This is my first year teaching Special Education in an integrated co-taught math classroom. The general education teacher has been teaching for 25 years and is what I would consider an "expert" educator. Collaboration has been difficult due to the fact that I am new to the curriculum and teaching. We model parallel teaching, station teaching, and one teach - one assist. I think until both teachers know the curriculum thoroughly and how to present it, it is difficult to really share the teaching. I have learned so much and I know next year our collaboration will improve as well as our co-teach model. I never considered our collaboration being a model for student collaboration. I would like to do a lot more small group work and see student collaboration skills increase.
