whew! An unbelieveably busy holiday season almost immediately followed by a 9-day trip to AZ makes for LOTS of back-paddling, running around and mayhem in general. I'm sort of in shell-shock that it's the 24th already! There's SO much going on, so much to write about, so much I'm doing. But rather than bore you with all the gorry details, I'm going to borrow from my friend, Debra Blakely, and do a "Ten on Tuesday" list. Ten things (yes, I'm limiting it to 10, but... Continue reading

Welcome to my blog for our final blog hop for our 2011 word assignments from the One Little Word class at Big Picture Scrapbooking. Maybe you've been wondering what this has been all about. Then read my post and follow the hop and you'll get a great idea of how it works. And, NOW is a great time to choose YOUR "one little word" to concentrate on for 2012 - and then I highly recommend the class given by Ali Edwards, the founder of "One Little Word". It will keep you thinking about your word all year long as well... Continue reading

I thought this would be a great way to share my December Daily Album. If you want to see it full screen, you can click on the lower right corner of the screen above and then click on the album title and it will take you to the web album. From there, you can select (top left, under the album title) slideshow. You can also view the pages individually at that site. Enjoy! I want to also mention that besides using Ali Edwards' templates and overlays for my album, I also used an older digital kit from Little Dreamer Designs... Continue reading

Whew! Was that Christmas that just flew by yesterday? Even though I thought I was pretty well prepared, I still managed to spend the last few days before Sunday in a whirlwind of activities and last minute preparations. I just cant seem to escape it - guess its all part of what we call Christmas. And yesterday was a tad exhausting, but absolutely wonderful and full of joy and sweet memories at the same time. Hubs and I got up and had a quick coffee before driving to my sons (a mere 8 miles) to get there in time for the girls Christmas morning celebration. SO fun! Then we headed out around 10:30 for church (a much-needed oasis in the midst of all the mayhem), then home to Skype my family before the same son and family arrived HERE for dinner and to open our gifts/stockings for all of them. Then we Skyped with our other son in AZ and then more family time until everyone headed home at around 8 p.m. Finally, it was time for our final Christmas movie - Its a Wonderful Life after which we collapsed into bed! We still have a few holiday gatherings planned, but my racing is over and Im in total chill mode. Im so glad that I had the realization early on this season that Christmas is NOT just the one day. The celebration of Jesus birth is something that brings me joy continuously and I am always aware of the many many blessings God pours out on and around me, His forgiveness and grace and mercy abounding among them. I so enjoyed the whole season of Christmas this year, rather than thinking of it in terms of a one day event. Much better. I hope you, too, were blessed abundantly with His many riches and continue to enjoy them in the coming new year! Jan Jan Barlow

I'm so sorry, my poor little blog, for neglecting you for the whole month! This photo pretty much explains how my life has been this month: A whirlwind, I tell you! A whirlwind! I hereby PROMISE you that I will be back next year in full force. Being that next year is a mere 9 days away, it's not so bad. Among other things, I will be participating in the January One Little Word Blog Hop which will be a final review of my word for 2011 (focus) and an announcement of my NEW One Little Word for 2012. I'm... Continue reading

Ahhh, one of my all-time favorite things to do is walk in the woods - thats what Im aiming to do again once my hip is totally recuperated. (Im trying to work out the limp at this point...) But, actually, I can go for a little walk in the woods any time I want as theres a wooded path just feet from my front door! That was one of the things we had in mind when we bought this land. Did I see you mention one time that you have relatives in PA? Where are they? I would LOVE to meet you! ;) Blessings... Jan Barlow

Welcome back to my blog for the November assignment "show and tell" for One Little Word. I daresay, it may be a little late to join in this project at this point of 2011. But - NOW would be a GREAT time to start thinking about a word to embrace (or be challenged by) for 2012. I have a few I'm considering. If you're new to One Little Word, check out Ali Edwards' blog here. She originated the idea and also teaches the class that has inspired these monthly blog hops. She is planning on doing another class for 2012... Continue reading

We've had nothing but glorious sunshine for the past week now - and it's forcasted for at least days into the future. I. love. it. so! I was a little concerned when we were having tons of rain and then, gasp!, SNOW that I wasn't going to be able to test out my new hip on my driveway (along with my new sneakers). But, my worries (as usual) were all for nought, because I've been able to get out most everyday for at least a little "pushing through". I call it pushing through because that's what it feels like so... Continue reading

Welcome to my blog and the October assignment review for One Little Word. We're doin' a blog hop today! At the end of this post, you'll find lots of links - to our next hopper and to all hop participants. If you've never heard of One Little Word before, I encourage you to check it out. This has been a very cool experience, very thought-provoking and, might I add, somewhat life changing! :) NOW is a great time to be thinking about which ONE word you'd like to focus on for 2012. I'm sure Ali Edwards, the creator of this... Continue reading

Snow! In Pennsylvania! In October! We had the girls overnight Friday and it started snowing Saturday morning as we sat around the dining room table coloring and "sticker-ing" and eating breakfast. It started off pretty sparse, but quickly turned to big, fluffy snow flakes and it wasn't long til the girls were hanging out the sliding door scooping snow off the deck and eating it. (Hey, I'm the grandma - we can do that!) I think Maggie was especially amazed because, being that she's only two, I doubt that she really remembers the snow from last year. When Chris got... I'm in denial. It can't possibly be the last week in October. Okay, I guess technically it really isn't because there's two lonely little days that are still officially in October next week. But still. I just can't grasp that it will soon be November and that C-word holiday will be upon us soon. Ugh. So - let's change the subject! :) Well, first of all (hmmm, maybe I'm not changing the subject so much...) I got an early C-word present. Chris got his already (his golf passes for 2012 which had to be purchased now, I guess). So I... Continue reading

Okay! Enough with the hip replacement, already. I'm so ready to move on. And I have. But I will share all the happy happy news from my ortho-doc appointment this past week. And then the hip saga will be over. I went in to my dr. appointment with my little list of stuff I was asking if I could either STOP or START. And here's how it went down: Surgical Stockings I hate these. I'm sick of them. They've been annoying in a variety of ways, but the worst is that every time I take them off, I must have... I knew you would understand, Deb! :) Blessings, Jan Jan Barlow
Tomorrow, my new right hip will be six weeks old! Can we say, "awwwww"? While this journey has gone amazing well and the blessings have been abundant, I have to say I'm SO ready to get back to my regular life! No more crutches! No more walker! No more hospital bed! No more electric chair (um, that would be my auto-recliner), no more of those *&$#@*! surgical stockings, no more ice bags, no more coumadin and pro-times (ugh, my poor pin-cushion of an arm), no more being driven everywhere. No more! I'm OVER it all! :D Okay. Ahem. Just a... Continue reading

So many sweet, simple pleasures this week - and photos to show it! - it was hard to pick just one. (Yes, I finally couldn't take using the point-and-shoot anymore and my trusty DSLR is now by my side...) But, I managed to pick just one photo that captured a fun, funny and simple moment. A moment that made me smile and made me glad my camera was right at hand. And - big surprise - it again features our darling granddaughters. We're finally having a streak of absolutely gorgeous weather here in central PA so we decided that this... Continue reading
