Well, I think there's an intermediate step you skipped over in your argument -- I think you also have to acknowledge (according to Kant's definition of enlightenment) that a large percentage of twitter noobs are unenlightened (non-enlightened? -- whatever ;)
So perhaps the twitter noob community not only has no taste -- it also has no enlightenment (see also http://news.linked.in/1357/bias-quality-of-search-results-depends-most-of-all-on-the-user-community-of-users-making-the-evaluations ) ... and I would also argue that perhaps that is a characteristic also shared by some so-called journalists (as you have very well explicated) -- or whatever you might call such people who write stuff.... I really had to LOL over Gladwell not being able to define the term "social media" -- which means he spent an entire week writing an article about a topic that he did not even have the vaguest grasp of.
