The Who/Was books series from publisher Penguin/Random House have taken their show on the road with a new TV series "The Who Was? Show" on Netflix! The series, just like the books, takes a fun approach to biographies of famous people in history and popular culture. The show takes it one step further though creating a hip, variety style educational show much like "The Electric Company" with some elements of the old late 60's-70's TV show "Laugh In" (dancing and people talking through different window frames) and some "Monty Python" comedy feels thrown in. Who Was Julius Caesar? by Nico... Continue reading

Have your toddlers and young kids experienced the Sago Mini world of apps yet? I love their cast of characters and safe game play. I don't know if many of you know but I spent over seven years as a designer and creative director in an interactive agency in late 90's - early 2000's. My specialty was designing kids games (in Flash back in the day). I worked on the Mattel account for five years as well as other large kids brands. Sago Mini does such a great job with their game play for young kids to explore that it... Continue reading

As with all Toca Boca games there are no in app purchases and I love that it's always a place to uncover and discover things all around with lots of fun hidden surprises. I am such a huge sticker fan and I'm happy to have passed on that love to my daughter. I mean, who would love rainbows, balloons and bears? Mrs. Grossman's is our favorite -- for my own childhood memories alone. It's so cool to see how they have been expanding beyond their sticker sheets to create new ways to use stickers. A huge thank you to Mrs. Grossman's for sending us these goodies to try out. The Sticker Kaleidoscope Books ($16.95 each) are so fun. Kids (or kids at heart) can create sticker mandalas that are works of art. You... Continue reading

Chloe and I are pretty obsessed with all things Japanese. We discovered Gudetama last year while browsing in the Kinokuniya Bookstore in Japantown. Gudetama is a Sanrio creation but unlike Hello Kitty or Chocolate that are just there to be cute, Gudetama adds that extra dose of humor because he's just so darn lazy! In Japanese, "gude gude" means lazy and "tama" a short form for "tamago" means egg. Life is never easy for Gudetama but it's much cozier with a bacon blanket. Recently out from Penguin Workshop are two new Gudetama books: Gudetama's Guide to Life ($8.99, text by... Continue reading

Do you love stickers as much as I do? As a planner addict, I can't seem to get enough of them. When I found out that there was Mrs. Grossman's Sticker Club, I signed up right away. Mrs. Grossman's stickers bring back special childhood 80's memories for me. I feel like I'm 9 again and deciding which sticker to cut off the large rolls at the stationery store where I grew up in Alameda, CA. Her bears, hearts and rainbows are my absolute favorite. I've passed on the sticker loving addition to my own 9 year old and we share... Continue reading
